Pixies - Wave of Mutilation

Wave of Mutilation by Pixies Song Info

"Wave of Mutilation" is an alternative rock song by the American band Pixies, and is the third track on their 1989 album Doolittle. Written and sung by the band's front man Black Francis, the song was inspired by articles about Japanese businessmen committing murder-suicides by driving into the ocean. The song also references a lyric from the Charles Manson-penned "Cease to Exist," released by the Beach Boys as "Never Learn Not to Love."

- Perfection.

A sound that has never been recreated.

- MSG Early 90's

I had tickets to the U2 Zoo TV Tour, and when I found out that Pixies were the opening act, I couldn't have been more excited!! I was literally standing in my seat! U2 was good , but the highlight was definately the Pixies!

- pixies are great

Pixies are a wonderful band they are very unique. I recomend Debaser, I Bleed, La La Love You, and Monkey Gone to Heaven.

- BUY THIS FOR REAL

The best music I've heard in my entire life ever!! NO JOKE!!! If you love genocide, click "no"

- Good

It is worth buying because it is not like anyother music out there today. If you want something different, just listen to these bad boys!

- Warning:Groundbreaking Material

One of the essential Pixies starter kits to buy, these guys(and gal) paved the way for the rest!!If you like Weezer or Nirvana check out where they were inspired from.Greatest Influential Band.I know these guys got me through some dark days.feel the vibes..

- Gouge Away the end of the Eighties

One of the all time greats from late eighties post-punk/surf era, and The Pixies first real commercial success in the U.S. Doolittle mixes the familiar paint-peeling dissonance from the prior two albums, (Tame, Dead, Gouge Away) with more pop sounding classics like Monkey Gone To Heaven & Here Comes Your Man. A must for any well rounded music collection.

- Kickass

This album rocks so hard, it's so easy to listien to all the way threw over and over again, there isn't a song on here that I don't like. A must have for pixies fans

- FANTASTIC!!!

I love the crazy rage and catchy melodies. The Pixies are so creative and unique. They take a few listens to get used to but after that you'll never be the same. My favorite songs on the album are Debaser, Mr. Grieves, No. 13 Baby (especially the end) and Hey.

- hey

been trying to meet you. love this album

- Debaser...

...is the best song you will ever hear. In your life. And the other fourteen tracks on this album are fantastic as well. Buy it!

- Great Song

where is my mind great song especially at the end of the movie Fight Club

- one hell of a ride

i had just bought this album two months ago all of its songs are still bored into my head. this was the first pixies album i have ever listened to and it is one of the best, maybe even the best (it's tied with surfer rosa). frank's loud, detuned voice is completely balanced out with kim's soft, soothing chants. A perfect album to get if you're curious about the pixies. and don't buy individual songs; get the whole thing and enjoy the ride.

- One of the top 10 best albums ever!

You have to own this album if you don't have it already! Buy the entire thing and prepare for a religous experience. If it doesn't sink in after the first 2-3 listens you're dead. This band's sound was so ahead of it's time that bands now are just catchin on to this style from almost 20 years ago. This band is a phenomenon and this album captures them more colorfuly than any others.

- Pixies!

The Pixies are a little like the Velvet Underground. They didn't sell many records, but they had a HUGE influence on everyone who came after. Black Francis formula is from sweet to screaming. Doolittle is their greatest CD. Best songs are Here Comes Your Man, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Debaser and Wave of Mutilation.

- Getting Old

Good lord are we getting old...when Depeche Mode, Cure and R.E.M. begin to sound too much like Pop, slide this rascal into the CD player and cleanse your palate.

- One of the best

This is high in the running for best album of all time. Simple bass lines provided by Kim Deal hold together Black Francis's crazed hollering and complement the steady beat held by drummer David Lovering. Oh, and Joey Santiago riffs like a maniac. The pixies rock, and Doolittle is one of their best! There isn't a bad song on this whole album.

- Best Album Ever

This is one of the very few albums I have had for many many years and I am still able to go back to and really really enjoy. I just love this album. I think it is the absolute best of the Pixies.

- I like it!

I stole this interesting looking album from my dad not knowing what it was i kinda herd of these guys but never their music and man im glad i checked it out they play alot of rhythm and there very catchy! "Hey" its definatly my favorite one

- Well, it ain't no Doolittle

For years after this came out, anytime a new cd was released by anyone, our response to, "So how's the new so-and-so cd?" was, "Well, it ain't no Doolittle." 10 stars

- The Pixies Meant so Much.

Thank you to the Pixies. The Pixies meant so much to me and my friends in the time following Hardcore Punk. Punk morphed into Speed Metal and it was hard to take the music personally anymore. The Pixies sound was so different and we all immediately embraced it. I truly feel that the Pixies also helped foster most of the better bands of the last 12-15 years. Doolittle is one of my favorite albums of all time.

- This Monkey has just gone to heaven

Their would be no alternative rock without this album. This band was so genius it's not even funny. One of the best albums ever hands down. Monkey Gone to Heaven is my favorite personally but they are all amazing so check it out.

- Insanely Good

From the maniacal laugh riot of "Debaser" to the sinister, hissing observations of "Tame" ("Hips like Cinderella!") to the aching emotional thrill of "Wave of Mutilation", each song (especially the first five) is like looking into a diamond and seeing all kinds of strange, brilliant facets. It may sound abrasive to newbies, but stick with "Doolittle" and it will become warm and comforting over time.

- If you dont have this record, then there is something wrong with you

In my top 5 records of 500 or so. Black Francis at his quirky best this record was made in the Pixies early 90's prime. Santiago's guitar work on NO.13 Baby is really something and I can never hear Debaser enough. Original, weird, rockin, punky, this record has it all.

- are they serious?

the greatest rock album of the 80's. period. every song is unique, original and influential. this is what rock and roll was meant to sound like!

- La La Love It!

Yeah loungin' in my Ford Escort listening to Taco - puttin on the ritz, followed by Debbie Gibson - I think we're alone now, and then finally The Pixies- Here comes your man. Oh wait I mean... Walking, wearing all black, with the front of my hair all grown out, listening to my Sony Walkman cassette player mix tape, Attrition - Pendulum Turns, Sisters of Mercy- Black Planet and finally following up with the Pixies- I Bleed. Whatever.... I can't remember things in the eighties quite right. I think I hurt my brain somewhere along the way. If you don't have it, buy it, If you've never heard it, then shame on your friends.

- tight rythem

the cd hooks you with debaser, and holds you until the memorable end. kim deal has a creepy good voice, black francis screams like a hellion, joey santiago rips up the guitar, and david lovering holds them steady. i like trompe le monde better, but doolittle is a close second

- HEY, Been trying to love this record

I already wrote a review of this record that was accidently deleted and it was pretty FN long so all im gonna say is its stunning and unreal and its influence goes beyond recognition ( I mean smells like teen spirit come on!). Truly a gem. Hey is personally my favorite song of all time. 5 stars! Standouts: everything

- Better late than never

I bought this album in the middle of the hair band era. It was so ahead of it's time,I thought it was crap. It took a decade of grunge and other great rock to clean my pallet so i could realize how great this band really is! This album along with Surfer Rosa are two of the best albums ever made.

- amazing.

Amazing album with an amazing array of talent. Worth the 10 bucks.

- One of the Pixies' best.

While not as good as Surfer Rosa, this album is still a testament of the Pixies in thier prime, and it has rightfully been called by many one of the greatest albums of all time. I highly recomend that after you buy Surfer Rosa, you check this one out.

- classic

This is a classic. If you buy one pixies album, get this one.

- Pixies Bliss!

Doolittle is the Pixies opus. Great tempo changes, lyricism, and imagery. This is an essential pop/punk/new wave puzzle piece. This album is twenty years old and twenty years on it will still be essential! BUY IT!

- One of the best albums ever.

This is one of my favorite albums, it goes up there with Nevermind and In Utero. the pixies totally inspired kurt cobain which is cool. i can listen to every single song and i love them all and the lyrics are great. I Bleed is an awesome song. definitely buy this after you get Surfer Rosa of course.

- sweet!!

the rifs are so simple, yet so ingenius and captivating, the sound is awesome, and the vocals kinda whispery

- I Believe... in Mr. Grieves

After releasing their ground-breaking album Surfer Rosa, the Pixies returned with Doolittle, a vicious pop record filled with songs about self-mutilation, the world being covered with sludge and love. The Pixies were known for influencing big alt. rock acts such as Nirvana, Weezer and Dinosaur Jr., but without really becoming too big themselves. This is a really great record and I suggest you buy it right now. If you only wanna buy a couple of songs, I suggest Debaser, Wave of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, Mr. Grieves, Hey, Gouge Away and Monkey Gone to Heaven.

- Annoying

Why Jack Black likes this I'll nver know, honestly I think he's just trying to be funny by having an upbeat song.

- PIXIES WILL TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER WORLD

The Pixies are a band that your cool uncle was into but you were too young to appreciate, then as you got older and grew weary of all the fluffy crap music out there you realized why your uncle is still the coolest dude you know and you "get" why he loves the Pixies so much. Enjoy this album because there really are no bands out there anymore who can bring it like the Pixies!

- THE BEST!

I used to have this on cassette, but I needed it again. THis is the best music from the best band. Downlod the ENTIRE album.

- Must have

This is a must have for any music collection!

- I Shouldn't Like This Album...

...it's noisy, it's out of tune, it's got ridiculous lyrics...and I freakin' LOVE it!. Man, this is a great album. My favorite Pixies album and one of my favorites - Period.

- A Must

This is a must CD for any fan of alternative or Indie music. The Pixies Doolittle album ushered in a whole era of grunge and groups such as the Smashing Pumkins. This is from an era when groups made albums, not songs.

- Untouchable

Everytime I discuss the Pixies with someone and they INSIST that Surfer Rosa is superior to Doolittle, I can't help but feel like they are kidding themselves. It may be more accessable, but Doolittle is simply an indie masterpiece, the definitive Pixies album. Surfer Rosa had some great stuff, but I personally felt it had too much goofy filler to be considered as classic as this. Doolittle has its bizarre goofiness as well, but they somehow make it all come together. It's a tornado of rock and roll surrealism. If it was a hurricane, then the final minute and a half of "No. 13 Baby" would be the eye of the storm, a sacred and touching moment of sincerity and understanding before it launches back into madness.

- This is where it all begins

If you've never heard the Pixies, this is the one that will change you the most. If you love underground rock, but have never heard of the Pixies, you will love this album because all richly, decadent and satisfying, nerve ripping and thrilling music made today derives from the Pixies. Listen and be in awe!

- GENIUS

Every great band has a moment where all cylinders fire, all the bandmates are reading eachothers minds and the music hits you with such force, clarity and emotion, you feel that each song must have been written expressly for you..... The Beatles did it with many albums - I can say with confidence that The Pixies accomplished the same with Doolittle..... Listen to it with an open mind, it will grow on you and then POW - your hooked. A band at its creative zenith.

- Pixies Rock!

This album has many memories of many years ago - great tunes to drive with

- Favorite Pixies album by far!

I dont care what anyone says, this is the BEST pixies album, period. It has almost all of their best songs, just missing Velouria and where is my mind, but it is just my opinion. :D

- Really good.

Really good. You can thank Black Francis/Frank Black for Smells Like Teen Spirit, as he wrote "Debaser" which single handedly influenced that song. Key tracks are Debaser, Wave of Mutilation, Here Comes Your Man, Dead, Monkey Gone To Heaven, and, hell, just about every track. Almost in my top 5, not sure yet.

- The Pixies ARE the 80's and early 90's for me. They Rocked!

My God the Pixies rocked!  I just got through destroying the last semblance of my hearing by listening to Doolitle as loud as my speakers and stereo would play it.  Kim Deal could make the simplest bass line just groove, and that voice of her was so sweet sounding.  She was The Pixie.  Then there was David Lovering's drums, man he could turn the simplest little syncopated kick into this thing of percussive poetry.  And the guitars!  Man, those long sustained notes overlapping with one another, turning musically simple melodies into something ethereal. It' like the whole was so much more than the sum of the parts.  And Black Francis, the boy could belt them out!  Power, sheer power, like a Ferrari cruising the strip at 25.

- Everything but tame.

Truly awesome. It's beautiful, ugly, fierce, passionate, funny and so much more. It's nearly impossible to be this smart and exciting simultaneously.
