I think this might be my favorite album of hers - these sparse arrangements really lets her sultry voice shine ❤️
Simply Amazing!!
This album has everything that I want from Norah: beautiful, poetic lyrics; instrumentals that show the power of the piano to make you feel and move in a way that jazz influences can alongside with some fun, interesting flourishes of other sounds; gorgeous backing vocals used in some of the songs. The harmonies on This Life are beautiful. _________________ Top Tracks: To Live 🔸I’m Alive 🔸Say No More 🔸Were You Watching 🔸Heaven Above _________________ TO LIVE: “To live in this moment and finally be free is what I was after / No chains holding me” I’M ALIVE: “I care a lot / I know the things I'm not / It's alright, it's OK / And it's not / Maybe things will change” SAY NO MORE: “Take the bullet out of that gun / I'll bare you my soul / Everything you want to know / Swallow me up whole” WERE YOU WATCHING: “Were you hiding when our love was in the deepest danger? / Were you watching as we slowly turned into strangers?” HEAVEN ABOVE: “I was mistaken when I thought we could have it all / We can see what we wanna see before we have to fall”
I am a melancholy person and this was too melancholy for me

This has got to be the best album that Norah Jones has done in years and I have everything she's ever done. This is as close to her first 2 albums that she ever been in a long time, which to me are the best 2 albums that she has ever done. I really like the idea she had of collborating with multiple artists , most of whom she has worked with in the past, those who know her style and I like he way that it sounds new but also sounds like classic Norah Jones. her vocals and piano playing are perfect and beautiful as ever. 5 Stars because I Love Norah Jones!
I've been a huge fan for years. but this CD lacks something I almost fell asleep sampling it.
Trash
I write this as someone who considers himself a major fan of Norah Jones and her music. While I can’t say that any of these songs are low quality — her vocals and the musicianship is stellar as always — there really isn’t anything here that would warrant repeated, consistent listening and playbacks, at least not for me. In my opinion, the best song on here is “Say No More.” It has a catchiness and a feeling of completeness that the others on this album don’t really possess. It feels the most like the Norah many of us know and love; the fact it was written by her longtime friend Sarah Oda doesn’t surprise me. I’ve loved Norah ever since I heard her sing “Wurlitzer Prize” with Willie Nelson; I just had to know who she was. I love all her albums, from Come Away With Me all the way through to Little Broken Hearts. She lost me somewhat with Day Breaks and the EP Begin Again, but this album is the first time I feel like she’s almost lost me completely. By no means am I saying I hate the direction she’s taken or any of the songs — like I said, she’s always fantastic to listen to — but nothing she’s done lately in her solo career has spoken to me like her prior work has. Nothing has really grabbed me by the heart, soul, or mind since Little Broken Hearts. The frustrating part is I can’t really articulate why, at least not in specifics that she’d be able to use going forward in her career. What I can say, though, is Norah’s collaborative work remains fantastic. If you’re one of those dissatisfied with this album but still want to hear Norah’s voice and musicianship at work, I’d highly advise you to invest in the latest Puss n Boots album Sister, which dropped earlier this year. That album is outstanding from first track to last track, and Norah absolutely sizzles on it along with Sasha Dobson and Catherine Popper. It’s fun, it’s catchy, and it will absolutely grab you, shake you, and make you think and feel things. I doubt Norah or anyone close to her will ever read this, but just in case, I apologize for the criticism and really don’t mean this as any sort of attack. I still love you, your voice, and your musicianship, and far be it from me to tell you how to do what you do. All I intend with this review is just give you my honest insight into how I’ve viewed and processed your music to this point. While this entry and the last couple haven’t spoken to me as much, that doesn’t mean I’m not still a fan, and I have every belief you’ll put out a lot more music that will captivate me like your past albums — and collaborative works — have done.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Norah has never got close to matching her debut album. I have tried to get into the music since but it’s just missing the magic. What she needs is songwriters who write amazing music for her instrument, her voice. Putting out albums with non memorable songs is just hurting her career.
The last two sample songs are good, but the first song is her worst ever. It’s a skipper. I will anxiously wait for the rest of the album, and if lucky, maybe this leadoff track will be replaced.
Just booooooo
Norah Jones manages to maintain her unique style and innovate at the same time. The songs are refreshing and yet carry influences from the previous albums, which makes her so consistent with her creative process. She offers great ballads here, some broken heart pieces, slightly jazz, slightly country and slightly folk, with a nice pop vibe with, not surprisingly, great, catchy lyrics. This is joyful and very delightful to listen to! ❤️
Finally a music artist leaves the overproductions of the last blah blah studio's and creates poetry and melody and intimacy.
I went to sleep listening to this🥱
I Love You Norah Jones...
Hurts to be Alone & I'm Alive are the best songs on the album.
She’s been on my mind since 2002 and prior to that. Interesting character and moods that I can handle during this traumatic time with the supposed mundane COVID-19 outbreaks though I am still unafraid of listening to her. Thanks Norah With sincerity, ❤️Eric Gross
Artists change! At least the good ones do. No one stays the same forever and that’s the best thing about music, it’s constantly evolving. This album from Norah Jones is incredible and everyone giving one star reviews probably listens to “Sunrise” once a month and calls themselves a fan. This album also features gusts spots from Brian Blade and Jeff Tweedy, last time I checked those musicians don’t show up on 1 star records.
The gnocchi any
A girl with a familiar voice sitting at a piano with a few friends. Not over-produced pop. Beautiful it it’s simplicity.
Oh, God completely awful stuff. Unlistenable. Snorah Jones wake up and smell up the coffe.
Norah continues to grow as a songwriter and this album is a huge reflection of her increasing strength in that arena. Probably her most personal and passionate album to date. The music is still very jazz-influenced, but a lot of these songs have a contemporary pop twist that give you the sense Norah is really coming into her own, finding her own identity and forging her own sound. I can’t stop listening.
My goodness....what's with this "album"? I thought I was buying music, but this is a bunch of songs with no melody. I dare anyone to try to hum along! Sorry, Norah, but I want melodious music; songs that don't all sound exactly the same. This doesn't even sound like it's from a professional musician. It sounds like me messing around on the piano, and I don't play the piano! If it takes relying on your friends for songs, Norah, PLEASE do it! Give Jesse a call! This is ridiculous and disappointing. I feel cheated and made a fool of.
Just awful. Hurts to listen.
Maybe a pandemic year isn’t a good year to release an album. This is another no rhythm dud I’ve heard so far. Songs are slow, but don’t have that classic jazz undertone of her past slower songs. There isn’t any up tempo tunes either. It feels like the pandemic in music form.
Haunting and Beautiful
Wow! So much talent and power behind this woman’s words. I’m a new and forever loyal fan and waiting to hear more. Thank you for bringing so much authenticity back to ‘real’ music.
❤️
The good news is that Norah's voice is still breathtaking in every way. And you still have her previous work which is stunningly timeless. The bad news is that these songs are just not very good. They feel unfinished and they tend to ramble aimlessly looking for some direction. The sound of her voice initially gives you hope until you realize the lyrics do not go anywhere and the music then struggles for direction that never comes.
So happy to have a new music from Norah Jones. I love this song.

good music relaxing
Her voice along with her wonderful ability to play piano makes for a cool ride into song land. Nice to see an artist be an artist.
Norah always blesses us with wonderful whimsical musical journeys however, sometimes she seems to run out of gas (inspiration)- I think it’s because she preferred the immediate feedback of an audience. This time.... this time she doubled down and went with an OUTSTANDING producer, Charlie Peacock who had helped her previously and just as then, this time Mr. Peacock, her wonderful accompanists and muse(s) project an air of honest, soul filled, almost worshipful with some almost perfect reality checks that seem to reflect the spirit once shared on Begin Again. This is honest, beautiful and touching. You share her journey and will surely help you on your own. Isn’t that what “Music” is supposed to be about? Expressing the soul and spirit of our travels through humanity over the years. Thank you for this reflection NJ.
