Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

About Random Access Memories by Daft Punk Album

Random Access Memories is the fourth and final studio album by French electronic music duo Daft Punk. It was released by Daft Life under exclusive license to Columbia Records on May 17, 2013 in Australia, May 20, 2013 in the United Kingdom and on May 21, 2013 in the United States. Work started on the record concurrently with the Tron: Legacy score, without a clear plan as to what its structure would be. Shortly after Daft Punk signed with Columbia, a gradual promotional rollout began for the album including billboards, television advertising and a web series. Random Access Memories pays tribute to the late 1970s and early 80s era of music in the United States, particularly the sound of Los Angeles recordings of the period. Daft Punk recorded the album largely using live instrumentation with session musicians, and limited the use of electronics to drum machines, a modular synthesizer and vintage vocoders. The album also features collaborations with Panda Bear, Julian Casablancas, Todd Edwards, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Giorgio Moroder, Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams and Pharrell Williams. Critical reception to the album has generally been positive. This production won Grammy's Album of the Year in 2013, Record for the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Get Lucky", Best Dance/Electro Album & Best Engineered Album (non-classical).

I love it keep making more music and also never stop

- my favorite album of all time :)

when daft punk released their fourth and final studio album, i immediately loved it. the guests had me initially excited for the album, julian cascablancas of the strokes, panda bear of animal collective, paul williams, dj falcon, todd edwards, chilly gonzales, nile rodgers, and pharrell. an amazing guest list with some excellent song writers and performers. at first, this album was a bit too long for me, but after listens and listens, along with it helping me through the worst times of my life, it grew to overtake eminem's "the marshall mathers lp" as my favorite album of all time. for 8 years, i waited for a new album. im absolutely devastated by the news. daft punk forever. also, instant crush is the best song of all time.

Bought the album six years ago and still my top 3 throughout the year.......

- One of the best albums of all time.

Daft Punk forever.

- Destined for a shopping mall near you…

Sometimes an album comes along that sets the standard in production, innovation, arrangement and composition. Let me back up, rarely is there an album that ticks all these boxes in this day and age but Daft Punks "Random Access Memory" is indeed that record. In short it's a masterpeice and the more I listen to it the more I peal back the layers and learn about what this album is about. Many in the industry have said "albums" are dead and it's about the single, no one listens to albums anymore... Thank god Daft Punk didn't listen and created this work of genius. It's been almost 5 years since it's release and all I can say is I hope this isn't their last full length artist album becuase this duo continues to grow and progress in the most interesting ways. They have set the bar high and are industry leaders who have created a high standard for other artists to aim for. Viva Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter!

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 25 (2020)

- Contact

Let’s hope that I am getting through to the reader of this review. Contact is the best song that daft punk has written and ever will write (if they still are writing songs) I think that this deserves 10/5 stars. Yep that’s right. It means 200% good.

- I don't get it

How did this got album of the year? I'm puzzled. While the album is not bad and we have all different tastes, Taylor's album Red certainly is one of the most mature and innovative I've ever seen in music from a female singing in the country genre while appealing to mainstream listeners.

- Daft Punk are the reigning champs of EDM

This is an amazin album....like all their other albums....in my personal opinion. Daft punk are the kings of EDM, there are none higher!

- BRILLIANT!

Bloody hell these two gentlemen do it again! What a great album!

- One of the best

I never paid much attention to electronic music until a few years ago, and now this album is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a perfect album, and totally deserving of any and all praise it and The Robots receive. 1million/10

- Best song

It’s like it’s the only song in the world because my ears won’t stop listening.

- !

who’s here after they split?

- Simply Brilliant.

Daft Punk please make a new album already. It’s been Too Long. Don’t let the music become a Random Access Memory. They release a new album in like once every 8 years or so, but it’s well worth the wait. Unlike other artists who pretend to be prolific and release dated music for the hit machine, these guys have longevity because they are meticulous and perfectionists when it comes to their art and music. No compromises on their musical integrity; they are definitely Human After All.

- Horrible

Horrible terrible noise made on a child’s keyboard

- GOAT

I'm gonna go ahead and proclaim it : 100% The Album of the Decade

- One of my Favorites

I almost never write reviews, but this is one of my favorite albums of all time. The greatest songs are Contact, Touch, and Doin' it Right.

- Best artists group of all time!!!

Rip DAFTPUNK you’ll be always in our playlist don’t let the music stop and one more time let’s gooo

- Instant Crush

The album is solid. But Instant Crush is such a musical masterpiece that it makes the whole album worthy of 5 stars.

- What a great album!

There are no words to describe this perfect album. The moment the very first note hits on “Give Life Back to Music”, you know you are in for a treat. Must listen!!

- A great R&B like wonder

This album has to be the best R&B album because it feels like your in the 70's or 80's.

- ❤️

❤️

- Now Their Last Bow, a Masterpiece Forever

This album slaps. Not a bad track. Sad there won’t be a new one. It’d be hard to top this one, too.

- Gonna be a classic!!

Such a good album so much more original and more effort put Into it that most of the horrible music around nowadays

- Random Access Memories

This album will go down in history as a a great album of this decade. Master musicians combine with some talented vocals.

- AMAZING

So good to listen to when doing work

- I don't know what to think…

I understand that they have a new sound and are trying to be unique, but it just feels weird. It's funky, but it's not Daft Punk funky. They could have at least done some awesome alternative/electro beats. I like some songs, but it's not funky enough for me :(

- Daft Funk

This is a good album, it just didn't quite live up to the hype... With 'Get Lucky' showing so much promise, I expected more from this album. Having said that, there are some great tracks on this album (would've liked a few more like 'Contact').

- Average

Way over hyped and can get very annoying at times, just sayins is all!

- More or less perfect

For what it is… this is simply amazing! Blending 70s funk and soul with modern edge this in my opinion is Daft’s best album as a whole. Key tracks like the ever popular summer track “Get Lucky” and the nostalgic ballad “Instant Crush” standout as instant classics. Take note of Giorgio by Moroder, it pays tribute to the pioneer Giorgio Moroder responsible for many soundtracks to everyones favourite films

- This rocks!

Very impressive tracks, well worth the wait.

- A not so Daft Punk

Love track 3 the best :)

- Its ok

I would probly buy this album but only later down the track in the $10 bin at the record store only if i had spare $10

- Still beautiful and punk in 2015 ;)

Great tracks man just great never get bored quality is top level.

- Yeah

I love the album, I hope they do more songs with pharrel in the near future

- Daft punk is dead!

Very disappointed with this album. I bought this because I wanted a Daft Punk album, what I got was a trashy French cafe pop mix-up of ill fitting tracks. If I had wanted that I would have bought a Kitsúne compilation. Get lucky is a great track but the rest... Meh. When listening back through past albums I ask myself, what happened to daft punk? What are they thinking? How do they sleep at night? Are their mothers proud of what they have done??

- Giving Life Back to Music

Random Access Memories is Daft Punk's way of taking a jab at the current state of the EDM movement and its apparent monotony. It oozes with brilliance and good old fashioned groove that I haven't heard in music since the duo's previous work, "Discovery". RAM feels organic and bursting with life, which is kind of ironic given the artists are robots. In my honest opinion, this is the best album of 2013 by far.

- As a Daft Punk fan...

This album initally didn't interest me. It was a very bold and different album from the elctro duo compared to their previous works, and I didn't conform to the change of pace too well. However... as I learnt later, this album also requires multiple listens to really appreciate it. The result is taking something from the 80's disco stage and remodelling it with a modern look and feel; in other words, this is freaking awesome music. I feel like this work is something that will be looked at in greater light as time goes by. They truly did went back to go forward.

- Disco's revenge!!

One of the few albums this year I've been genuinely excited about buying. Not too many duds here.

- Daft Funk

That's what I always used to call them, and now it truly fits. Bring life back to music indeed.

- ...

After hearing get lucky I was anticipating this album and couldn't wait for the release date. The music and sounds are stunning and unique, then these beautiful tracks are ruined by that mind stabbing awful robot voice... Whhhhyyyyy especially the amazing tracks titled "within" and "instant crush". Imagine those tracks with some smooth vocals especially with so many amazing and different vocal talent in this world. So disappointed. I'm currently looking for some great covers of these songs replacing that robot voice, any suggestions?

- Great start, poor follow up

All of the songs have really good openings, unfortunately only a few have strong lyrics and long term listen-ability.

- Great Music

Never really buy albums and didn't know much about these guys but it was totally worth it! Fantastic stuff! Recommend!

- Album of the YEAR

Great album and great performers so good to see them at the grammys my heros till i die and most deserved album of the year great stuff please make another album

- Great Album

Awesome album Contact one of the best songs

- Get Not Lucky

What you have to buy the whole album to get "get lucky" - one star

- Daft Punked

Originally approaching this record there was a pre-conceived expectation set from both the commercial push and the underground reaction immediately following the release. At the crack of the needle to it's fresh vinyl surface those preconceived expectations instantly disappear - I knew immediately I was listening to DAFT PUNK 2.0. The first track takes you by a pleasant surprise, 'Give Life Back To Music' makes it's immediate start with classic daft punk sounds grooving along with multiple new levels of sound that at first, are unexplainable, but are quickly recognised as just 'real' instruments. The first song is extremely important to the album's intention. It's title, 'Give Life Back To Music' speaks volumes to those sympathetic with the death of human music and the recent reign of the 'electronic era' - of which some people might claim was inspired by Daft Punk themselves. Regardless of their history as Electronic geniuses anyone with a musical bone in their body will find an incredible feeling of both relieve and euphoria as you listen to the comfortable harmony that Daft Punk have created between Human and Electronic Music in this album. This incredible feeling that you are hit with at the drop of the needle establishes itself heavily within the first two tracks and maintains itself all the way through to the end. 'Giorgio by Moroder' takes a more unpredictable Daft Punk turn. We're introduced as a generation so detached from those great who walked before us. Their choice to showcase the electronic genius, Giorgio, very intimately through a voice over narration is greatly complimented by the build of the song. The live drum work from John 'JR' Robinson throughout the album is outstanding but particularly the building in this song. This old-school-done-new track, Moroder arpeggiators rocking out with blues guitar and all is an absolute winner. 'Within' takes the form of a different key, appropriately, breaking the album up in terms of mood not just sound. The emotional vocoder attempts to come to terms with the unexplainable world he lives in. Chilly Gonzales on the Piano really creates a musical journey for the vocoded lyrics to be followed correctly. By the time 'Get Lucky' begins I've become so enticed in the album that the classically Daft Punk tune, with both it's commercial beating and relentless promotional rape, fits in perfectly. After some not so sampled songs and not as repetitive lyrics it makes sense to have this track take control where it does. There was only a sense of funky, pure groovy love and a genuine urge to get up and dance out what I'd just taken in. 'Fragments Of Time', straight away, undoubtedly brings me to bands I grew up with. 'Supertramp' is the most audible reference. Todd Edwards' lyrics and voice hit home, and bring the more 'band' like song to it's peak. The appropriately spaced out 'country like' guitar work, simple drums and dashing synth lines bring this track up to the favourites. The final track that speaks out is 'Contact'. It takes a fairly different, more experimental approach, as orchestral and synthesised riffs progress as if to imitate the arrival or departure of someone or something epic. This track brings the listener back to 'Daft Punk: Tron Legacy' if anything. The cinematic intention of the song works perfectly as an ending to the album, appropriately bringing this musical marvel to a close. Slipping this now loved vinyl back in it's fresh cover is difficult. The record is placed alongside the very best of my collections and with a beautiful feeling of restored faith in human music I'm left thankful, once again. The legendary duo that'll never seize to amaze us, keeps us not 'hearing' music but 'listening' to it. Thank you, Daft Punk.

- Price down please!

Price down please!

- Daft Punk's done it.

This album... It is.... Perfect. I loved Discovery and Homework, and Human After All and Alive 2007 was so unique and perfect so, I was so excited! I bought the CD and the VINYL! Probably the best album if 2013. But seriously, get over Get Lucky. It's not even their best song on the album, let alone their career...

- One of the world's greatest

Fantastic vocals bass, drums, guitar etc. The best quality of music you will ever get and if these songs are played on a superb sound system, I tell you it is like pitch perfect! All in all fantastic album combined with great instruments, especially the guitar is out of this world!

- llessah

I bought this album looking for some dance tracks to liven the party but it just put everyone too sleep!!

- They've Changed

Daft Punk have moved on. They are no longer an innovative dance/electronic duo that use words. They now sound more like a funk group than the edm that they should

- Wow

I think this album is great and my favourite one yet

- Refreshing

At first I hated the album. But then after a few weeks, I gave it another chance, listening through the complete album while on a long road trip. Definitely has a very Pink Floyd feel about it

- Middling towards good

Look, it's got some nice poppy tunes on it, but it's hardly a stroke of genius. I feel I want to like it more than I do, but it's just a bit to hollow feeling to reel me in. It hasn't got the feel of say discovery that, especially when you watch interstella 5555, really gets you feeling.

- Lose yourself to………this!

I can't get enough of these genius beats. My 9 year old is feeling them too!

- You just got Punked!

Had this album for a week. It's an album that has teased me, excited me & keeps me coming back for more. It's a rock opera, it's a musical odyssey, reminiscent of PF The Wall. Definitely worth the wait.

- Gay

<3 miss the old daft punk

- Within is the best!

Title says it all, this is the best album ever recorded in history!

- Always makes me smile

A little softer than some past work - but I think very clever, some beautiful sounds, and the album always makes me smile regardless of mood. This is a great piece of work and refreshing. Easy listening should always be this good.

- They're Back !

This is the Daft Punk I fell in love with in the early 90's, I love this album ! This type of music will never grow old even if I am starting to get there :-)

- Realising audio magic

A great achievement. Every listen never fails to make me feel better.

- Overrated

Very overrated album one track doeth not make an album

- sounds better on vinyl

this is a awesome album and sounds even better on vinyl

- Amazing

Anyone who doesn't like this album is just closed minded, it's amazing :D

- Awesome

There's some top tracks here....Get Lucky....lose yourself to dance...plus a few more... The Discovery Album will never be bested....this new album is still tops and any daft fan shall love it

- Awesome!

One word. Wow.

- Know them didnt love em until now

Early memories of Rick Wakeman and Jean Michelle Jarre, Floyd, Midge Ure and Alan Parsons etc etc. have brought me to this album with MANY preconceptions of what it 'might' be like. Well I feel it's like all.. but none.. and wonderfully reminiscent yet fresh. Top 3 pruchases this year. Love it

- Awesome

i realy love this if anyone would like it

- Wasn't what I was expecting, but maybe that's a good thing.

First off, I stopped listening to Daft Punk two years ago, with the release of Tron: Legacy. That album was TRUELLY terrible; it was dull, and there was only one half decent song. I expected this album to be Discovery II, but I was wrong; this is so much more than that. This album has re-written my whole view on the Daft Punk story, and their musical style. They've always been good with funk, and with this one they've ramped it up a lot. Notable songs include "Lose Yourself to Dance", "Get Lucky", "Touch", "Fragments of Time", and "Give Life Back to Music". I would have liked to hear more of those sweet robotic voices and guitar solos, like in Discovery. This isn't their best album; but it's pretty damned close to it.

- Grows on you... Big time.

I'm a Daft Punk fan but when I first heard a couple of songs I wasn't in a rush to buy the album. But the more I got out and heard it the more I got used to it. Then I bought and look out... Hot album, loving it now. My god they're good!

- Worst album i have ever heard!!!

I have no idea how this has 4.5 stars, wow, it is actually terrible and nothing like daft punks GOOD music, WHAT HAPPENED!!!

- DAFT PUNK!!!!
