I love this song!!
Great album here, but the song "Perfect Lover" is missing from it, and I would like the album a lot more if the song was on here. Why it isn't here escapes me.
I only have one thing to say: I own this album and The Pinnacle, The Devil Game, and Closet Chronicles aren't on the CD? But Perfect Lover is.
This cd has excellent vocals and music. In my opion this band is one of the best seventies band.
i loved this albluma nd i loved doing kansas' music for my highschool band performance. completely awesome...this is a must buy!
I've got the original version of this album, containing "Perfect Lover," which frankly I thought was the weakest song on the disc. Other than that, this album is incredibly strong. The oft-mentioned "Dust In the Wind," "Carry On Wayward Son," and "Point Of Know Return" are excellent. Just as good to me, though, was "Play The Game Tonight" from the album Vinyl Confessions. And "Song For America" is a great story as well as a great song. One other thing I loved about this album. At least on the original version, the cover art had elements from most if not all of the groups previous album covers. On the front (and what you see on iTunes), you have John Brown from the debut album (that cover itself a reproduction of the John Brown mural found in the Kansas Capitol Building), the stage / theater from Two For The Show, and the boat going over the edge of water from Point Of Know Return. The back cover had the chair from Vinyl Confessions, on which sat the quill and inkwell from Leftoverture. And the signboard with the order of songs was held in place by the eagle from Song For America. A great piece of creativity to tie the project together visually.
Kansas is pretty good
Kansas has some really good songs. I remember seeing them in the 80's at an outdoor concert and this big storm kicked up and the lightning cracked just as the violin solo started and it really was dust in the wind! That was awesome! I especially LOVE how they incorporate the violin into the music-very classy! I would be all for a new album with more violin solos-kind of like Jimmy Page when he took the bow across the guitar strings in Kashmir! TOO COOL!!
This album is one of the best I've ever heard. All of their songs have great meanings and morals. Now some of the meanings and morals aren't what you would call "heavenly" but they mean something. I like how some of their songs have a classical feel to them, for instance dust in the wind has violin in it and that really adds to the song. I also like how there is great oregan and piano in Carry On My Wayward Son, and Point of Know Return. My favorite songs in the album are Carry On My Wayward Son, Point of Know Return, Fight Fire With Fire, Dust In the Wind, and Song for America. The album could be better if they included Perfect Lover though. People always like to compare Kansas with Journey, Which I think isn't right. Their music has a different feel to it. Kansas music has a classical rock feel to it and they play their music great. Dust in the wind is a beautiful song it has great achoustics and a violin. Carry On My Wayward Son was the first kansas song I ever heard so it has something that the others do not. Carry On My Wayward Son has amazing vocals, awesome guitars, and some pretty fantastic piano. Point of Know Rreturn has great oregan solos, and vocals. Fight Fire With Fire has a message not what a priest would say but a message. So over all I think this album is great. Kansas is a true rock band.
point of no return most excellent good jammin
I ADORE this album. I have loved it since the first time I heard it, and it still brings me back. I bought the tape again at a pawn shop, but really needed it on my ipod. I just love listening to this album, all the greats!
This was a personal must have. Ironically, while listening to this collection on my stero in my car, my 10 year old son in the backseat perked up and asked who the heck I was listening to. I told him that Kansas was a favotite of mine from when I was his age. He practically begged me to put this on his IPOD. 30 years of age differnce melted away just like that. Classic bands are just that. CLASSIC!!!
great band + great songs = great album
Really good song. I love it. I think its on Guitar hero 3. Good lyrics 2.
i like it its just alittle soft
They don't have groups like this any longer - Kansas, Nazareth and Stix. Absolute talent and great sound.
This CD is amazing! It starts out with their most known hit, Carry on my Wayward Son, and end it with a leser known song, Closet Chronicles.(Which is live by the way, if you put the voulume up at the beggining you will hear seagulls and clapping) I love this band and its music. If you like classic or 70's to 80's rock, this should be an automatic buy.
At first i only got the album for one song but when i starte to listen to all of the songs it became one of my favivorite bands.
I would like to start by saying that Kansas is kinda good, but Wayward Son is seriously awesome! But, Kansas and Journey are completly different! Kansas is more mellow and country, while Journey has a more 80s pop feel, and Journey is much better and famous than Kansas. But Kansas isn't a one-hit-wonder, I just don't really like their other songs.
There are some great songs on here, but you'd do much better to buy the two-disc Ultimate Kansas.
I don't think Kansas really deserves a greatest hits album if they are a one hit wonder band... It's like giving Aaron Carter or Franz Ferdinand a Greatest hits album...
Kansas is a great band with violin in it. I'm learning the violin solos to "Dust in the Wind" and I'm thinking about doing both violin and lead vocals to this song "Dust in the Wind." I'm going to perform that with my Centennial High School Guitar Club. The Guitar Club Representitave is letting me play the violin with this song. I do prefer to sing the lead vocal. got any advice?
why is carry on wayward son the only song thats $1.29?? did i miss something here?
Had to buy that song when it went on South Park. Go guitar hero. But the rest is meh.
five stars only for the hit single "carry on wayward son". This song is so phenomenal from the guitar to the lyrics it inspires and is clearly a song to be reckoned with. You gotta love it. I remember the first time hearing it and it automatically got stuck in my head. Especially when it is used as the unofficial theme song to the hit show Supernatural. Once you hear it you have to have it. but, the rest of the album, although similar to the style of carry on wayward son it just does not produce results. but still gotta love my kansas!
it has all the hits buy this you will get your money's worth
This album is excellent and well worth buying
Besides Styx, Kansas is probably my favorite band ever. Musically, they are amazing. Look for the song, the Closet Chronicles.
C'mon folks, let's not trip over ourselves here. It's Kansas. It's mediocre prog rock from a band that never met a bridge they didn't like. Wayward son is a blast, but the rest of it is like Watergate and OPEC, best left in the seventies.
Carry on Wayward song is so awesome. I'm listening to it on my Pod as I type this. Click yes if you agree with me.
I'm going to see Kansas, foriegner, and Styx in Atlanta!!! It should be the greatest experience EVER!!!!!!
This album is great! The vocals are really good and I espcially love the 3 minute guitar solos. My favorite song on this is "Carry on Wayward Son". Download it, it's amazing!
Carry on my wayward son they'll be peace when you buy this song
Carry on my wayward son is the best song of this band and on the radio. i luv it!
Carry On Wayward Son is my favorite song on Earth. I first heard it on the show, Supernatural, and I have listened to it everyday since then.
I used to like hip-hop and electronic. This album made me like rock.
Good album, but I miss "Perfect Lover" which was released as a bonus track on the first vinyl version of this album. When the record label wanted to remaster and re-release it as a CD a few years later, the band "... jumped at the opportunity" to include songs they felt were "... truly our best." This information is included as a message from the band in the CD's liner notes where there is no mention of the missing song. Since I bought the CD to replace my damaged vinyl record, this change was obvious. iTunes had nothing to do with it. But I too would like to find "Perfect Lover" someday because I think it's just a great rockin' song.
I've had the cd since it came out and "The Pinnacle," "The Devil Game," and "Closet Chronicles" are not on it, not to mention there was a song called "Perfect Lover" which is nowhere to be found, when it should be track six, in between "Song for America" and "Hold On." Unless perhaps it was re-released with different tracks on it, iTunes has yet again screwed yet another album from yet another great band. It's stupid. How hard is it to get track listings correct? Seriously. If you're going to have a music service like this, at least do it right for god's sake. As for the cd itself, this is a great place to start if you're not familiar with Kansas, or if you're like I was for a long time and you're only really looking for Carry on Wayward Son and some other songs that rock around as hard as that particular song. But I personally suggest that eventually you do get around to knowing this band for what they were then and still are today, legends of the Progressive Classic Rock scene.
If you are young and thinking of getting this album get it I like it and I'm 14. My favorite song is fight fire with fire(not carry on wayward son, my third favorite)
One of the best guitar riffs and chorus ive ever heard...
Every song on this CD is exceptional. The already amazing Kansas has never sounded better. Carry On Wayward Son is, by far, one of the best songs ever to grace a CD or iTunes itself.
While there is no dispute over several of the songs here, the remainder are somewhat of a mystery. Obviously "Carry On..." "Dust.." "....Know Return" "Play the Game..." "Fight Fire..." and "Hold On" were all radio hits. Conspicously absent on this count is "People of the South Wind" which was one of their higher charting singles (and quite a catchy tune IMO). "The Wall" and "Song for America" are also popular among fans -- the rest I'm guessing were favorite picks of the band members and not what fans would consider "the best of...." Songs like "Portrait" "Icarus (Borne on Wings of Steel)" "Miracles Out of Nowhere" should definitely come before "The Devil Game. (My guess is "The Devil Game" is one of the few (only?) Kansas songs to have a writing credit for Dave Hope but otherwise it makes NO sense to include in a "best of..." collection!) "No One Together" and "Closet Chronciles" are fine tunes but again debatable as to whether they deserve to be on a "best of..." collection. I agree with others who say look to other best of collections or download individual tracks, or just go for the original albums. Fans of Kerry Livgren's Christian songs should check out "Relentless" from "Audiovisions" and "Crossfire" from "Vinyl Confessions".
I listen to Carry on every day yet never get tired of it. This is my favorite album of all time!
i love this song!
...buy this song.
I saw Kansas live in South Bend. They were great! My favorites are Dust In The Wind, Carry On Wayward Son, and Point of Know Return. Basicly all the popular songs. I also have the album Power, which is good too.
