Not as hardore as Mezmerize, but still catchy. Vicinity of Obscenity is pure awesome baked in a banana terracota pie.
Not as hard as the other albums but still great Attack: 5/5 Dreaming: 4.5/5 Kill rock and roll: 5/5 love the intro but sorta disappointed they didn't build on to that, but oh well still good Hypnotize: 5/5 second best on album Stealing society: 4.5/5 Tentative: 5/5 fourth best on album love the "bombs" phrase at the end U-fig: 4/5 Holy mountains: 4/5 Vicinity of obscenity:3.5/5 worst song but I still find a way to like it somehow She's like heroin: 5/5 Lonely day: 5/5 second best Soldier side 6/5 best song on album Overall: 5/5 good album, a little different sound than the earlier albums. It's better if you listen to it with it's twin album, mesmerize. Still disappointed they didn't capitalize on kill rock and roll's intro.
SOAD is awesome & let's face it, they've changed. Most bands undergo a bad change, but SOAD did a good one. I like this album, and I recommend it to everyone.
He's a tool
this is alot better than the toxicity and mezmerize crap I LOVE IT
This album is incredable from the first song to the last! Intense, thought out lyrics, rippin guitar riffs, sik drums, this CD has it and more.
look, they just put in pop because pop is such a wide vague genre. truth be told i think system has their own sound, their own genre. who cares what genre they put it under as long as i can buy it!!!!
First off, I love how Mesmerize begins with a Soldier Side Intro, and this album ends with the actual Soldier Side song. I rate it four stars because to me it feels like System of a Down had put all of their best ideas toward Mesmerize, leaving Hypnotize feeling a little stale. Hypnotize does have very good songs, such as Lonely Day, Soldier Side, and Hypnotize, but this album is missing the really exceptional hits that made albums like Toxicity and Mezmerize really amazing. Overall, this album is still great and stays true to the unique sound that S.O.A.D has to offer.
Love it love it love it
This is a great album. All we need is SOAD to get back together! That reunion was be HUGE!
I think they have done it all and this album had nothing to prove and it still makes them look awesome
Why is no one writing reviews anymore?!? This is an amazing album and SOAD's last album. Daron doesnt sound bad while he's singing next to Serj so stop b**ching about the old SOAD this is an amazing album buy all of it. The best songs are Soldier Side, Dreaming, and Hypnotize, but they all rock no bad songs on the whole album i dont like jet pilot on toxicity, pictures on steal this album, or old school hollywood on mezmerize but every song is great on this album.
great album but not pop!!! are you kidding me with this crap!?
This is a good album. The harmonies that this band can produce are far superior to most of the dribble you hear on the radio. It's obvious that SOAD is now a 2 lead singer deal, instead of Serj singing everything. They flip flop between lead and harmony flawlessly. Dreaming is the best song. Look out for the 3-harmony in Kill rock n roll
I Like banana Terra-Cotta Pie wrrrrrr This is awesome
Now I think that is a fantastic album. But let me just cear up the pop thing so you idiots will just shut up. The band has stated more than once that not only do they NOT consider themselves rock or metal, they don't want to be put in a spicific catagory. Serj has actually said, and I quote "As far as arrangement and everything,(our music) is pretty much pop. To me,System of a Down isn't a progressive band.[...] But it's not a typical pop project, obviously. We definetly pay attention to make sure that it's not something someone's heard before." That is verbatum with the Wikipedia article on SOAD. LOOK IT UP.
First of all... the song's lyrics are that "such a lonely day" is reflecting his whole life and how he felt at that time. Maybe you should look deeper into the meanings of songs, or at least look it up.
This album is awesome! Don't hesitate to buy it! But iTunes messed up and called this pop. If you want "pop" go listen to justin beiber
Attack 8/10- Very fast paced and intense. A great way to start the album Dreaming 7/10- Kind of generic, it doesn't really offer anything special but it's still good Kill Rock n Roll 7/10- The song is about running over a rabbit so it's kinda dumb in that sense but it's actually quite enjoyable Hypnotize 8/10- The first few times through it's very good but after awhile it gets a little bit repetitive Stealing Society 8/10- The first half is somewhat boring but the last half is really fun Tentative 8.5/10- It's on the slower side but it's very emotional and intense which makes it a stand out track U-Fig 7.5/10- I can't really explain it but I just enjoy listening to this song. It's fast with some slower parts. Holy Mountains 10/10- This is an amazing song, it's heavy, it has strong lyrics, and it builds tension throughout the song until it's awesome climax. Vicinity Of Obscenity 8.5/10- It's such a weird song that makes no sense but it just so energetic and fun She's Like Heroin 6/10- This is another weird song but not in a good way. I don't know I just cant seem to learn to like it Lonely Day 5.5/10- I do like the way the song builds on itself and I don't mind that it's slow but one of the problems is that the lyrics are just so self absorbed and dumb. The main problem however is that Serj only sings back-up vocals. Now I get that their trying to get the other guy in there more and I'm fine with that because I don't hate the guys voice and he sounds good when harmonizing but honestly let Serj take care of most of the vocals. Soldiers Side 10/10- Overall just a great song. It's emotional and its still very heavy I defiantly recommend the song
System Of A Down is a great new metal band. But this is my least favorite SOAD album. The only good songs are Attack, Hypnotize and Lonely Day.
Some of the songs are just great.
Man at 1st I didn't lik system of a down cuz I thought they were a bunch of freaks but now i lik em but wut wrong wit iTunes! I mean lik how is this pop!
This whole album is great, and after ao long since its release date i still think this is my favorite album
This album is like Mezmerize most likeley because they were supposed to be released together but still on with the review. This album is one of my favorites (next to Steal This Album!) mostly because the lack of air-play on the radio. This album starts with one of the most heaviest song on the album "Attack" and ends with the story-telling "Soldier Side". My favorite songs on this album are all except Lonely Day.
My favorite soad album. Can't wait for the reunion tour, wonder when they're playing in u.s.
Love this album but definitely not pop
This album, and it's older twin, really seem to be the biggest argument that comes around for this band. Good? Not good? Their best? Their worst? All of these things could be said, depending on who you're talking to. Of the pair, however, this one comes off as a bit weaker than it's first half. I almost think that they were wrong in assuming that people wouldn't be able to pay attention to the thing as one whole work, because if I go through them both at one go, it makes for a better idea of where they were going with it. Apart, you end up comparing the two halves against each other as if they were separate works, which is why I think most people tend to prefer Mesmerize. Both of the albums represented a shift towards more radio-friendly modern rock (and also hearing ALOT more of Daron all of a sudden, which is pretty love/hate all around), and that was certainly an adjustment for any long time fans that were around since their more hardcore days, but they do grow on you after you let them sit and settle for a while. Now, with this in mind, they still aren't really the best that this band has to offer, but they are still good enough that I know all the words and sing along and all that junk. So they aren't bad by any means, but the passionate edge and bludgeoning metallic aural assult that Self Titled through Steal This Album featured is just blunted to an extent, and I think most older SOAD fans that didn't jump on the bandwagon because of BYOB and didn't just flat out split when they heard the sound change would agree with me here.
Not their best but a good one Attack: great song 9/10 Hypnotize: the more i listen to this song the more i like it 8.5/10 Vicinity of obscenity: possibly the weirdest song any band has ever released. Still funny, though 7.5/10
Great album especially holy mountains
Yea
I hate the CDs cuz all they have r the clean CDs anyone play ps3?? Add NAZ1_RULE_SS
I love this band forever, such a great album, just like their others. Daron's voice is absolutely beautiful, which is much more apparent in Mez/Hyp being that he sings more. Love it.
I love SOAD and know every single one of their songs. I love this album as much as there others. One of my favorite songs is definitely dreaming. Must get
This album was amazing. whoever itunes hired to write the review was a pretentious douche bag.t. buy this album, its full of great guitar licks, the lyrics are amazing, and they create a sound that none of the other albums have. every system album is great. they're back together so lets hope they make a new album.
no clean version?
I'm tired of people coming on here complaining and saying," I'm a big fan of SOAD but what happened to the old SOAD." anyone who says things like that don't call yourself a HUGE fan because you aren't a HUGE fan. Just respect the fact that they still make good music. So everyone who's looking for the old SOAD and are complaining about this album why don't you just go and listen to one of their old albums and SHUT UP!!!!!!!!
I don't think anyone has noticed that this is the first half and Mesmerize is the second. The last song on this album (Soldier Side) and the first song on Mesmerize (Intro/Soldier Side) are the same and Intro/Soldier Side is linking these two albums together.
HOW THE HELL IS THIS POP???? ITS ACTUALLY GOOD!
WTF THIS IS NOT POP!!!! This is Metal, maybe even Alternative but not pop!
Attack 5/5 Dreaming 5/5 Kill Rock 'n Roll 4.5/5 Hypnotize 5/5 Stealing Society 5/5 Tentative 5/5 U-Fig 5/5 Holy Mountains 5/5 Vicinity of Obscenity 5/5 She's Like Heroin 4/5 Lonely Day 5/5 Solldier Side 5/5 GREAT ALBUM!

My favorite song is Vicinity of Obsenity! You have to buy that one!
It's just so perfect everything this is there best album in my opinion.
NOT POP but still good
They Never Dissapoint, BUT I Have One Question. WHY IS THIS MARKED POP!? She's Like Heroin, Vicinity of Obscenity, Kill Rock 'n Roll, and the other Songs are ROCK AND METAL not POP. Mezmerize and System of a Down are Both AWESOME Albums too Check Them Out
The best band ever's best album
I love all of there songs and all there albums but I do have to say they did a great job on this one and ya if you don't want them to get back together you are on some type of drug
Vicinity of Obscenity and Soldier Side are the best
