Moby - Porcelain

Porcelain by Moby Song Info

“Strangely enough, that’s probably the most signature song on the record, and I actually had to be talked into including it. When I first recorded it, I thought it was average. I didn’t like the way I produced it, I thought it sounded mushy, I thought my vocals sounded really weak. I couldn’t imagine anyone else wanting to listen to it. When the tour for Play started, “Porcelain” was the song during the set where most people would get a drink. But then Danny Boyle put it in the movie The Beach with Leo DiCaprio. It was Leo DiCaprio’s first film since Titanic and everyone went to go see it. He used the music so well in the movie. I think that’s when a lot of people became aware of the record”. (c) RollingStone.com “I was involved with this really, really wonderful woman, and I loved her very much. But I knew deep in my heart of hearts that we had no business being romantically involved. So, it's sort of about being in love with someone but knowing you shouldn't be with them," he says. Moby thinks that the track "is a much more delicate, melodic song than a lot of other things that are getting played on the modern rock stations. A lot of the songs I hear when I listen to modern rock radio tend to be very aggressive and really heavy. 'Porcelain' has a very warm, emotional quality to it, so I think that's why it stands out”. (c) Billboard “The song “Porcelain” is just a very introspective, very wistful song about loving someone and being in a relationship with them, but knowing that the relationship isn’t going to last, but not based on any animosity or rancour you might have for that person, but just based on an understanding that you shouldn’t be in a relationship with them. So it’s a wistful, mournful song about loving someone, but having to break up with them anyway”. (c) background from the Interview *** Porcelain is a song by electronica artist Moby, featured as the third track and released as the sixth single from his album Play. It was released on June 12, 2000 in the UK and reached number 5 in the UK charts, Moby's highest chart position there to date. The U.S. release was released two months later, on August 22, but the song could actually have been heard even earlier because it was first featured in 1998 film Playing by Heart. It also appeared on the soundtrack to the 2000 film The Beach. Porcelain contains pulsating string samples, piano rhythms and wandering solos by Moby. The beginning is a reverse sound of sampled strings. Moby performs vocals, with additional vocals by Pilar Basso According to the Porcelain Songfacts, this reached #5 in the UK, Moby's highest charting postion to date there.

- MOBY CLASSIC!

I love this album by far the best one, great melody's that make you fly...in electro lounge I also download the new ARNO ELIAS "Paradise Overdose Album and for the people who like this type of music i really recommend it.

- Great!!!

Every song in this Album is awesome!!

- Amazing!!!

I love this album. It's my favorite, and hold so many nostalgic memories of my childhood.

- Moby at His Finest

This album is by far Moby's greatest achievment. Sure, people say the real Moby was before this or he just got better. But there's a reason this album went to sell ten million copies worldwide and have its singles used in almost every commercial and movie you've ever seen. The B-Sides are not as good, but they show a different side to Moby and his music. Best Tracks: Honey Porcelain Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? South Side Natural Blues Flower

- Do I really need a subject line?

I think what the B sides show is the consistency of Moby's musical voice through different styles and instrumentation. Like an artist who uses different media for different things. Some of the tracks just aren't as hook successful, but I can see them working as dramatic underscore. It's inspiring to hear it all back to back.

- Fantastic!

Moby is such a cool mixer, Porcelain is amazing.

- Play=Moby's best album

Nuff said.

- Greatest Album of 1999

What can I say, this album was every bit of greatness. If there was an album that brought me great childhood memories, this was the one because it's the embodiment of my childhood. This was the first album that got me off from children sing alongs into this adult like music. All of those amazing music videos, radio replays, and hype that Moby made out of this album in 1999 was all earned with greatness. Everybody that I knew, growing up, all loved these songs. The songs that we all danced through was Porcelain, Running, South Side, and especially Bodyrock. Everything else was enjoyable to listen to when we walk in the streets carrying our radios or using our ear phones. Despite Nirvana's Nevermind, This was one of the best albums of the 90's and I'm greatful to have great childhood memories with this album.

- Play

This is what many consider to be Moby's greatest album. Personally, I prefer "18". This was really the first Moby album to crossover into the mainstream. So, it is quite understandable why so many would feel that way. This album, like "18" had many inescapable and enjoyable songs that were constantly featured in movie soundtracks, talk-show bumper music, and random commercial advertisements. Of those from this album the best are "Honey", "South Side" (with and without Gwen Stefani), "Bodyrock", "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" and "Porcelain". If you can find them here or elsewhere, here are some remixes that emanated from this CD that I would recommend: "Honey" (Rollo & Sister Bliss Blunt Mix) "Porcelain" (Torsten Stenzl Remix Edit) "Natural Blues" (Perfecto Mix) by Paul Oakenfold "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" (ATB Remix) "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad"" (Ferry Corsten Remix) "Bodyrock" (Hybrid's Bodyrob Remix) "Bodyrock" (Olav Basoski's Da Freak Funk Da Hot Funk Mix) "Run On" (Moby's Remix) The B-Sides are good as well.

- this is an amazing collection

Ok do not believe the review provided by itunes. the B-sides collection contains some real gems...a few songs like "Memory Gospel" and "Spirit" are far superior to the weaker songs on Play...like "Inside" and "the sky is broken". i only wish i didnt own 3 copies of Play and the B-sides collection twice or i would buy this. $9.99 is a great deal there are 29 songs here! and this is Moby at his most inspired. i hope he records another album and huge collection of b-sides this heartfelt and brilliant again.

- Awesome!

Wow I love Moby and this is one of his finest. The best tracks in my opinion are: Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad Natural Blues Porcelain Machete Whispering Wind Flower

- yessss

flower is amazing. its so FREAKIN AWESOME IT BLOWS MY MIND

- The Best "Random" Purchase Ever

I purchased Moby's "Play" album, which included the B-sides at the time, on a whim when I was younger. The only song that I had recognized from him was "Porcelain", which could be recognized from that one movie (the movie itself slipped my mind, nor do I care to actually recall what it was). Nonetheless, this was one of the best "random" album purchases ever made. If you're into his kind of music, those that are kind of chill that is, then you'll definitely find something to like in this album. I didn't like 'South Side' so much despite it being released as a single with Gwen Stefani, but the rest of the album holds strong. The album does a great job of emoting itself. And needless to say after purchasing his album, his songs started popping up all over in commercials and movie trailers.

- Moby RULES!!!

I like how moby throws in all of those different instuments in " Flower" all of his songs are awesome!!

- Play - The outtakes

i-tunes would you please consider offering a very rare album of Play called the outtakes? It has many unbelievable tracks from Moby including "Graciosa" which many Moby fans believe is one of his best songs.

- Great Album

Play is definitely my favorite Moby album with 18 coming in close 2nd. This compilation blurs the line between the B sides and the actual album beautifully. I think there are at least 5 songs not release on the main Play album that are just as good as the rest. Favs include Porcelain, South Side, Guitar Flute & String, and Whispering Wind. If you are at all interested in Moby, get this compilation and you will not be disappointed.

- You Know, NeonFoxes Can Fly

Play is a great album and it's been kind of passed downf rom my parents to me and I lvoe it! Moby is awesome and the B-Sides make it only better! "Prcelain", "Suth Side", "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?", "Natural Blues", "Bodyrock", "If Things Were Perfect", "Flower", "Sunday", "Flying Foxes", "Fly Over the Dateline" and "Running" should be bought.

- I had come to my jurney ends and his music had become my jurney..

His music live in my heart... Good thoughts of friends and live forever live because his music...

- First Time Hearin' It

I remember hearin Find My Baby in like 5th grade in music class.... It took me forever to figure out who did that song! I love Moby! Deffinetely a must buy album.

- Excellent Album and Value

Not only is this album very solid, as previous reviewers have already noted, but purchasing it on iTunes gives you quite the deal. $9.99 getting you twenty-nine songs is not shabby at all.

- Fabulously Relaxing Yet Energizing

I came across this album by accident looking for a song from an episode of X Files. Moby has done several songs for the series and when I found this collection I was ecstatic!!! What a find. It soothes the soul and energizes the spirit. The album is a must have in any collection of a person who truly appreciates music.

- Must be album

I just love this album
