- From Seal's Soul

I was rather surprised to learn that Seal had released a new album; he had just released System the year before. He usually waits at least three years between outings. The concept of doing songs from the '60's era is nothing new (as a matter of fact, Raphael Saadiq has just released an album featuring music from the same period). Seal, while updating the sound ever so slightly, keeps the music true to emotion. It's soulful and evocative. Give it a listen before writing this one off.

- Great Stuff

Ablum is really amazing and seal's voice has such passion in his voice!

- Too easy.

Seal is an phenomenally talented singer with a beautiful voice. Generally he could sing the phone book and I would listen. The problem with this album is that it takes the edge off of these soul classics. It's as if the band had instructions to slow it down just a tiny bit and hit a little softer. There's no snap. Where there's no edge there's no emotion. Would have loved it if this collection jumped out of the speakers just a little more, rather than a little less, than the originals.

- Pure Nostalgia

This album takes you back to a day when artists made great music. It’s pure nostalgia. It’s nice for Seal to reach into the past to reveal his immense talent. Well-done Seal!

- Nails Al Green

Hard to tread in those waters and succeed, but Seal pays the proper homage to the Reverend on "I'm Still In Love With You." Also "Free" originally made semi-popular by Deniece Williams is my other favorite.

- Soulful and warm - yet another great Seal album

Great new album. Creative classic music songs. I am not sure why some people didn't like this album, it's definitely a great Seal album.

- he can do no wrong!!

what an amazing voice this man has. what an amazing list of songs on which we get to hear it. his interpretation, and his personal feel for these songs. love it. hope to hear more from you soon!!!!

- Seal you NEED Wendy and Lisa back.....

This album has no soul. Seal's last great album was his second. Wendy and Lisa (writers) were HUGE reasons why that album was as great as it was. I miss hearing Seal have some soul......

- nice...

very nice compilation! if you know the originals, you hear seal's own take on them. it's hard to reinvent the wheel, but he has definitely embellished it!

- Outsanting

Truely this album just further shows how versatile Seal is. I have enjoyed each and every song.

- Total Cornball Cheesy Bread with a side of Oy Vey

This album makes me feel like dressing up in my finest Kohl's Fashions, getting into my Cutlass Supreme with premium 8-track sounds system, and driving off the nearest cliff cuz I am in my mid 30's and remember when I was cool, Seal was cool.. Now that I am old and tired; seal's sound is old and TIRED.. what next ... is Nona Gaye going to record an album of Martin Gaye's biggest hits? what happened to Trevor Horn... please come back and save Seal...

- Masterful

Seal has stepped outside of his comfort zone and I love him for it. He has put his "seal" on these remakes and made them his own. This is a sign of a true artist. welcome back Seal. I missed you,

- Seal's got it covered.

Seal is pretty cool. This CD is a risk. No one wants to be a "yeah, me too" artist. No one wants to come off like they are out of their own ideas. So, this was a bit of a gamble. Seal, I think you hit the jack pot. It sounds like you wanted to do songs that have inspired you. In turn, you poured new feeling into the material. Starbucks, Borders, iTunes, it doesn't matter where we get it, just that we get. There are a lot of us who get it. Seal, thanks for bringing it to us.

- One word:

WOW!

- Oh, no....

Seal is one of my favorite artists these days and I love classic soul music; some of my favorite songs are on the CD. But, this CD is a disaster. These great songs have been watered down and are now soul-less. The production is milk toast and the songs have become bland. Go buy the originals on iTunes or Otis Redding's entire catalog! This CD is an abomination.

- FYI CHOOKALANA

"Wendy and Lisa were writers on my second album and that was a HUGE reason for it's success" WRONG PAL...YOU COULDN"T BE MORE WRONG! not a single not was written by them and furthermore, the album's biggest hit which till this day remains the most played record in American history along with 'I will always love you' (in one year) was written by me in my bedroom when I was 25. That song was the fourth single released from the second album, it went into the charts at number 60 and dropped out the following week. The album was over then I got a call from the Director of 'Batman forever' who loved the song so much, he put it on the end credits of the movie. As they say, the rest is history and four grammies and 7 million albums later, people like you came out of the woodwork with the proverbial "Oh yeah, I always knew that was a hit". With regards to bringing back Trevor Horn, let it go pal! last time I checked it says 'Seal' at the top of my albums not Trevor Horn.

- love seal but...

love seal but this album is just ok...he sounds good, do not doubt, and generally i appreciate a well done cover of a good oldie, but this feels like he is trying to get out of a contract by releasing a random covers album. not impressive and frankly not worth the money.

- Stunning

Outstanding album.

- Top Notch Covers...

At a time when everybody seems to be doing cover albums, this one is very unexpected and extremely well done. Heard "It's a Man's World" as pre-movie entertainment at the cinema and headed right to iTunes when I got home from the film. I've always been a fan of Seal's style and original sounds... just shows me how versatile a performer he really is. He does justice to everything from "I Can't Stand the Rain" (which already has two of my favorite remakes of all time from The Commitments soundtrack and Miss Tina Turner herself) to "Knock on Wood" which takes me back to college disco days. Thanks for adding these news versions to my collection!

- Odile Swann

I have collected the orignal tunes over the years. When I heard that Seal had recorded them, I had some doubts. Well let me tell you sistahs and brothas, Seal got to me the second time around! Relax, and enjoy the trip back to then, when we knew and felt some SOUL.

- A great compilation!

It's a great time for Seal to release this CD. "A Change is Gonna Come" signifies our historic event of the election of Barack Obama. It's delivered with such passion that it moves one to believe there is hope for change in these trying times. The younger generation may not think it great...it is not rap, emo, grunge, alternative, Garage Band, You Tube, Myspace, Reverberation or out of the box music. It is not geared to the Starbucks crowd (where did that come from?), but they will certainly embrace it. For those that enjoy classic Soul and R&B, this one is for you. Nice job Seal. Keep them coming.

- A great album of covers

To me, someone who has grown up with the music of Seal, his music never fails to disappoint. Now that I'm older, I realize how much of a throwback to the greats he always has been. On this album, Seal proves that he can keep up with the big boys. These songs are classic and no doubt shaped the definition of music today. Seal makes these songs his own while keeping the charm of the original versions. He shows how timeless these songs really are and how much relevance they still have.

- This is a Great CD !!

Seal has done a great job , reflecting the true Soul of the music without effecting the spirit and essence of the original versions. This is an huge feet in it self ,Never mind Seal's stellar performance of these tune's . The emotion , Soul and thought that went into this Cd pays off. Seal does it. From one Soul singer to another,my hat is off to you,Brother Great Job. If someone covers Otis Redding I cringe, Seal Did it Perfect..a must have in your collection. Perfectly Titled "Soul".

- Change Is Good

Rough crowd. I don't see anything wrong with changing it up a bit. Seal has the perfect voice for duplicating these songs from the 60's. I, personally, like the change of pace for Seal and would recommend it to others.

- What an album

Even without promotion i believe this album will soar

- Blast From The Past

It's no secret that Seal is a great artist and his new album proves that he can hang with the best of them. Even though nobody can reproduce the classic original versions Seal defitnitley does these oldies justice.

- Free

Does anyone know the female that sings Free

- Delicious

Delicious. Thank you Seal! Each of these songs need a real man to sing them. He delivers.

- awesome

I don't usually like to hear covers of great classics but Seal sang these songs as if they were written for him. Awesome.

- Kind of dissapointing!

Seal is an awesome singer and usually comes out with songs that push the envelope. I was a bit dissapointed to see that this album is a bunch of remakes. I am not against remakes but at least add your own style to the remake and these dont really seem to have Seal's touch to them. The only song I heard that I liked was Knock on Wood which I would probably like even if it was sung by Weird Al Yankovick. Save your money and buy "System" instead. I am giving it 3 stars though just because Seal is such a great singer.

- Love it!

It takes a special kind of voice to pull off these great songs & Seal's voice does it beautifully! this really showcases his talents! thank you for this album!

- For JTS

I really enjoyed this album; it's not his best work but it's really a great album to mellow out with a glass of wine at the end of a long day. And JTS, the woman who sings Free is Deniece Williams (I believe it's on the album This Is Niecy). While I love Deniece's version, I think Free is one of the best songs on the album.

- simply said

I generally don't like when people do covers but i love this...

- I am enjoying this album

this album took me back to sunday mornings as a boy, listening to my pops play music as he washed his vauxhall(car).

- Awesome

This cd is off the chain. You did it this time SEAL .!!!!

- Awesome!

I love this man's unique voice, and I love his take on these standards.

- Fond Memories

Seal got them all right and the orchestra and backups did too.

- Love, Love, Love this!

I absolutely love this album, I love it when artists remake the oldies and turn them into their own. I especially love Seal's vocals on this album, a new classic!

- I Don't Like It

I don't like this album and it is so "un-Seal". When I first saw that he had a new album I almost instantly bought it without listening to any of the samples. I'm not buying it. Seal, do you.

- 60's Live Again

What a powerful memory of an era! Seal's voice fits this style as if he lived through it. I heard him sing on Dr. Phil's show and had to quickly download the album to listen to all of it. Bravo!

- No I won't buy a remake cd

I was excited to see that Seal had done a new cd. But personally I can't justify buying someone elses remakes. I love Seal. But .....

- Sealist4u

I was at work and heard this amazing sound piping in, oh my god who is that, that's seal this is the best ever I'am a seal crazy fan this is SOAMAZING!

- Damage control?

While "System" was a very good album, it did not sell as well as its predecessors. As a result, we get this seemingly "quickly thrown together" effort to do what exactly? Is this a form of damage control that Seal's management is giving us? Regardless, it is a SEAL album, released a year to the day of the previous effort. Like many artist (Def Leperd, Tears For Fears) who take years between album, this should have been a pleasant surprise. I expect more from Seal, but from a covers album, it is not bad. It just isn't "great". Maybe the label should get some remixers in on this one.

- Soul Good

On his latest album Seal digs into the oft-trodden ground of American soul. He comes up with gems, some better than others, but all of them delivered with style. Some come across as reverent, particularly "A Change is Going to Come" and "People Get Ready." But rendered by Seal, even James Brown's earthy explainer "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" takes on the power to inspire chills. That plus the coverage Seal gives Teddy Pendergrass and Al Green classics make this a disc well worth having.

- Very smooth, soulful, soothing

This albums gave me chills. Even though I've heard these songs by the original artists hundreds of times, when I heard Seal's rendition of these classics, it was almost like I was hearing them the first time. No other artist has a voice quite like his!

- wow

Such a sellout. What happened to 3 years between albums? No real original songs? I expected better....

- Soul

This is a let down for Seal fans. The songs all sound great, but we don't want to hear Seal singing this stuff. We want him working on his own amazing material that he keeps churning out.

- Soul Brotha Seal!

Man! this album is soulful, Seal did a good job remaking these classic soul masterpieces.

- Floored by this

I guess to each their own, and everyone has their own opinion, but I am totally floored by this album. I've never bought a Seal album before, so can't really compare this to anything else that he's done (other than what I've heard on the radio), but I didn't know that he had an album like this in him. Really makes me want to make me hear more of his work....maybe that was the point of this album...to hook non Seal fans. I'm a big fan of soul music, and really anything that moves me, and the singing this album literally moves me to tears.
