Metallica - The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen by Metallica Song Info

"The Four Horsemen" is the second track on the album. The original song, called "The Mechanix", had different lyrics, and was written by Mustaine during the time when he was in his previous band Panic. After Mustaine was ejected from Metallica, he included it on Megadeth's first album, Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!, with the title slightly shortened to just "Mechanix", with the original lyrics, and at a much faster tempo. After he left, Hetfield rewrote the lyrics and Hammett added a new, melodic guitar solo in the middle of the song. This section is rarely played when Metallica performs this song live. "The Four Horsemen" is a definite fan-favorite song of Metallica. The title also served as a source for one of the band's nicknames. The lyrics, as the title suggests, are about the end of the world and the apocalypse, referring to the biblical text about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. However, many believe the song is about Metallica themselves as the "horsemen." The lyrics refer to the horsemen as Time, Famine, Pestilence and Death. This is a revision upon an already non-canonical misinterpretation of the Biblical passages. In the Bible, the Four Horseman are actually Conquest, War, Famine, and Death. During the bridge of the song, bassist Cliff Burton's voice can be heard providing the backing vocals.

- No Remorse

Their first album, their third best (behind Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets), was full of great songs and No Remorse. Yup, there is 9 great songs, and No Remorse, because No Remorse is a horrible song, compared to the others. I don't even care about No Remorse, and it is so stupid. Please buy every song on here, and then Delete No Remorse, Its much cheaper than buying all the songs except for No Remorse.

- a powerful hardcore album

the second part of no remorse has the best riff ive every heard nuff said

- welcome to thrash

well ladies and germs this is the album that brought thrash/speed metal to the mainstriam play it loud and bang your head

- Remaster 'Em All

The 2nd Metallica cassette I ever owned, and at times it is my favorite album (bouncing back and forth between ...And Justice for All). Of the 2 remasters that I own currently (this and Justice) this one has clear improvements from the opening notes. Hit the Lights sounds so good, especially now that a lot of the rhythm guitar is more present...it just seems to cut through the mix better. The other thing is, along with the other remaster I own, the EQ has been rebalanced not only for Apple devices, but it sounds much better when sending it through any AUX jack. If you are a diehard Metallica fan, don't think about buying this....just do it.

- One of the top debut albums of all-time.

Whether or not Metallica were the first thrash metal band is debatable. They did, however, release the first thrash metal album, Kill 'Em All. A true classic. Here are my favorites: 1. The Four Horsemen 2. Seek & Destroy 3. Phantom Lord 4. Jump in the Fire 5. No Remorse

- Yes!!!

This and master of puppets were the greatest records metallica has ever made they are amazing

- YEAH !

METALLICA BEST BAND EVER!

- I was disappointed that this album only had 10 songs

My favorite album, killer riffs. I literally listen to this album every day.

- Amazing

Debut album of the masters of thrash metal

- Good but...

I love this album. It's raw and full of aggression. But the fact that it doesn't have Metallica's original cover of "Am I Evil" on it disappoints me.

- Kill em All

Bin jamming to this from day! Never gets old & is still 1 of best albums put out by Metallica!!!!! Best consert was Riverfest in Manchester, NH All general addmission

- The best metal album out there

There is no song on this album that isn't truly impeccable. This is Metallica at its finest and has the best thrash metal sound anyone could want. Between Hit the Lights, The Four Horsemen, Motorbreath, and everything in-between, this album truly is thrash metal at its finest.

- The original start....

Great to listen to and great to play to. Been listening to Metallica for over twenty years and this album is still one of my favorite. \m/

- Maybe my favorite.

This album has everything that should be in a Metallica album. There is tons of energy, biting social commentary (yes James does that, remember?), and great musicianship. There is tons of enthusiasm on this record, and this may be the most prominent bridge between metal and punk ever. There are great song writing contributions from Cliff Burton and dave Mustaine (though I never remember if he actually recorded on this). Fun fact, James wanted John Bush (yes the one from metal church and later anthrax) to sing for the band on this album.) Unlike some people I actually like John Bush, but James was always meant to sing in this band.

- Outstanding to say the least!

This album is an absolute gold mine! There isn't one bad song, and the guitar riffs are wicked intense. On a scale from 1-10 i'd rate this an 11.

- My god….

YOU CAN ACTUALLY HEAR THE BASS

- People!

Looking through reviews and a lot of your facts are false. First, this isnt hardcore punk, this is the birth place of heavy metal. Second, seek and destroy isn't what got them started, track No.1 Hit the lights did. I could sit here all day talking about Metallica facts but I've got to go Kill Em All!

- Metalface

Great album this work of art was originally written by the former member of Metallica Dave Mustaine who later formed the great band Megadeth

- This is my favorite Metallica Album

The songs in this are so action packed, I can't get enough of them. The riffs are what hooked me on this album. If you want fantastic Thrash Metal BUY IT, and to the guy that said go listen to Megadeth, why they aren't better than Metallica, and if Metallica wasn't formed neither would Megadeth...

- Boom

dave mustaine…nuff said.

- groundbreaking

I was 15 when I first heard this album. It was 1984. It changed my thoughts about music. Metallica is one of those bands that went past what was previously done. To kids now they can't understand what it was like to hear music like this when there wasn't anyone close to this before them. Buy this if you don't already have it!!!!

- Awsome

Best thrash album out there... Period

- Motorbreath! That's how I live my life!

Great thrash metal debut, almost as good as killing is my buisness, this is metalicas best album, most likely because dave mustaine wrote many of the songs. I do prefer megadeth, but this album is awsome

- Great Album!

The Album that started it all! Great songs!

- Best band ever

Can't believe they evolved so much! Amazing record and for the stupid haters dave only did 4 songs on here and none on ride the lightning idiots! Good record Metallica !

- Not the best production though really good

The birth of Metallica's discography starts at Kill 'Em All. So let's get started! 1. Hit the Lights: 10/10; This song is awesome, an a Metallica original. 2. The Four Horsemen: 10/10; One of Metallica's best. 3. Motorbeath: 7/10; An unmemorable, short song. 4. Jump In the Fire: 8.75/10; One of Dave Mustaine's co-written songs (also includes the Four Horsemen, Phantom Lord, and Metal Militia). 5. (Anesthesia)- Pulling Teeth: 10/10; A great bass solo written by Cliff Burton. 6. Whiplash: 10/10; A thrash classic about how they started. 7. Phantom Lord: 10/10; Their top 5 songs off this album. 8. No Remorse: 8.5/10 9. Seek & Destroy: 10/10; Metallica's best off this album! 10. Metal Militia: 10/10; One of thrash's best! Average rating of this album: 9.45/10; A great thrash album, though the production could be better! Recommended tracks: Hit the Lights The Four Horsemen Jump In the Fire (Anesthesia)- Pulling Teeth Whiplash Phantom Lord No Remorse Seek & Destroy Metal Militia

- am i evil never originally came on here

am i evil and blitzkrieg were realeased on the creeping death single after ride the lightning album came out if those two songs belonged anywhere it should be on RTL

- God Yes

My First Album By Metallica

- Amazing album!

Not sure why anyone would complain about this album, but one thing I don't like is how in the iTunes review they don't credit Dave mustaine at all, even though he did help write and play the entire album

- The beggining of the KINGS OF METAL!

Easily the best trash debut album and one of the best debut albums in METAL history!!! Long live the KINGS OF METAL!!!!

- Their Greatest❗️

They have a few incredibly great albums but this one by far is their best the "four Horsemen" the greatest song ever👍❗️

- First album was killer

They "killed us all" with their riffs. Hit the Lights, Phantom Lord, Seek and Destroy, and Whiplash were my favorites. I'm a little upset Am I Evil? and Blitzkrieg weren't on the album but this album did what the name of it says

- The Best Metallica Ever

This is by far the heaviest and thrashiest. Gotta Love to bang the head that doesnt bang.

- Worth the purchase

Metallica's debut isn't as well put together as "Master of Puppets" or "...And Justice for All" but it's still worth the purchase because it's still epic thrash metal.

- BEST METALLICA ALBUM

ITS HEAVY AND REAL ITS ABSOLUTLY AMAZING IVE LISTENED TO IT 19373627101272 TIMES. BUY IT IF YOUR A BIG METALLICA FAN

- Mustaine's Best!

Great album by Dave Mustaine!!! 10/10

- THRASH!

Metallica's first album, so epic as it introduces thrash metal and gives Metallica their name!

- Without Music, Life Would Be a Mistake.

There’s so much energy in this excellent album.

- Alright

Blitzkrieg was on here at one point now it's gone I know I had it what's up Apple. Pissin me off

- rocker

Metallica Forever

- The debut of a Metal Legend!

This is the beginnings of Metallica. If you've listened to Metallica's newer albums, this will sound pretty alien to you. This is when Metallica was young, angry, and hungry for metal. This is by far my favorite debut album I own. If you're a true Metallica fan, then this is a must for you!

- Fantastic Album!

Fantastic album from a fantastic band. With tracks like The Four Horsemen, Metal Melitia, Motorbreath, and Phantom Lord Mustaine's influence is clearly demonstrated. Metallica wouldn't be anything if not for Dave Mustaine. His riffs paved the way for their success. (He wrote the title track for the second album, which arrived on the scene YEARS after his, unfit, departure from the band.) Up the Iro... I mean, Metallica! (Megadeth is better. See any of their albums since 1988. Listen to anything Metallica past 1992. Shock and Awe.)

- Remaster is EPIC!!!

I bought both remasters today, this one and Ride the Lightning. I think this one is the most improved. I here things I didn’t hear before. Weird sound effects tracks and things. I heard them on my crappy old burned copy, but never clear enough to know what they were. Screams and things. Excellent job Metallica! It must not have been easy to get all the old reel to reels to sync up. I am mightily impressed. Hey I have an idea for the box set for ...And Justice for All. Include a picture disk with Jason Newstead on it, and turn the whole band down to an almost inaudible level except for the bass. Turn the bass up to 10! Call it …And Justice for Jason. You guys rule. You’ve probably already thought of it. Great job on the remasters. Thanks again.

- AWESOME!!!👏👏👏👍👍👍

Love it, usually the debut albums ate always the best, and i think its safe to say that that could be no further from the truth. This album Rocks, i want it soo badly. My thums are up on this one!

- One of The Best Metal Debut Albums EVER 9/10

Not really underrated, but usually in the shadows of Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets...Anyways a really unique sound compared to other Metallica album and stuff... Hit The Lights:8.5/10 The Four Horseman:10/10 Motor-Breath:8/10 Jump In The Fire:9/10 Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth):9.5/10 Whiplash:8.75/10 Phantom Lord:8/10 No Remorse:9.75/10 Seek & Destroy:10/10 Metal Malichia:9.5/10

- Amazing start for a great band

This is probably the best Metallica album. It's incredible that this is their first album. This is an amazing album. A must buy album.

- Review of the first album

Not the best Metallica album ever, but Definitely the most important. The sound of the album is punk and metal mixed, and shows the building blocks that Metallica used to build there success. Favorites are "search & destroy","no remorse" and "whiplash".

- Before Metallica sold out

The best, but now there sellouts

- This started a new era

If you think about when this album came out it is mind blowing . Enjoy Metallica from the Start and hit the lights !!!

- Great album

This is my fourth favorite metallica album. I like RtL, MoP, and AJFA slightly better, but I still love this album. Hit the lights= 10/10 The first song of metallica. An awesome song. The four horsemen= 10/10 Very very creative and great song. Motorbreath= 9.5/10 Great song. Jump in the fire= 10/10 Great song and awesome solo. (Anesthesia)--Pulling Teeth=7.75/10 Cliff Burton was a great bass player, but this song could have been a little bit shorter. Whiplash= 8.5/10 Great but it seems like they are bragging about how good they are to much. Phantom lord= 8.25/10 Good song. No Remorse= 8.5/10 Good song. Seek and destroy=15/10 (Yes, I said 15/10. This is in my top 5 favorite metallica songs. It's probably in my top 5 songs ever.) Metal Militia= 5.9/10 I don't think this is the best album closer it is to repetitive and kind of boring. Seek and destroy, the four horsemen, and jump in the fire all would have been awesome album closers.
