Rush is one of my favorite bands of all time (if not THE favorite) and this live recording brings back memories of last years tour. Some of these songs are hard to understand without having seen the S&A tour. For example, you don't know why Alex let's one of the opening chords in Limelight sustain for so long unless you saw it live, lol. The dvd that will be out later in '08 will make it plain. Overall, I think this is a pretty good live album. It captures the S&A tour exactly. This is a mature effort by the boys and what would one expect; they are in their mid 50's and have been doing this for what, 34-35 years? I think this recording is excellent for what it is and I'm glad I bought it.
i give this a 4 because they didnt put summertime blues on it. i went to the atlanta concert and know that rush played summertime blues.that was the best song of the concert. distant early warning isnt even close to being as good as summertime blues. now to the album; awsome concert. even better in real life. especially if its the first time seeing them. i plan on seeing them again in atlanta later this summer.
wow, i saw them live and i was thinking "man, they really need to make a live album from the 08 tour"
sounds just like R30, which sounded just like Rush in Rio, which sounded just like Different Stages...a real snooze fest...what happened to perfection? getting bored with the "bootleg" sounding live albums that they put out after each tour for the last 10 years...don't bother....zzzzzz
these guys rock better than any crap band out there today
I just saw Rush live for the first time in Orlando for the snakes and arrows tour. It was the best show of my life, the cool new videos combined with the light show and new music is awesome.
I just saw this concert last Sunday (4/13/08) and I had no idea Rush was so awesome after all these years. I haven't listened them much outside of "Moving Pictures" from the 80's but I need to get up to date with them now. I had NO idea Geddy Lee could do so much with a bass, not to mention Alex Lifeson on guitar, and Neil Peart is mindblowing - watching him on drums I was speechless! Listen to this album with the volume up and the headphones pressed hard to your ears!!!! In the entire concert, there wasn't anything worth skipping. No opening act and they played for 3 1/2 hours with 1 short break! The drum solo alone is worth buying the whole album!
Because of the set-lit,this is definitely worth having. The stand-by favs are great, but you almost feel like they're from previous live projects. As an aside, screw the rock n roll hall of fame. If a band in the top 10(if not 5?)selling acts of all time can't break in then they can jam it up their @$$#$!!
This band puts on a great live show and having been to see this tour I can say that the live album captured thier greatness. I may be a bit bias since I'm a rabid RUSH fan, but I must say that their recording of live concerts is second to none - it sounds incredible. As with R30, they have created a great piece of live music that every fan will thoroughly enjoy. Long live RUSH!!!
honestly i wouldnt care if the whole album would have been neil banging on some pans geddy playing a rubber band and lifeson making guitar sounds with his mouth, its rush and everything they do is amazing... i saw them on the S&A tour in 2007 and i had lawn seats and the was amazing but my appetite was not cured and i prayed that they would release another album just so they could tour again and as luck would have it, That havent had enough and now i have 14 row orchestra tickets to see the greatest band ever. I never thought i could love three men this way. (no homo)
Back in the early years Rush would put out a live album every 4 studio albums and that seemed to be plenty. Now a days Rush puts forth a live album after every studio LP. But this new disc appears to be the entire show from start to finish and that would be a first. Saw this tour at Mohegan sun casino and it was great, the boys did not play the usual classics like Working Man , 2112 or La Villa but they played Bangkok! and a bunch of there new tunes. There was a screen appearance by the South Park Boys playing Tom Sawyer (classic moment) once again the trio from Canada out does them selves, A true classic live disc, thanks guys.
Rush just seems to get better with age. Peart's lyrics constantly pushing you to make a decision about what's going on in the world. The classics are here as well. There aren't many bands that I would buy the same song time after time but c'mon....IT'S RUSH! There's still nothing like seeing them live but if you can't get to a show then this is the next best thing.
This is THE BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER!!! I was an attendant at this tour (Tweeter Center, Camden, NJ June 2007) so I know first hand how awesome this tour is. It features a great track list including yet another amazing drum solo from the legendary Neil Peart. And let's not forget the timeless classic, Tom Sawyer. And for the first time since the 70's A Passage to Bangkok. I can't wait to see them again in June 2008. Buy this album now!
I am in awe of this band. I had the privelage of getting to spend "An Evening With Rush" at the Superpages Music Center in Dallas, Texas, on the 25th of April and let me tell you that it was a concert I will remember for the rest of my life. If it weren't for their physique, you'd never have known that these guys were a group of 50 somethings. Any song on this album is HIGHLY reccomended.
Why is this band not required listening in Uninversities; Music & Literature?
I saw this show in Jacksonville, Florida and it was simply amazing. The set in the show was 36 songs, and I know they didn't play Circumstances, Distant Early Warning, or a Passage to Bangkok. The songs I remember them adding were Red Barchetta (probably because it's my favorite Rush song), and the Trees, which was frightfully amazing. Neil Peart (that's pronounced Peert, not Pert for all those who don't know) also took an unforgettable solo (you knew he would) and blew everyone's mind. Geddy sounded great on every track, but particularly on Malignant Narcissism. Alex did his thing, need I say more? See this show before the tour ends in August!
I actually had the chance to see them live and it was amazing, the best of Rush plus a live performance on one cd, every song is beautiful quality and amazing vocals, guitar, and drums. You cant beat it.
This band is amazing, their live performances are amazing, and this just backs it all up. I saw them live during this tour, and a virtually flawless performance.
3 words Fab U Lous!!!!
The sound is Rich and Full. Thumbs up to the sound engineer. Neil's Drums have never sounded better.
Wow! Sounds and feels like you are there! 3 guys that have stayed together this long and have produced some of the best music ever! Rush we love you! Keep it up! Can't wait to see you in the Twin Cities in May and Summerfest in June!
Short and sweet, here I go. Saw then on this tour in San Diego and loved it. This cd captures the show. It was great. Rush rules.
Unquestionably amazing. Superior in every way.
Snakes and Arrows Live is pure genius. I saw them in Dallas in August of 2007 the show was sold out 15,000+. This live cd is beautifully mastered. Amazing that a band of 30+ years is still this tight, but any RUSH fan knows these men have the highest standards, always have, always will.
I was fortunate enough to attend the Snakes & Arrows concert this past weekend (April 11, 2008) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. To have this recording released a few days after the show (even though a total coincidence) its just fantastic. What a great present. I have been a fan for nearly 30 years and this was my first chance to see them live. These guys absolutely rock. What a show! I knew they were good, but to see them live…their level of virtuosity is mind blowing. It was a spiritual experience. Can’t wait for the concert DVD to come out so I can revive it again and again. Rush, you have my most sincere gratitude.
Take them to see these guys in concert. I have seen them 5 times and you never know when they may hang it all up. 3 musicians playing extrmely precise. I saw them in Tampa this year again and it was as usual a masterpiece.
this album is why rush is the best live band out there.rush just gets better with age.i mean, how many mid-50 yr olds sound this damn good.an awesome album! incredible drum solo
Rush = amazing Rush live = mind-blowing While I have yet to see Rush live, this album is a testament to their greatness. Each song is clean-cut and sounds great. Geddy sounds amazing, Alex is spectacular, and Neil is on top of his game. It's nice to see them play some of the older material as well as some of the newer stuff. The way that it all flows together is absolutely fantastic. And it's especially nice to see Witch Hunt on the set list. Overall a fantastic addition which I would most definitely recommend to any and all Rush fans.
I saw a few different dates on this tour. The Boston performance was spot on. The MSG/NYC show, not so much. This sounds like it's somewhere in between... it IS Rush after all, but there were better shows they could've captured. Still worth it though. I love Rush live.
These guys man.....these guys have been making my musical and lyrical life better for the past 24 years. That they are still actively touring and releasing albums is just beyond all! More joy for us as the years roll on by. I would love to see them on this tour, as the new album sounds like they are combining new cuts with very deep cuts, and getting rid of the light-weight stuff. I highly reccomend this album to any core Rush fan. Sure this is about the tenth time I have bought the live version of Tom Sawyer, Limelight and Spirit of Radio.....but being the devoted fan that I am, I guess it still sounds epic when it is crunched between some of the new material. The new material sounds EPIC. I can only imagine it with their light show. BUY the album. Your money goes to a REAL band of WORKING MUSICIANS that still TOUR after all these years!
Was another live record really necessary? I mean, fair enough, it's good to out on the road with some product available, but 'Snakes & Arrows' is still around and this is just live album overkill... Still, it is a quality piece of kit and well worth buying, but maybe a live DVD would've been more worth the wait than this...
I Love Rush and I have listening to them since 1980 but they seem to have the same Live CD with the same songs. Why buy it?
Seriously, how many bands can put out a live record after each studio record that is recorded....and still have a fan base willing to go out in droves to purchase them. I don't think the Rolling Stones can even say that. The truth is that Rush has the most passionate, outspoken fans of any band on the planet. Fans expect great things from a new Rush disc, and S&A Live does not disappoint. This record is a worthy addition to any Rush fan's collection. Well done gentlemen!
This album brings me back to the great show this was! Neil of course rocks the show!
RUSH- Simply that it blows my mind to think of three guys, when they sound like a at least there was 2 more in there..lol. I started to listen to Rush in the 80's. Having older brothers and sisters helps to apprecciate music more. I am glad I went to see them live this past sunday 20APR08. All my life I had been waiting to see that show. I love their live performances, they make you feel like you're there. This one is even more special since I experienced it. They played a couple more classics in New Orleans but this DVD just reminds me of the best concert I hae ever been to.
My dad introduced me to Rush while singing along one day to the radio. I have been hooked ever since!!! They perform just as well in concert as on their recordings. This is hard to comeby nowadays with the new technology of "syncing". AKA Britney Spears. believe me, buy this and u will be hooked!!
34 years and counting, another great masterpiece from the trio that defines musicianship...that is RUSH. I 1st saw Rush in 1977 in Chicago...I was 14 and now at 45 I will see them for the 31st time in 31 years. Often overlooked or dismissed by critics and Rolling Stone, their fan base is world strong and rabid.. If you haven't bought any Rush lately, this is the CD for you. They are touring North America , go see what all the fuss is about. If you like 3 hour sets and no crummy warm-up band, this is the summer tour for you. Great production, and some old gems dusted down, this live CD kicks...now get out there and rock and roll the bones!
though this is not the best soundboard mix I've ever heard on a Rush LP, it does capture the show perfectly and they are all as tight as ever. Is it just me though, or do the CD's smell like rotisserie chicken? /shrug
There's so much more energy when you see these guys, Live. Snakes and Arrows tour is the best I've seen and this CD will leave you wanting more. Buy this and buy a ticket to the show. You'll see!
I am a huge rush fan. I thought S&A was one of their best cd's in years. I thought the tour was the best ever. But I really don't see a need for this release. All the songs are available live elsewhere. And the S&A studio album still hasn't worn out its welcome. How many live Rush albums do we need anyway? how about a video of the tour...now that would be worth the cash.
