I love how full and powerful the choir and orchestra sound this is one of the best if joy the best recordings of Handel's Messiah there is
What a complete masterpiece. Thank you Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra and Soloists for such a wonderful blend of heavenly sounds. This newly inspired version by Composer/Conductor Wilberg will be cherish by many for years to come. With so many avenues to enjoy this work is a true leap into the future. Without loosing anything from it's roots in the past, It's inspired composer Handel. The fidelity to the prophetic words of the Messiah's life and purpose bring new hope to us all. What a treasured gift to feel and enjoy this Easter Season.
I'm really enjoying listening to this one.
A powerful, spiritual experience.
Love this version so much it is my new favorite. I do wish that it was available with video though!
This is a truly unprecedented, exceptional recording. It has the grandeur of a choir of 360 members combined with the technical mastery, unity, and intimacy one would expect to hear from a choir of much smaller numbers. The Orchestra at Temple Square's performance is flawless playing in true baroque style. The soloists are wonderful. Listening to the final chorus, "Worthy is the Lamb" was nothing short of a marvelous spiritual experience for me. George Frideric Handel would be in awe of such a performance of his great sacred oratorio.
Kudos to Mack Wilberg and his Mormon forces - this recording is actually quite good. There’s fine period style (as much as can be achieved with a choir this large, and in an acoustic this cavernous), the singers are careful with their diction, and the orchestral playing demonstrates a curious cognizance of period style. Sure, there are moments where it’s the aural equivalent of a hippo en pointe, but that would be the case with any choir this size. In fact, if it wants for anything, it’s a little more oomph from the choir (and trust me, I never thought I’d be saying that). Those are quibbles - you could do a lot worse than this recording. Congrats to everyone involved!
I have several recordings of "Messiah," including the London Philharmonic, The Academy of Ancient Music, and the two previous Tabernacle Choir recordings. In my opinion, this is the best of the bunch and quite possibly the best ever.
I love Handel's Messiah and have listened to many versions of it over the years. This is now my most favorite. It is worth the price!
