John Mayer - Vultures

Vultures by John Mayer Song Info

"Vultures" is a song from John Mayer's album Continuum (2006), composed by John Mayer, Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino. The song features a smooth groove, mixing elements of blues, soul and R&B. With a striking bass line, courtesy of Palladino, and a constant rhythm, the song addresses the fight against adversity and the forces that try to take down the protagonist, symbolized by the "vultures". Mayer's voice is engaging and expressive, bringing vulnerability, while his guitar, enhanced by Jordan's drums, stands out in the solos and riffs, contributing to the track's introspective and slightly melancholic atmosphere.

- 7.99?!

Seriously, IF you're on the fence about buying this album and you like JM even just a little bit...BUY IT. $7.99?! I'd pay 19.99+tax for a regular edition with a smile on my face.

- :D

Great Album! :D

- Awesome

1st: this album is absolutely amazing. 2nd: I don't see why people are writing such mean reviews! when John mayer wrote this he wasn't writing it just because! it's what he was feeling . You obviously have terrible taste if you have something negative to say about this album. Maybe you should take a 2nd listen or just don't listen period if you have something stupid to say.

- JM

Greatest album by far. Every time I hear his angelic voice, I'm instantly swept away. This album cannot be topped.

- Why doesnt this álbum deserve all 5 stars?

I rarely review, but totally had to for the 138 trolls that gave it 1 star, the 58 non accepting haters that gave it 2 stars, the 101 grumpy perfectionists that gave it 3 stars and the wannabe fans that gave it 4 stars. This is a 5 star álbum, it is pure musical perfection in every way, without comparison, without being affected, it is John Mayer's best to date and undeniably a modern musical master piece that will transcend throughout the years.

- 2012 and still amazing!

This is amazing! I have loved this album 4 ever and it is now 2012!! Such an amazing album 4 everyone!

- I like John Mayer

He has real, natural, raw talent. He is an artist that I definitely do respect. Most music on the radio is heavily mixed and changed and auto tuned but John Mayer is very raw sounding and I like that very much. When it comes to how they engineered this album, they didn't mix his voice a lot. They left it alone. And that's what I like. He also writes his own music which I'd have to give him credit for. I don't see Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry writing their own music anytime soon. So I think anybody who knows what real music is would have to agree with me that you can't even compare the three because he's YEARS beyond what they'll only dream of being.

- Removal of SPAM

Can someone please remove all the spam for "free iTunes gift card" thank you

- Greatness!!!

7.99 is a steal! John Mayer is awesome and to Practically steal this cd at that price just makes it that much better!!

- One Word.

Amazing.

- Sweet

This stuff is supa dopeeee

- Love it!!!

Love love love this album!!!!

- This is...

My 2nd favorite album by him.

- Um

I haven't bought the album, but I've listened to samples to the music, and it seems like John Mayer's music has sort of lost its flare… They're slower & more boring than normal and they don't have a lot of feeling.

- John mayer is so overrated

honestly john mayer sings like a woman

- Stevie Ray Starbucks strikes again.

I have an ethical issue with this "waiting for the world to change." what a lazy, apathetic ethos! As Gandhi immortally mused, "be the change you wish to see in the world." John Mayer's pseudo sensitive frat boy angle does not coincide with this. A great musician has some semblance of a compassionate, vulnerable heart. John Mayer is Greenwich connecticut/easy listening approved schlock with a veiled machismo and arrogance. He's like that guy who pretends to sympathize with that drunk girl crying in the corner, when he really just wants to get some at the end of the night. His chops are good, but incredibly derivative (SRV sans the fire in his belly). I can't stand his voice (which he admits derives from Dave Mathews - BLECH), conveying a contrived sense of whimsy and smoothness. If you like this stuff, honestly, more power to you. I respect that, but this is stuff I just can't get behind. Check out Gary Clark jr. or Joe Bonamassa if you really want to hear what a guitar hero sounds like.

- Thes best

Come on man, only album I'd buy that I could listen to since I was like 5...it's a keeper...

- Wow!!!

I had been waiting for soo long for this CD to be $7.99 to buy it lol Been listening to him since he started his career and this is by far the best cd i have ever heard. Can't even explain it but John Mayer sure knows how to get deep into our souls with his music. This is what music is all about! Sad to see other people listening to trashy songs, not appreciating great music and artist like John. Just listening to it lightens my mood. Doesn't matter what mood you're in.. you will NOT be disappointed after listening to this CD. <3 him!!!

- Such an amazing work of art

Truly incredible album put out by a truly magnificent artist. And the music only gets better live.

- Gift card scam

Don't do it.

- One of my favorite albums of all time.

Definitely one of my "desert island" albums - I literally could listen to it on repeat (and have when I bought the album 5 or so years ago on its release date!) Not a single bad track on the entire album. You'll immediately fall in love with the bluesy guitar sound and lyrics guaranteed. "Gravity" and "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room" are some of my favorites.

- It doesn't get any better than this...

By far, this is his best overall album. Even though I love nearly every song by him, this is the only studio album I can listen to without even considering skipping a track. After it's release, it didn't leave my cd player for over six months, and i still listen to this/WTLI regularly today. Although these days I prefer Where The Light Is over this because it's live, the studio album will always bring back unforgettable memories. Buy this and you will not regret it.

- Getting Chills

I love this album and him sooo much!!!! <3

- it will

in keeping true to himself by avoiding full pop albums and tepid songs "continuum" offers an escape for what radio passes for music these days'... mayer shines making doubt, love, loss and every emotion worth experiencing ..." GENIOUS" his bluesy, r&b , rock infused tracks stay with you and trigger tears, hope and complete serenity... one of the best this year. Mayers Magnus Opus.

- This song I play over and over. Love it!

I love this song. It is a song that you can play over and over and never seem to get tired of it. Such strong words. Very meaningful.

- It stinks

Do not buy gravity

- Amazing album

He really knows how to craft a record!

- One of my favorite albums of his.

- I bought this record TWICE!!!

....CLASSIC!!!! Once you are finished being boring and raised uh hmm I mean "Born and Raised" please revisit the emotions that made you write these songs. Perhaps re-date the girl you were with at the time.

- Fantastic

Really great record. Has a raw feel to it and it's full of energy. Really like this record. I wish I could play guitar like him

- This album got me through highschool

What can I say...this album is AMAZING. So comforting and got my through my crappy highschool years. Listening to it now is so nostalgic.

john mayer has been and will always be my favorite singer/song writer out there. he speaks from the heart and i fall in love with his voice every time i hear one of his songs.<3

- Amazing

Love this John Mayer. This album is purely Amazing and his best one. Better than room for squares and extremely better than his new one Born and Raised. Love this album and can't beat for $7.99

- Mega Thrust

I feel like this is some good music. Some times I want to cry and make a snack to this and other times I want to wreck the mic and free style all night till the door bell rings to this.

- Classic

An amazing album, that will go down I history. I highly recommend!

- Amazing. My favorite album

I love John Mayer too much. This album is on repeat all the time.

- Continuum - Over and Over

This is one of those CD's that you just want to play over and over again. Once you start listening to it you won't want to stop. If your not already a John Mayer fan you will be after listing to Continuum.

- really good

good album he is way better now. he is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Must Have

John Mayer has got to be one of the most talented artists out there today, and he definitly proves it on this album. Continuum is his third cd and he just keeps on getting better. Theres not one dud on the album. He does have some of his Trio songs on it, that he did solo of course, but it it's still a must have album. He got alot more bluesy on this one, but he definitly pulls it off. He sounds so natural, and thats the kind of thing that seperats him from all the other artists out there today. You can tell he does what he does for the music and his fans.

- This album is a must buy!!!

LOVE his music and this album gives me chills

- five stars for JM

I've always like John Mayer's older stuff, but never really became a fan until I heard the "try!" album with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino. Now thats magic, right there folks. Such a stage presence, such passion.... and great tunes. John Mayer is constantly evolving as an artist - and his latest concoction has that low key, sexy, bluesy, Eric Clapton-esq kinda feel. Vultures is my all time favorite song from John Mayer (iTunes has me sitting at over 300 plays for that one... its still not overplayed to my ears), and from my first couple listens to this new album, track number 2 (I don't Trust Myself) and track number 8 (Slow Dancing in a burning room) are my new favs.... you won't be disappointed.

- 1 Grammy - Year 1, 2 Grammies - Year 2, 3 Grammies This Year?

I think that this album will be nominated for album of the year and personally, I think it should win. Albums like this are rare, very rare!

- Asking the right questions.

"Stop this train/i want to get off and go home again" is the chorus Mayer croons overtop of warbling accoustic guitars. The song builds to a father/son moment about how life is moving and changing and Mayer's eventual realization that although life hurts and pains it is beautiful. Is it worth sacraficing the magnificence for the suffering? This is where Mayer's true lyrical talent lies, in asking questions. By providing his own twenty-something answers filled with candor, mature but youthful; Mayor has built a style that is retrospectively enlightening.

- Love it

Love it! Love every song!

- towering

This is John Mayer's towering achievement thus far. I am shaking my head at just how great this recording is. The song "Belief" alone, is worth the purchase price, but is only one of many beautiful compositions. Soulful, organic, uncluttered arrangements that master the use of space and nuance and restraint... John's voice has never sounded better, and he has always been a wonderful guitarist, which he finally showcases in the best way. Take a deep bow Mr. Mayer!

- A great listen.

I may be biased as I am a John Mayer fan, but I would give this album a definite recommend. It's a good listen from beginning to end. Rich vocals, and nice mix of upbeat and mellow tunes complete this latest release.

- Beautifully done

This is an absolutely fantastic album. I wasn't expecting it to be this good. Thank you John Mayer for coming out with some good music. Something we listeners have been needing for quite some time!

- Will take a few times...

As with all other Mayer CD's this one I'll have to listen to a few times I think... too bad. I also noticed that a few songs were from his last release. Not impressed as I already bought them....

- fabulous artist

I first heard John Mayer on Herbie Hancock's excellent "Possibilities" album (which I also highly recommend as there are many other fantastic performances by other artists on it as well). John kicks off that album with a song called "Stitched Up" which is SO incredible I stopped it halfway through and plugged it into speakers so everyone in the room could hear it. I swear within 3 bars I was completely hooked. This album has a really similar feel to that fantastic song. He is an amazingly talented artist! I fantastic find in a time where it sometimes feels like vapid pop has entirely taken over the scene.

- Awesome!!

This CD is probably the best I have ever bought. Almost every song is amazing (the only exception being track # 2- I Don't Trust Myself [With Loving You]). My favorite track has to be #4 Heart of Life, followed closely behind by #10 Bold as Love, #12 In Repair and #9 Slow Dancing in A Burning Room. (P.S. If you watched House on Sept 12, #5 Gravity was the song that was on at the end of the episode)

- The wait is finally over !!

I have been a JM fan for 6 years and waiting for this album was just eating me up inside. The wait was well worth ! His style, the way he plays and his songwriting just keeps getting better as the years pass. His music just touches me I don't know how but it just does. I can't wait until he goes on tour. He once said his bumper sticker should read "Shut Up & Play". I couldn't agree more.....

- His BEST yet

I don't know if John Mayer reads these reviews on iTunes, but I went out of my way to post this because I'm hoping it will get to him some how. THIS IS YOUR BEST CD YET! I just drove from Toronto to Columbus, Ohio and it played over and over and over the whole time. PERFECT DRIVING MUSIC if your on a long trip alone. Makes you reflect. Love it!!! Love it!

- This is so good it's tear-inducing

I'm not even gonna lie, I feel like crying when I listen to slow dancing in a burning room. the man knows his way around a heartfelt lyric, that's for damn sure! this cd is one of the few cds i've actually been motivated to buy lately. it's so beyond good. GO JOHN!

- John Comes of Age

Today marks the official release of John Mayer's third studio recording, "Continuum". It's been a long time coming for those of us who count ourselves among John's long time and loyal fans - but lawd almighty - it was well worth the wait. Each and every offering on this album has lyrical and musical depth. For those of you who preferred the "sensitive singer/songwriter" side of John, well, he's back on this CD, with songs such as the one I mention above, or the beautiful simplicity of "Heart of Life", and "Stop This Train". I dare anyone to listen to the lyrics of the latter and not be moved to tears. But if your tastes lean more towards his foray into the world of raw blues, there's something here for you too - there are a few songs he's brought with him from his work on "Try", with the John Mayer Trio - studio re-workings of "Vultures" and the sultry "Gravity", and he's even thrown in a Hendrix cover, "Bold As Love". He also treads lightly into political territory here, with the already famiilar "Waiting On The World To Change", and the absolutely mesmerizing beat of "Belief". (I've heard it opined there are shades of Sting in that song). There's an introspective sense of melancholy about this album - it seems to convey a sense of coming of age for John - a hesitancy to grow older, to face the inevitable uncertainties that life holds for all of us - while at the same time displaying a musical maturity far beyond his years.

As if I wasn't convinced before, this album marks John as an artist to be reckoned with, not just for today, but hopefully for many years to come. Continuum only solidifies my opinion that John may well prove to be THE musical talent of this generation.

- This is unbelievable...

This is JM's best CD ever...in fact it is one of my favourite CD's of all time. Gravity is possibly the most amazing song I've ever heard, and thats not to mention Waiting on the World to Change, the Hendrixx cover Bold As Love, or the amazing, catchy, witty I'm Gonna Find Another You. This CD is unbelievable, and I hope JM doesn't wait as long between CDs this time!

- just getting better

john's first album was great, i never new that one man could take a single moment and write a song about it (my stupid mouth) second album was even better, a lot of the song you have to try to find out what he is trying to say, and i love that. "Try" was amazing! he really showed off what he had in his blood when it came to Blues. and now "contniuum" fans that don't appreciate this kind of music probably wont buy it but for me. i think it was a milestone in his own personal life and his relationship with music, this album is truly amazing! and it's the kind of laid back music where you come home from a hard days work and just relax and get lost in a world you've never gone before, don't stop writing John mayer

- Bring on the John!!!!!

This guy never ceases to amaze me!!! I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this album and it has once again like the rest of John Mayer's albums been a treat. I love it!!!!

- Best Yet

John's best album to date. Sounding more and more like a young Eric Clapton, John Mayer has produced his most memorable collection of songs thus far.

- Highly recommended!!!

Smooth, sexy~LOVE IT!!

- JM Continuum

A long anticipated day is here! It did not disappoint. JM will never disappoint any fans. TRY! blew me away, but boy oh boy, this by far his best work... this is going on REPEAT on the ipod. JM has a way of getting right down into your soul. His voice, the flow of the music... it all works together … and it is genius! Right on John!

- A Whole New Stone

Just finished listening to Continuum for the first time - my first, second and third thoughts: awesome, awesome, awesome. It's not at all like his first two albums, somewhat like "Heavier Things", and much closer to his last, "Try" - but without a doubt, creative, diverse, and altogether wonderful. Mayer's music continues to grow and to impress. Beautiful work - this one's a keeper.

- Mayer continues to draw me in, lift me in

A jazzier sound than in previous albums, Continuum continues to do what Mayer has since Room for Squares -- touch me, sooth me, make me smile silently at life. He accurately, poignantly describes love and loss and sweetness, all the while accompanied by polyphonic melodies.

- His best so far!

John Mayer continues his natural and wonderful musical progression with "Continuum", an album that displays his growing musical maturity. While fans of his slower acoustic sound may find this surprisingly different, don't discount him for trying new things. I find Mayer's voice has a way of wrapping itself around you and holding you in. Stand out tracks on this album are the most experimental: "I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)", "Vultures", "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "Dreaming With a Broken Heart". Don't miss this album! The songs will be stuck in your head for days!

- An Album for the Ages

This album will last. It rewards close listening, or can burble in the background. Mayer explores musical styles and successfully incorporates them into his own musical language: Philly horns, Van Morrison soul/pop, his own inimitable bluesy feel, Hendrix tone...and lots more. It's also great to hear studio versions of tunes that debuted on the live "Try" album (Gravity, Vultures). A major achievement.

- EEEEEEWWWWW!!!

He looks like "Death" His music stinks!

- oh yeah.

john, this is a solid album. it's as good a number three as return of the jedi. and so soulful. thanks.

- Decent... Not as radio-friendly as last albums, but solid none-the-less

I am liking this album more and more. However, the songs don't seem as phenomenal as Room for Squares. Granted, I enjoy the style of this album; and, comparatively to other artists, it's really good. But, I was expecting something a little more "pop-ey" I guess. Nonetheless, it's worth a listen... Try it before you buy it. Think of the album and "the next step" in John's songwriting... Having his trio on this album has affected it's sound/feel substantially - I believe in a good way.

- Love this Music!

First time I ever heard of John Mayer was at a MacWorld a few years ago, where he came out on stage, at the request of Steve Jobs, and plugged in his guitar to demonstrate Garageband! This album demonstrates John's brilliant guitar work, fantastic voice and mature songwriting. Every song is a gem, from the opening track "Waiting on the World to Change", to the bright and hopeful tunes "Belief", "The Heart of Life" and right on through to the bluesy and visceral sounds of "I'm Gonna Find Another You". The songs tend to grow on you, so the more you listen the more enjoyment you will get out of this great record. Highly recommended!

- I wanted to love it

John's CD's have held a permanent spot in my 6-disc player for longer than I can remember. There is something so comforting about the sound of his voice that always carries me off to a good place. So when I heard his new CD was coming out on Sept 12, I put a big X on my calendar and counted down the days with great anticipation. Finally the day arrived and I excitedly downloaded the album from iTunes. After listening to it for the first time, I felt a little stunned... or empty. Hmmm, it wasn’t the same brilliance that I was so fond of, it seemed. But that’s OK, I thought, I never judge a CD after just one listen. So I listened to it again, and again. After 4 spins through the player, I still wasn’t feeling it. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great songs, but there are also some fillers. Overall, I was left with the feeling that something was missing. I hate to say it, but I think I was expecting more from John Mayer. Its still a good CD -or maybe slightly better than average. His songwriting has definitely matured and the album has a different feel to it than previous works. I do give him credit for that - he is demonstrating growth as an artist. Still, after 4 listens it feels a little flat. Sorry John, I wanted to love it! Maybe it will take another turn or two to grow on me.

- Quite Impressive

John Mayer's evolved. His original pop music was really, really boring and not that interesting but his new album, Continuum, is quite an improuvement. I listen to songs like I Don't Trust Myself and hear that soothing trumpet melody in the background and it feels like home to me. Mayer finds this way to infuse this bluesy sound to a pop record that blows my mind every time I hear it. His stuff just sounds so cool to the ears, it's fantastic. I'll give the runthrough... Music: Guitar - John Mayer can play the guitar, there's no doubt about that. 4/5 Other - The infusion of other musical styles and instruments are perfect. 5/5 Vocals: Mayer finds this way to be unhappy, yet happy at the same time when he belts out his trademarked blues. It's still the same, but I feel it's evolved a little. 4/5 Conclusion: He may look like a child molestor, but the guy can make a record. 4/5 Verdict: Buy it.

- Shazaam!

Dear John Mayer, This piece of work is extraordinary! Best album of the year by far. Thank you for taking the time to put out quality work. And may others in your genre stand up and take note (Dave Matthews). This is inspired work that deserves recognition. Thank you, thank you, thank you! xo

- haaa

whatever this has like 1 simple song onit...

- Once again

John has perfected another great albam. His music puts warmth to your heart.. And he also knows how to JUST ROCK OUT!!!!

- My wife loves John Mayer

Another great album to enjoy. Smooth and easy to listen to, you will love it.

- Best Yet!

I've heard this album countless times already and its absoloutley stunning. A musical masterpiece if you will. It's crafted down to the finest note and lyric and represents who Mayer really is as a musician. A must buy for music lovers!

- Another great album from a great Artist

I just don't think John Mayer can do anything wrong. More songs in the same sort of style as before but with enough of a change to keep fans interested. Wow!

- Welcome back Mr Mayer

This new album feels as though it was a long time coming and with a bit more of an acoustic-soulful feel and a bit less of the hard bass-drum lines, John's ultimately kept his individual style that alot of people around the world have grown to love. What can I say - this young man is a genius with a guitar in his hands (fantastic live for those who haven't had the opportunity)
