Fantastic album - especially Bullet in the Brain. Coming to New Zealand next year!!! Canât wait
Great vocals. Tight Production. Black Keys doing what they do best and yet doing something different as well. Drink to it. Party to it. With yourself. Or others. It doesn't matter cos True Blue rocks out.
This is not El Camino part 2..Its the Black Keys doing what they do best, Twisting Rock n Roll yet again. Brilliant.
ok these reviews are stupid this is he black keys best album are you kidding me it's their magnum opus, they are better with slow bluesy type songs
I think this album is really good. It is quite different from their previous albums, but I feel like it is deeper and more emotional. I saw them in concert and they were so amazing working with this album. They still go strong with their sick instruments (especially the electric guitar) and he still kills it with his talented and identical voice. đđ
Not like the old black keys
I think that their new twist on this album is great.
Talk about copying the black angels all the way down to the album cover
They make good music and sound good. If they did what the reviews wanted them to do, we would all look back in 20 years and say, "wow, all the Black Keys' albums sound alike?" New sounds are good, new experience. Brothers had its own theme and so did El Camino; now we have Turn Blue which is what the band wanted at the time. Its good music.
I am still adjusting to the new black keys music but otherwise i like it. I still like the music from the albums "Magic Potion" and "Rubbery Factory" but I am still pleased with this new album.
It's great!
The black keys will always be my favorite band
I pre ordered the CD, and the first time listening to it, I was engulfed by their music. But, like everything else in my life, I used it too much, then got bored of it (that wasn't a sexual joke). So that left me leaving the CD on a shelf. I then came back to it, and it had grown on me again, like listening to it the first time. It's good for a band today, but I would rather much listen to Pink Floyd, or Jimi, but overall, my experience with this is like the cover of AM, going up and down with my emotions about this group.
Awesome
honestly I loved the keys and their old albums like "rubber factory" and "the big come up", but I don't understand what's so terrible about "turn blue"? I absolutely love it! yeah it's a new direction, yeah it's not the same as their old music, but it's definitely NOT in the wrong direction. I think it's still blues. maybe not the sound, but the lyrics. the synthesized sounds and all around sound might be different, but it's still there. I do at least, it hasn't gone, but it has changed. it sounds awesome and I can't wait for their next album
They went from awesome garage rock back to this crap??? No Zeus No!
What the hell is this?
Buy this if you like great music. Ignore all the comments from those who canât accept the fact that great bands grow, mature, and expand their horizons. This is definitely new ground for the Black Keys and itâs fantastic! Believe me, you can love both the old stuff (which I do) AND the newer progressive material. Instead of living in the past, try growing with the band. If not, just keep listening to the old albums. Itâs all a matter of taste. Personally, after several listens I just canât get enough of this album.
This album is superb. It shows a band that has evolved past the point of having to write singles and has made an entire album. It flows so perfectly. The instrumentation and sound produced makes this album so unique in that it gives depth to the band as people. Not to mention the lyricism of Dan. The stories he is telling are put so elloquently and beautifully. This album deserves a lot of praise, for it is a work of art.
It's like the old Black Keys meet U2, and it's a really neat sound.
This is one of those albums that the more you listen the more you like it. Don't expect an artist or band to remain the same because that becomes boring. The quality of the songs are superb. Five stars!
Great album a must have
This is another wonderful album as many expect from this fantastic band, but I don't like the way this the Black Keys are becoming more alternative and less rock. I do know that this is the natural course of many bands to become more modern so I don't expect any change. Overall there are some fabulous gems in this album, and no bad songs in my opinion, so once again I applaud the Black Keys fabulous work.
I'll pass on this one. I'm all for progression and artistic freedom but the heart and soul that pours from Magic Potion is not apparent in this album. For now I will get my rock and roll fix from Hanni El Khatib. Hopefully their collaborations don't end up in the same place as this album.
People complain about all there new stuff but really there just getting better and better this album is surprisingly just as good is not better than el camino, brothers, attack and release and the rest
Listen to it twice.. The songs will most def stick to you brain with Super Glue! Especially the 1st track. I Love it!
Come one guys, get with the program.
This makes three albums in a row of mediocre music from them. It's a shame. They really had somehting cool. Anyway, the opening track "Weight of Love" has a pretty cool guitar solo toward the end but the beginning sounds like they binged on Pink Floyd and then wrote a song. Gilmour may have a case against them. The title track is also good but the rest of the album is forgettable, just like El Camino and Brothers. I hate when bands get famous
I definitely admit this album is nothing like El Camino. But it is great in its own way. The more I listen to it, the more i'm liking it. Its a great variety and a pretty good balance. My favorites? Fever, Weight of Love, Bullet in the Brain, Gotta Get Away, and Turn Blue
One of the best, most professional albums i have heard in a long time. along with Morrissey's latest and Spoon's. Temporary relief from the stress of World Peace.
The black keys are probably my favorite group. The guitar riffs and intricate drumming made for a unique sound. The singing never was the greatest, but the total sound was. This album doesn't feature anything I think the band excels at, and instead shows of a side I detest. I can hardly hear the guitar over the unholy mess of synthesized sounds they've jammed this album with. If this is honestly the direction they want to take themselves, I might have made my last purchase of a black keys album
Not sure what the brothers were going for here, but I do not understand the concept. I know that bands like to try new things, and I am cool with that, but energy and passion are missing from this effort.
Obvious that they went with a more contemporary sound with this album and I'm loving it so much better than their previous style! I can honestly say this is the first time I want to keep listening to one of their songs!
Without The Schtick. I have not heard one tune I do not like by my Black Keys. Do Pat and Dan make a bad song. I think not. I love all the songs. Well, one or two took a few listens to love, however, I am a true fan. They are True to their love of music and it comes through. To Die For once again. The Black Keys have yet to disappoint.
I like the change in direction. Also people getting really butthurt over the change is hilarious.
Weight of love, fever, turn blue, gotta get away all great songs they never disappoint.
This album isnât the best of The Black Keys, and in my opinion theyâve been declining since Attack & Release. However, âWeight of Loveâ is my favorite song theyâve ever made. Itâs the most soulful, passionate, and hard-rocking song theyâve ever made. The outdo starting at 4:40 is incredible, it reduced me to tears!!!
To me Turn Blue is an album that provides fresh rock that puts your mind at ease. I love it 100% and highly recommend getting this album
GOOD JAMS
Change is good, but as long as you change for the better - for the betterment of oneâ self, or band in this case. These guys really took a leap with this album, and in my eyes there is no way they are truly happy with it. After âAttack & Releaseâ I unfortunately stopped truly loving their music. Since âBrothersâ all their music has really taken a turn for the worse. In this case, worse for the true true fans and better for all you Pop lovers. In the pop lovers eyes, they are doing fantastic, and I could agree with them, but seriously⊠from âBrothersâ to âTurn Blueâ it has been them trying to write songs for the general public and not themselves. They seriously lost touch with what they really had⊠what they CREATED. They arenât making anything new here at all, and it is disappointing. I mean⊠very cheap lyrics and over produced to the max. I still love them, but man have I lost respect. Also, Turn Blueâs album cover⊠HELLO????? RIP OFF of the Black Angels. Just google Black Angels and you WILL KNOW what I am talking about. So cheap.
This is only the second Black Keys album I've purchased, the other being "Brothers". Unlike many of the other reviewers, I really like the direction the music is going.
Most definitely one of the best albums ever made! They never fail to make a great album. Just went to the concert in Greenville. Best my amazing concert ever!!!!!
Same expansion of sound as El Camino, which was a good thing. However this album lacks the lyrical depth and growth up to El Camino. Dan sings in falsetto on many songs, which the Mouse should have vetoed. Very few men can sing falsetto well enough to not wince. Dan cannot. I love BK and everything they have done. This is the first album I have to listen through 5 times before I start warming up to it. A bad BK album is better than 90% of anybody else's music. Even Van Gogh created a couple of paintings that were beneath his genius.
hey guess what u lames the hella rad blues nd all their old albums still exist nd ths album rocks just as much as the rest 10/10 hell ysss
Black Keys I though âU2 devalued your musicâ? Then why do I have to pay $7.99 for it.
The evolution of this group is amazing from two poor boys from the south and thier whit singing blues amazing
I actually really love this album. I think it's fantastic. The guitar is amazing. And the fact that Dan is the vocalist and the guitarist makes it all the more better. Fever, Year in Review, gotta get away, and weight of love are my favorites. But everything on the album is extremely solid. They mix instruments that sound fantastic and because of this album they are my new favorite band. I highly recommend it. All of their albums are fantastic and they evolve more and more. They're great!
Love it
Even though it's different, I'm still in love. Listen to this album with an open mind.
This album is amazing!!! I want to get it on vinyl!!! Trying my best to find it right now but I absolutely LOVE this album it is amazing!!!
So sad and disappointed. I was looking forward to another great album. This one lacks any soul. Will the real Black Keys please make another album!!!
TBK do it again. Great album, addicting tracks, Pat kills it as usual, Dan soulful as ever. if your a fan, watch some interviews on why TBK decided to go this direction. What i love about these guys is that they manage to reinvent themselves on every album. Never have a listened to a band that does it so proficiently. Try not to bind them into a cookie cutter idea of genres. TBK transcends all that noise. Fav tracks in order. "10 Lovers", "Weight of Love", "In Time", "Its up to you now". Enjoy
I love this album, and I kind of get where people are coming from when they say it's a different kind of music for this group, and that's totally fine with me. the black keys are the same amazing band regardless of their music style to me. can't wait to see them in concert tomorrow ăœàŒŒàșÙÍàșàŒœïŸ

Sick song
On commence tranquillement à perdre l'essence de The Black Keys, i.e, une guitare pis un drum qui sonne sale. Attendons pour voir si les gars ont opté pour le cÎté sage de la pop.
Ohh lord. Where to begin. With this altogether "new" sound, The Keys once again prove themselves to be one of the most creative and satisfying rock bands in the world. Striking a different tone than "El Camino",the duo (along with all-too-obvious direction from Producer Brian Burton a.k.a Danger Mouse), settle into a sultry groove for much of the album, sounding a bit like if Burton had produced more of "Brothers" than just 'Tighten Up'. 'Weight of Love' is an atmospheric slow-burner, perfectly laying the blueprint for the rest of the album. Buy it. 'Bullet in the Brain' works the same magic, but then goes all-crazy-with-the-drums with restraint that "El Camino" could have beneffited from. Buy it. 'Gotta Get Away' is the perfect up-beat-but-sad closer, and I will be singing it to myself for a long time. BUY IT. 'Waiting on Words' is also excellent, same with 'Year in Review'. Well, really, the whole album is more cohesive than any new album I've heard in months, and once you allow yourself to really enjoy it a few times, you'll see it for what it really is: Another striking entry in a strikingly impressive career. I myself was a doubter at first, having heard 'Fever' and having tried soo hard to like it when holding it up to their past work. I heard 'Turn Blue' (the song) as well, and found it oddly inoffensive, especially for a single release, but soon I noticed that the effect of having two singles that actually appear sequentially on the album was demonstrated perfectly here. When I finally sat down to listen to the album in one sitting, I was still certain that this would be it, the album where one of my favorite bands lost me...but ohhh ye of little faith.
Some people need to realize that a band can't keep making a similar record every time... You have to accept when a band goes a different route. This album is amazing. Flashes of Pink Floyd in some of the songs
J'adore le premier Single ... J'ai hate d'Ă©couter l'album en entier :D !
Juste fou, j'ai vraiment hùte d'écouter le reste de l'album, j'ai précommander l'album, la journé qu'il a été annoncé !!!
I wonder if they even remember rubber factory or magic potion. As soon as people ate up the keyboard in howling for you they've just been wailing and keyboarding away.......
They came back with a good grove , I'm stoked to hear the whole album!
So excited for all of the new songs!
Once again the Keys have expanded their range with a bunch of really catchy tunes. What a great idea to stream the whole album on iTunes. Have listened to it 3 or 4 times already and can't wait to purchase it (on vinyl).
I'm really enjoying the first single, "Fever". Very catchy stuff. Looking forward to the entire album.
i cant wait for this album, the black keys are coming back with a great sound :D
Loving the new sound! Although I miss the raw blues sound this is great! Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album!
Canât wait
these guys just keep getting better!
First single sounds awesome, can't wait for the rest of the album
Excellent son, i love it. Merci Julie de m'avoir fait découvrir Black keys !!!
I like it.
Just listened to the Black Keys Album for the first time! Simply amazing! Instrumentals sound like a mix of Pink Floyd matched with those amazing Keys vocals we have come to know. It is a chill mix of funk, loud drums, piano, base and catchy harmony vibes ... play this album loud! Might go down as one of the best of the year!
I really like it when musician keep refining their sound while keeping the same spirit. Catchy grooves!
Can't wait for the album!!!
It's definitely a new kind of sound... and it's fantastic!
I read in RS that it was a more psychedelic sounding album. Sounds a little on the pop side, too bad. Saw them on their A&R tour in a local night club with Nathaniel Mayer and it was probably one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Love @ 1st Listen Looking forward to the whole album
From what I hear I really like the Album, new to the Black Keys I like toe tapping licks that race you head long to the next song. Probably why i'm not a huge fan of Attack and Release. While that is a decent album it isn't a Black Keys album. For those of you who think they should return to their roots and produce the same thing they did 10 years ago in their garage and never evolve, well maybe you should try evolving. If a band is going to stay on top they have to move forward and not just be stuck in the same ole mud hole. Thank god for the Keys, real music I can't wait to hear the whole album.
Don't let guys like TheGreyKey mislead you with "No True Scotsman" fallacies; this is the new Keys, and it's fantastic. Guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach described Turn Blue as a "headphone record", and it rings true throughout. This record occupies your headspace for its entire 45-minute runtime. Turn Blue has a distinctly psychedelic-desert vibe, and the use of these recurring/thematic sounds strings the album's tracks together wonderfully. An unabashed breakup album, the lyrics at times evoke rage, pity and heartbreak, but also a sense of overcoming. This is all compounded by the album's spaced-out feel, isolating Auerbach in a barren emotional wasteland. Longtime fans who won't let go of the band's older sound will be disappointed -- the sound won't return to its pre-Attack & Release days. Those of us mature enough to realize that artists' tastes and perception evolve with time embrace the beauty of that sentiment, and this album embodies that entirely.
To me it changes the whole Definition of the black keys Right from the first track Nice alum.
Awesome feeling.... Amazing songs

Long time fan of the black keys...up until this album, I don't mind bands taking a new direction and finding new sounds but I can't get used to this album.
I think it's a really good change from The Black Keys, you can definitely hear Danger Mouse's influence on here. It has a very Broken Bells-ish sound, which is no bad thing.
I waited up all night to listen to the full album as soon as possible and I have to tell you that if you like 'fever' or you are deciding whether you like it, the rest of the album only gets better ! This is a fantastic step up for the keys. Must buy.
Fantastic album all the way through
i love The Black Keys so couldnt wait to buy this new album last night but after I bought and downloaded song no.3 and song no.10 only play for less than 1 minute and there is no option to re-download these songs :( please get this sorted ITUNES A.S.A.P as the album is awesome but i am gutted I have only 9 full songs
I have just streamed this album and listened in full and for a band so inspired by blues and soul, this has none of their trademark raw blues sound and lacks soul. It's reminiscent of a pop pink floyd (and no that's not in a good way). if you are thinking of buying this buy their second album Thickfreakness - way better. Get back to just Dan and Patrick and get rid of the other guys they are sapping the energy from the crowd man!
Love the songs, particularly Weight of Love and Turn Blue. This isn't that different for the Black Keys, Brothers, I think is similar in mood
Been waiting for this album for a long time and now it's finally come, could not have expected it to be any more brilliant! Some smooth catchy beats and unique vocals from dan that we all love, by far the best band out at the moment !
The new Black Keys album offers a perfect blend of psychedelic rock with a healthy blend of bluesy dance floor numbers to boast. A wonderfully balanced mix of contemporary rock with old school influences. I smell a grammy for this one. Two thumbs up!
Turn Blue is a nice change of style for the Keys. The album plays perfectly in your headphones. El Camino was definitely more raw rock from the Keys but Turn Blue is more psychedelic and trippy making for a relaxing and awesome album.
not progressin! How can a band go from the bold blues guitar of Thickfeakness etc ... to this? Pop? VERY disappointed, bought it on pre-order thinkin, 'it's The Black Keys, it'll be fine when i get the rest of the songs!' I was wrong. So wrong.
Most fans who donât like this album will be those unwilling to accept a band changing its style. If judged without paying attention to any of The Black Keysâ previous work, this is a fantastic album. That it isnât what some people were expecting, or indeed what they wanted, does not affect the quality of the music. Start to finish, great music.
Been a Black Keys fan for about 5 years now after getting them recommended by friend. IMO this another superb album which warms my soul and makes me happy. That's what music is all about, emotion in motion..
Just like stus bell end .
The album is a nice listen, from an epic start with soft chords and heavy riffs to the different but good bullet in the brain, the title track is also relaxing and pleasant. Peoples usual reviews are always the same, always commenting on past albums, reviewed in its own merit, this is easily a 4/5.
A change in direction for The Black Keys but Iâm not sure itâs a welcome one. I think most people would have been happy for them to produce one more raw, fresh album. There are definitely some good tracks like Fever, Weight of Love, Bullet In the Brain (which sounds like a Pink Floyd classic with that echoing guitar) on this album but if I am honest itâs just a bit dull overall. Comparing this album with El Camino makes you realise that they missed the mark. Overall definitely worth a listen though. If this was a debut album by a new band everyone would be raving about it.
A nice change of pace, more of a psycho-lite mixed in the blues, very nice.
A few good tracks but the melancholy tones of this album just destroy the upbeat blues feel of the black keys. I didn't intend to buy pink floyd but that's all that I can hear. Please go back to blues for your next album otherwise your fan base will be replaced with people who would rather pirate your album than buy. Though by the standard of these songs I'm starting to feel that it might have been ÂŁ9 down the drain. MAYBE it will grow on me who knows....
Having heard 'Fever' initially, I was worried that Turn Blue wouldn't follow the suit of the Keys' pervious albums. However, I found that 'Fever', as well as 'Turn Blue' - the album's title song, grew on me. Just as I love the Black Keys' old stuff, from albums such as 'Rubber Factory', 'Attack and Release', and 'Brothers', I appreciate this fresh new sound and tone, welcoming it with open arms. Some people worry that this album appeals to a more pop-orientated, musically common, demographic, but I find this album to be a just constitution of the Black Keys' musical ability. They were brilliant before, and they're still brilliant now - a change in tone changes nothing in regard to their stature as a quality band. Overall, the album is great - holding an extremely welcome 'Pink Floyd-esque' presence in songs such as 'Weight of Love'. I would recommend this album to lovers of the Black Keys', alternative rock music, those who are seeking a grittier mode of pop, and those with an iota of common sense. Brilliant.
So far there are some great songs, can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
I didnât know what to expect when i first heard âFeverâ because it sounded like a discarded song from El Camino that got tweaked a little. After listening to the whole album itâs safe to say that âFeverâ is the weakest song on it. Although i prefer the more rougher blues sound there are some quality sounds on this and for me there is a couple of songs that have a slight Pink Floyd feel to them which canât be a bad thing.
Great new style
Listend to the whole albulm this morning on the train to work - wow!! BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR BY A MILE.
Had a lot to live up to after El Camino, but they've done it..a different style of music sounding super cool and flawless.
A great new style for the band, sure to be full of amazing songs.
The Black Keys have taken a very different road to El Camino but still keeping the characteristics of the band. The very mysterious sound of Turn blue is hypnotic in accordance with the cover art! Boooooom!
Good but not quite el camino
I finished listing to the whole thing and can't help feeling that although it's a great album overall, some songs were not very memorable. However, the ones that are memorable are fantastic, the first track on the album is such a good song. Overall the album is far more laid back and grove driven then that of previous Black Keys albums, but that certainly isn't a bad thing!
As with a few people, I was rather shocked by the change in sound after listening to âFeverâ - nonetheless, I warmed to the song (pardon the pun), and after listening to the full album, am completely sold - brilliant! 'The Weight of Loveâ is phenomenal
It just sounds like they've lost the raw aggression they once had. I'm open to change but the difference between this and the likes of Thickfreakness/Big Come Up is quality rather than genre and style. Sack Deadmouse he's a nob. RIP
Over the years the Black Keys have changed, from the stripped back blues of 'The Big Come Up' to Blues Garage Rock of 'Thickfreakness' and 'Rubber Factory' and then a harder rock sound for 'Magic Potion', things got a little bit Psychedelic with 'Attack & Release', the soulful 'Brothers' and then glam/hard rock 'El Camino'. One thing the Black Keys do not do is stand still and keep to one style, but they do keep that integral sound that makes them the Black Keys. While I still pine for another blues inspired album from them in the future we won't be getting one any time soon as they seem to be delving uncharted territory still. Again this album takes very much the psychedelic route evident in songs such as the Pink Floyd's 'Breath'-esque 'Weight Of Love' and 'Bullet In The Brain', although there are a few tracks that wouldn't stand out on El Camino such as the stadium rock 'Fever' - the 'Lonely Boy' singalong song of the album. Overall the album is very enjoyable and a pleasant change to the glam/straight up rock of their last album. The Black Keys have painted another masterpiece with 'Turn Blue' - albeit more abstract then previous works
I like The Black Keys. I like this album. So does Ryan. It is good.
Turn Blue's F**kin Amazing!!!
Absolutely amazing.
Its not El Camino good but its different and it grows on you. Some great tracks.
This is average from the Keys, I'm really disappointed. I enjoy a few tracks off this album but it has to be their worst album to date. I'm all for bands trying new paths in the music, but they've lost their unique raw and bluesy/rock sound that was the Black Keys.
Was unsure about the direction that the black keys had taken with this album, but it is absolutely incredible!
the black keys just never put a foot wrong. the riffs, the lyrics, the electric vibe throughout are just sensational! gotta get away and turn blue are personal favourites but the whole album is incredible. a must buy for any black keys fan! đ
I suppose, from the reviews above, that there are two kinds of Black Keys fans. The ones that were there before, and the ones that came in with Gold On The Ceiling. This album is just more of that mainstream swing-for-the-stands El Camino pap that the older Black Keys would have hated. Unfortunately, El Camino had one song on it worth listening to. Canât find even that one here. Hard to believe Pat Carney believes in the Danger Mouse-era Keys...
Rated as 5 stars since I adore anything the keys touch. For me, this is a return to form after the disappointing El Camino. I would put this album as on par with Brothers - a very good, solid, memorable album. Still not hit the dizzy heights off Rubber Factory but every band has their pinnacle. Also, I think Weight of Love is one of the best song's they've recorded - such a mesmerising song.
fever is ok, it takes a bit of getting used to, turn blue is very different to their normal stuff but surprisingly its still a good listen. but so far the stand out is bullet to the brain! bullet to the brain is a great song even though its different. so far this album could go either way after its released but we will have to wait until may 12th to find out!
One word to describe this album BLINDING !
Having listened to the whole album with an open mind, I like it. It doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to realise that the album is trying to achieve a certain mood/atmosphere captured by the artwork, which in my opinion it has been achieved. My stand-outs are; Weight of Love Bullet in the Brain It's Up to You Now Turn Blue The song I dislike is 'Fever'. Which does give the vibe of alternate electronic pop. I have pre-ordered.
Clicked to listen and preordered it at the same time?! Really enjoying it.
As a big fan, I am disappointed by this new album and to some extent the BK's new style! These two have enormous talent and a special style that I wish will be brought back soon
I really liked this album, like many other people I was slightly worried after the release of Fever and Turn Blue as I thought they had taken a different route. But no, still have some cracking tracks in here. If you like El Camino then thereâs a good chance youâll like this one too. Sure they have changed as a band but they still have the classic Black Keys sound that we all love.
Was very excited when I heard that the Black keys were bringing out a new album. Imagine how disappointed I was when I heard the first two tracks released. What has happened to the Black keys? I guess that they will gain new fans,,but at the same time lose their original ones.
So chilled I really like turn blue and weight of love, so glad this album came out its really helping me through my exams
This is a better album than El Camino, there is more diversity in the songs. I am giving it a five stars as it would be a crime to see garner less stars than El Camino.
