crazy album wallcott, campus, and A punk are my favorites great sound, something new and diffrent amazing and talented band
AMAZING! Their songs are really cool and super catchy. The song A-Punk is on Just Dance 2 and that's where I first heard it. I immediately turned on my computer and bought the song. I do not regret it. Buy it. Seriously.
what a great piece of music here. It really hits the spot. It reminds me a lot of MGMT. Excellent job VW! Keep up the good work!!
great album and totally worth the money! their unique sound is great!
Love, love. love! Refreshing like a black cherry limeade on a hot summer day. It's a must buy.
It was great. They were great, had a lot of fun, There music is fantastic. Get the albums, see them live if you get a chance. Lots of fun.
Does anyone else recognize the influence of Paul Simon in their sound?
Whoever said the drummer plays like a chimp, obviously has no idea that music isn't easy.See,chimps probably couldn't hold the drum sticks correctly, let alone play some of the challenging beats this guy plays.Moving on,the album is great. It's hard to believe that people just give these guys crap.Sometimes, you have to be open minded to really appreciate something.
that these boys are ripping his sound and doing it quite poorly. Give 'em three more albums and day goodbye. A very overrated band with no charisma.
Today was boring and i had a headache and then i started listening to this album and i was so happy. ALL the songs are catchy right now the song one(blakes got a new face) is stuck in my head i started singing it around my friends and it got stuck in there heads to (blAAAkes gotta new faaaaace) i wonder why people dont like this song VAMPIRE WEEKEND ALL THE WAY!!!
Their just the best :).
It is a new sound mix of indie and regae
this album is perfect. the sound is new and fresh. vampire weekend knows what's up. and to all you little 11-year-old hannah montana, jonas brothers, and justin bieber loving girls that are calling this crap. get off this page. first, stop writing reviews on something you have no interest in. we'll stop bashing your precious disney channel stars if you stop wasting your time reviewing something that you obviously don't even understand. and second, grow up and get some musical taste.
Personally, I thought it was ok. You either love or hate it. But the sounds were cool and relaxing and hiPster so I like that. The name is different than you would think.
Awesome songs all the way through, consistent yet different in there own way. I'm putting M79 as my favorite on the album
This bands really good any long time indie rock fan will love this there so talented and deserve more recognition
Ok, I randomly found this CD in my dad's glove compartment while looking for Green Day's new CD, and brought it in with me. I figured 'What the heck?' I was extremely curious. I put it on my iPod, and i was the first one to listen to the CD. (My dad hadn't touched it yet.) I fell in LOVE with it, just because it was different, and the more I listened to it the more I liked it. It's a fresh change for me in music, and they change it up in every song so you're not listening to the same stale thing. You should get it, because even if you don't like it now, you might soon. They'll make you laugh and sing along easily.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. If you are looking for an album that flows from beginning to end, this is it.
With a name like Vampire Weekend, I had absolutely no expectations when I first listened to this album. It's relatively simple with some good percussion. I'm kind of an old lady, so I like my music clean(ish) and this fits the bill. Very entertaining, indeed.
Better than their second album. I can honestly say I am in love with every song on the album!
VAMPIRE WEEKEND HAS AWESOME SONGS!
Title is self-explanatory. I've been an indie rock fan for over 4 years now, and by far, this album oozes with some fantastically "east coast" vibes, using flutes, mandolins, harpsichord organs, and other 70's-esque operatics. That said, the drumming is questionable, to say the least. I say that in a respectable way, but at times it audibly throws off the flow of the song: notable on Mansard Roof, and One, but he absolutely destroys Oxford Comma. When there are audible speed-ups & slow-downs in tempo, it's time to warm up the DAW or hire a new drummer. That said, I really did enjoy the album because of its simplicity, it's poppy melodies, and it's overall flow.
Every time I listen to these guys I always want to hear more.
This music has powers. Its simplistic yet so heart touching. Ive lived on the west coast from the time I was born until the time I moved away. All the 12 years i spent growing up is brought backto me. It puts me at peace with myself. I get lost in Vampire Weekends music.
100 people are Van Helsing... This album is great!
My dad started listening to this band when i was about 11, we always used to listen to their CD wherever we went. Now that he has passed on, this song brings back so many memories with him. So, I now buy every album of theirs, and you should too!
My bestfriends boyfriend got me into Vampire weekend. And I am utterly glad he did!!!! Vampire weekend is the best ablam of 2008!
I love Vampire Weekend! I even have my 5 year-old daughter yelling out "It's Vampire Weekend" everytime one of thier songs comes on the radio.
^^^^^^ different than what you'd think if you just read the band name
I thought I should check this band out because I can't stop hearing about them. I'm beyond dissapointed, wasted my time but at least not my money.
Great album! These guys did an amzing job on this. The music is amazing and has a great beat. The lyrics are also somewhat cathcy.
Like always artist try to make something as good as their first but Vampire weekend by far is better than contra. From Mansard Roof to Cape Cod Kwassa Kwass and Oxford Comma My favorite. Overal its and Amazing cd . Hope this helped.
This is ligit one of the best cds, I have ever heard. Its one of the only CDs I have liked every single song on. I recommend this all the way. Also their second cd "Contra" is exelent too.
After lollapalooza 2009, I really got into vampire weekend. My interest faded, but now looking back, there are some really good tracks. I would definitely buy this album over contra. I gotta say, I love the drums in almost all the songs.
Ok all you hippy lovers, I like to call all indie music (except for the killers) wossy rock, I'll tell u y. It is poppy, dance music, and doesnt tell the world what real life is like and in my opinion is destroying rock music. What ever happened to "GRAB THE BALLS/ MAKE A STATEMENT" ROCK N' ROLL ? If Kurt cobain hadn't died rock music wouldn't be like this today, think about it............... And don't tell me their is not a statement to make, because I'm tired of pop and hip-hop music of the mainstreem today..............................
Late the Vampire Weekend craze but very happy I went there. Fun music with catchy riffs and clever lyrics. Really like Oxford Comma and Mansard Roof.
This is one of my favorite albums. The lyrics are fresh and interesting and use many words I have never heard of. The sound of these songs remind me of summer, preppy resorts, and clean white beaches.
There are albums that you listen to so often and then you get burned out on them, you know what I mean? Well that's NOT the case here. I just love all the songs they push out. The really simple style VW has is nothing like anything I've seen in a long time.
When i first heard the name "vampire weekend" my first thought was its probably just another one of those emo groups. Boy was I wrong! Their music is so happy and uplifting! Their use of Catchy yet hard to understand at first lyrics are genius. The energy they put into their songs is just incredible! Anytime i'm having a bad day, I just put on some VW and all my worries are lifted. Great music. Great band. Buy the album! Totally worth it!
people who say that this band is bad are just trying to discourage people from beginning to become fans, leaving more tickets for themselves......good stradegy......
this cd is not as good as contra.
Just great!
Not as good as contra in my opinion. This is a great alternative album from a great alternative band that will put you in a good mood no matter how depressed or angry you are. All of the songs on this album will entertain you and make you smile. So if you need some cheeerin up buy both of Vampire Weekend's albums.
The strangest surf rock album I've ever heard is one where every song sounds the same. Here's track-by-track analysis: 1. MANSARD ROOF - Pretty good opening song. Opens the record out with a bang. (4.2/5) 2. OXFORD COMMA - This is an elegant song. It kinda sounds like some kind of record the queen would listen to. (4.2/5) 3. A-PUNK - I love this song. You've heard it before. (4.7/5) 4. CAPE COD KWASSA KWASSA - This is a decent song. It could be better. Kind of repetitive. (3.8/5) 5. M79 - This song is so strange. It's not great. Not a fan. (2.2/5) 6. CAMPUS - One of my favorites. I like it a lot. (4.8/5) 7. BRYN - Quite a forgettable song. To be honest, I can't even remember it right now. :) (3.5/5) 8. ONE (BLAKE'S GOT A NEW FACE) - It's quite annoying. Too repetitive. (1.8/5) 9. I STAND CORRECTED - Too slow. Surf rock doesn't work in ballad form. (2.3/5) 10. WALCOTT - I'm a fan. Great Boston anthem. (4.5/5) 11. THE KIDS DON'T STAND A CHANCE - A great ending. This fits in so well as the ending. It's a good song too. (4.3/5) So, therefore: SONGS TO BUY: Mansard Roof, Oxford Comma, A-Punk, Campus, Walcott, The Kids Don't Stand a Chance MEH SONGS: Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, Bryn SONGS TO STEER CLEAR FROM: M79, One (Blake's Got a New Face), I Stand Corrected Thank you for your time to read this review.
I wish I could have front row!!!!!!! I saw them in concert once and they were amazing!!! And they were the first band i saw in concert and I bought I shirt and I accidentally got bleach on it :*( I cried for like an hour but I hope to see them again so I can get another shirt!!
this cd is so amazing. i've yet to meet anyone who doesn't love this album. it is so great definitely buy this. so worth it
I would have made this band five stars if I could understand it a little better, but other than that I love the sound of this band, great buy.
These guys are outstanding!
But at least Blake has a new face.
I usually don't write reviews, but I had to for these guys. This is the greatest music I've ever heard. Don't hesitate. BUY THIS ALBUM!!

To me, Vampire Weekend is best described as a mix of The Shins and Bedouin Soundclash, with perhaps a touch of Modest Mouse at some points in the vocals. Very influenced by African guitar. Definitely a unique sound.
love the clip of A-Punk, very original. love the melodies and the vocals, because his voice is just fantastic... and high! lol
Glad I took the chance on this - really upbeat tunes reminiscent of my younger years.
dont you think? love it!
Consummate yet creative musicianship, zany lyrics, rhythms to make Paul Simon jealous and an attention to melody that is so often overlooked in contemporary pop and rock. Excellent Debut.
Awesome album! The most refreshing alternative I've heard in forever with its orchestral digressions and amazing underpinnings of world beat. I'd give this 6 stars if iTunes would let me.
I am currently wrting my midterms at uni which means that i'll be listening to a lot of music during this time. I was in grave need for something new and stumbling upon this album was a refreshing find indeed. One (Blake's Got A New Face) is most definitely reminiscent of some early Paul Simon. These boys know how to write music and lyrics and i can't wait to watch their careers develop. Great Album, Great Band
I can count on one hand the number of albums I've been able to listen to immediately again after the first play. This is one of them. Straight through once, then just started it again. Wonderful strings, excellent vocals and clever little beats and grooves. Like the cool offspring of Sting (Police era) and Paul Simon (Graceland era, yeah I know it's been said, but it's true) with the modern pop stylings of Britt Daniel thrown in for good measure. I can't stop listening to it...
This has 2 be one of the best alternative albums this year!
Catchy African rythms in the same vein as Bedouin Soundclash. All-in-all a terrific album.
Every track is solid my favorite is A-Punk
What a new sound! It's different and good! This is truly music for every mood! It's simply amazing! I just adore the song I stand corrected. It's my favorite song of this album! I really they come to Montreal because I would love to see them live! I seriously don't know what else to say but this small tip: Buy this album you won't regret a minute of it's perfectly amazing sound!
finally a new album with a new sound and man does it sound good, totally shocked me
I'm smiling so much. This album is so good, it makes me want to reconsider all the other albums I've ranked a 5. I really mean it this time. Vampire Weekend is for anyone in need of a pick-up of any kind ... and for those who don't, it's a huge reminder of why it's so good to be happy.
i love it! Catchy rhythms, funky beats, clever lyrics...very original stuff, well worth the buy. Check out A-Punk and Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa (very Paul Simon-esque).
It's light and luscious. It's catchy and complex. If you don't enjoy it, you're probably just a little dead on the inside... break out and bop hop and groove to the rhythm. It's money well spent -- or if you're still not sure, check out the EP first. Ladies of Cambridge is worth it too.
