As soundtracks to epic movies go, this one doesn't dissapoint. The real gems though are the songs sung by Robin Wright-Penn. I honestly expected to see a singer's name listed as the artist and was pleasantly surprised to see that Robin sang the songs herself. Her voice is gentle and wavers a bit, the voice of a mortal not a goddess, but all the more pleasant for that reason. The sparse arrangements compliment her raw voice perfectly.Those 2 songs alone make the album worth owning. The song that could have been left off is Idina Menzel's version of A Hero Comes Home. I know Wicked fans think she can do no wrong, but honestly I don't see how Idina is any different than other women performing in musicals. The arrangement of the song is so generic, as is her delivery. The sing-songy voice and words that seem sung though a perpetual smile might work on Broadway, but on this soundtrack it seems completely out of place and for lack of better words CORNY. The song comes off as a Celine Dion/Sarah Brightman hybrid in the worst possible way.

Okay, when I heard Beowulf was going to be made, I though great. I though it could live up to my expectations. Nope. Then I read that it was going to be CG!!!!! Why in hell would you do Beowulf in freakin' CG with the technology today!!!!!! Do it in live-action, then add Grendel and Dragon in with the computer, not the entire movie!!!!!!! By the way, Grendel and Ma are ridiculous -- totally overblown in fantasy and not the true mythology of the story!!! All right, I'm done griping about the movie, now to the soundtrack. This is very dissapointing. I heard a snippet of the fight with the dragon on Ebert & Roeper and thought: "Whoa, this could be some good music." Not entirely. The score goes along with 300 and Troy in utter disappointments and complete wannabes! They try too hard to be the next Howard Shore masterpiece, when in all honesty, Alan Silvestri's music here is hogwash. Now, I did like some of the tracks, but otherwise this whole film (and music) is a complete missed opportunity. This is Beowulf. Not Shrek. Do it in live-action so that we can see these one-demensional characters. Listen to the tracks individually, then decide if you want to pay the 15 bucks for it. Anway, the film bombs in expectations and film score.

Decent enough soundtrack, but $14.99 for the same theme repeated over and over is way too much. $9.99 would get this album another star. Maybe not a fair assessment of the music, but you have to consider the package. Bad show, iTunes.

I don't see why you people keep dissing this soundtrack because of the price! Sure it is over expensive but don't use that as an excuse to rate the soundtrack badly! Retards! Anyway this is a very good soundtrack. It is not the best and not quite worth the 15 bucks but it is very enjoyable. It is perfect music for the movie and epic poem. The best tracks are: What we need is a hero, I did not win the race, Second Grendel Attack, I Am Beowulf, Full of Fine Promises, Beowulf Slays the Beast, The Final Seduction, and A Hero Comes Home (end credits version). The Hero Comes Home song was incredible! One of the greastest end credits songs ever! Overall if you are a soundtrack fan, think of getting this but you might want to find it cheaper somewhere else.

It's a good soundtrack but the movie was terrible. It was too ridiculous and most of the time I was thinking "are you serious?" It had nothing to do with the book (which is far better). But the soundtrack is good.

Beowulf is AWESOME!

I just saw the movie, and it was a great one! The animation was incredible! The music and graphics were out of this world. I recomend you see this movie ASAP, and see it in a Imax!

If they did one thing right in that train-wreck of a movie, it was the music. Pretty good score, I like the Main Title particularly. So yes, don't let the dark cloud that is the movie overshadow your opinion of the music, give it a fighting chance.

Lets be frank, this is overpriced. I buy high end files from Apple from big name bands for $9.99 for the entire album. I do not think that the price is in any way justified. I dropped a star from my rating as a result. As for the music, it does a lot for the film. I really enjoyed it, but it is an aquired taste. Some of the songs are more of a Score as opposed to a Sound track. Translated: it was composed to accompany specific points in the film and sometimes does not appear as a stand alone work very well. If you like to understand the relationship between movie and music, or like that style this is a wonderfull album. If you do not like that idea I would advise you to get individual songs. That said I like "The Seduction" and the "Beowulf Main Title" the best. Good album overall and a good quality recording. Sad that the studio got so greedy with the pricing.

While I love buying from iTunes, I really don't get why soundtracks have to be so expensive. I'm with the others. I'll buy it from BestBuy.

I give this soundtrack 5 stars ONLY because of IDINA MENZEL!!! The movie s.u.c.k.s, the soundtrack s.u.c.k.s. Idina is the only saving grace on this album!!! She truly is WICKED!!!

I would say that the 'What we need is a hero' is the best.

First Transformers, now Beowulf. Dear Apple, there are resons why we buy mp3s, and saving money is one of them. It's convenient to buy music online but we all know they come in lower sound quality. Cut down these prices before people WALK AWAY. Give me ONE REASON not to pick that up at a store instead. KEEP IT REAL.

Beowulf was a great movie and it does have a good soundtrack, I would give it a five if it wasn't too expensive.

The Idina fans are way overblowing this tune. It is easily her cheesiest, hokey-chokey work, ever. She is far better than this schlockfest piece of "typical" epic movie ending music. The music and lyrics are laughable, and the engineers allowed her to sound terribly nasally and overly "poppy". The rest of the soundtrack is completely unremarkable with the exception of a few moments. A very disappointing showing for Alan Silvestri (the guy who gave us Back to the Future for God's sake!!! lol). And to further express the shock over pricing...I'll agree...Apple, what is the deal!? This is the second soundtrack (as a collector) that I've gone on to purchase from Amazon for less than here. Where did $9.99 go???? You have a lot of courage asking the retail, CD price for a, technically, lesser quality/compressed format that is bogged down in DRMs. Shame on you!!!

i justy came back from the movie, also, i was impressed by how they made a great soundtrack for a great movie. to me, its tied with 300 for the greatest movie of all time!

I'm a sucker for big epic Hollywood scores. the bigger more bombastic the better! Without thinking, I went ahead and bought this album and it's horrible. Totally uninspired, nothing memorable and repetitive. Get the “300” score instead

It reminds me of 300. But this score is good and so is the movie. I think Tracks 1 and 4 are my favorite. The album is a little pricey, but it is worth buying. And you haven't seen the movie, till u see it in 3D. THAT was cool.

Epic soundtrack for an epic movie.

Great, great soundtrack. But don't buy it here until it comes down to at least 9.99. You can get it used for cheaper but in mint condition. Heck, get a new one for this price- but at least you'll have your own hard copy.

I was not really impressed with this sound track, it didn't feel like an epic to me. It should have been more hard rock, etc. For me the music did not fit the movie like it should have! On another note! To all those idiots out there that think Apple is trying to scam you by making music more expensive, Go educate yourself and quit complaining..!! Itune's gets the rights to sell this music from the record companies! I bet they have a lot of say in pricing, since it's theirs, and APPLE had to struggle with them to bring you this service! And stop complaining about the Transformers soundtrack, that is an amazing creation, let alone it has nothing to do with this soundtrack, or artist! Like any smart business, they mark up the song by a few cents to cover the cost, rights and any other fees / expenses they may face; then they pocket a few "pennies" for profit! They do not make a fortune of the single song you buy, they do over the thousands and millions of songs "we" all buy! OK, well I went to see the movie hoping that it would be as good as it looked on T.V. and I was less than impressed. I left in the middle of it. It was the weirdest movie that I ever have seen and the graphics in it were really gross. It's rated PG-13, it should be R. Yeah, the soundtrack is stupid... Don't buy it...

I would have given this album a mere 3 stars, because this album isn't good at all. The movie was decent, but this is a PRETTY bad album! But, I gave it a full 5 stars because of Idina Menzel's "A Hero Comes Home" which is (obviously) the best song on here!!! Not Idina's best song, but DEFINITELY not her worst!! She doesn't really have a 'worst song'. Anyways....get Idina's song!!! You will love it!!!

I really liked the soundtrack of this movie because it added a lot to the entire feel of the film. However I would never pay full price for an album purchased in iTunes because I don't actually get a CD. I would gladly pay 13.99 for this CD at a retail store and I believe it would be a much better deal. My suggestion to iTunes is that they continue to keep the price of new albums at 9.99 or less, unless the albums are in high-quality format.

i am a bodybuilder & martial artist and use a few of these tracks for my training.tracks 1, & 4 are one of the best scores i've ever heard and they are intense,powerful,will get you in "the zone"----great for a fight/ battle.movie was excellent too, but even if you never seen it, i would get at least these 2 tracks, it will bring out the warrior in you!

This was released three years ago and it's still $15!? I love this album but will not buy it from iTunes because it's over priced. Two words: competitive pricing.

Okay i saw this movie not to long ago and i thought it was awesome. The music is the best by far. The tracks Gently As She Goes and A Hero Comes Home are the best. I love that kind of music so I was glad that it was put into such an action packed movie. The graphics were amazing. When Beowulf sweat it looked like it was real!

The movie impressed me (because I went in with low expectations) and other than historical inaccuracies and hollywood's need to put love-triangles in everything I thought it a decent movie. But the soundtrack hit me right away. I'm a sucker for the epic and the graceful and I'm a very picky listener. And NOT just because Idina Menzel does the credit song!

The only piece of music that I really enjoyed was "The Seduction" and "The Last Seduction." Reminds me of Silvestri's early work, and was really what made the scene so great with Angelina Jolie coming out of the water. It fits the scene beautifully.

I thought the movie was good. The music blew me away. BUT, $15 isnt worth it, I thoroughly enjoyed Idina's song and a few songs here and there. In my opinion, you would be better off choosing the songs u like and buying them individualy. =)

To put it simply, Beowulf kicks A**!!! I have read the book. Loved it. Saw the movie. Loved it. Heard the music. Loved it. I don't care if it is 14.99, it is worth every penny!

Well, no offense, but I didn't at all listened to the whole album. I was focused on only one of them- THE END CREDITS VERSION OF A HERO COMES HOME!!!! Idina's vocals are FABULOUS in the song!!! WE LOVE YOU, IDINA!!!!
