Tall, handsome, and a stellar voice. This is one album not to miss. His style, and interpretation of every song in this album is spot on. What a wonderful era for great tenors!

A must-have album for any lover of 20th century German-language operetta. Kaufmann’s styling of these songs from the 1920’s and ’30’s is spot-on; it’s clear from the photo and from the video performances in this album that he intends to capture the sound of a pop radio-crooner of that era, and he does so wonderfully, while still retaining a trained vocal style. Kaufmann also doesn’t just cover the usual old chestnuts of Lehar and Kalman, but adds operetta and movie musical songs not well known to international audiences by such composers as Werner R. Heymann, Paul Abraham, Ralph Benatzky and Eduard Künneke. Interestingly and somewhat confusingly, he also includes Korngold’s “Glück, das mir verblieb” from “Die Tote Stadt”, which is outside the operetta repertoire. I won’t hold that against him. This is an album to listen to again and again.
