- WOW

5 stars enough said.

- When Life Changes, Change with it...

When you grow up and leave your youth behind, it's time to take stock of who you are and why you are and get back to the basics. That is exactly what he's done on Born and Raised. These songs are pure and uncomplicated. They make for an amazing soundtrack for the open road. Just let them play around the horn a few times and you'll find parts of your soul that connect with his lyrics & emotion. This isn't Continuum, and that's a good thing. Let this stand on its own and enjoy it for the honest and pure music that it is. Here are my faves: Queen of California The Age of Worry Shadow Days Speak for Me Something Like Olivia (guys, we've all lived this song) Love Is A Verb Walt Grace's Submarine Test (it starts slowly, but once the story begins you'll be hooked) Whisky, Whisky, Whisky

- A perfect album

Ten years old but still not on sale…waiting…it’s so good

- Ain't Nothin' Like John Myer

margomercy july 20, 2013 Born and Raised is waay different from all of Mayer's previous albums. Walt Graces is a great tune but so are all the ohers when you like John Mayer. If you want something different from the same ol' same ol' download this album, sit back and relax.

- I miss the Blues/Jazz Mayer of old

Sorry John Mayer, I just can't follow down this new musical path you're on. But I hope it gives you great success! I just miss the old style of music when you were rocking the blues and some jazz. I don't miss the ultra pop at all actually, that's not my complaint here. I just don't like country twang, or at least I don't like country twang with you since I do like some country music.

- Great and classic Mayer

I love Mayer music...the man is a genius musically. This album is a new flavor...and I already want seconds.

- Fabulous!

Absolutely in love with every song on this album! John Mayer is perfect! Keep up the awesome work!!!

- The beauty in this music is palpable

The chord transitions are so delicious and the stories told so unique that John Mayer could become accepted in the same sentence as Bob Dylan. He nailed this album in every way. “Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey” is an honest confession but that’s all that is needed for folks in recovery to hear. I like this album more than words can say, and that’s why we have music.

- Identity Crisis

Most unusual and disappointing album to date. I love John and this album is ok (assuming you cannot sing or play a guitar worth a lick), but it does not capture his potential. He needs to go grow up and figure out who he is. Moving to Montana after saying some stupid things and doing a Don Was album is not the solution.

- Solid

This is the best writing from our boy John Mayer. The lyrics on this album are too good. Personal and profound.

- Born and Raised

This is one of my personal favorite John Mayer albums. This album has a great flow, track after track. This album also has great vocals, great drum solos, and great guitar solos as well. Finally, the instruments wrap around the vocals like no other, and intertwine perfectly. Definitely looking forward to the next limited play album, and extended play album from John Mayer.

- Great

My favorite album of all time. Wall to wall. Not a bad song on it. Thank you so much for Born and Raised. Mayer really knows how to write a song

- Authentic

This is an excellent authentic feeling record. Hats off John.

- Emotional and Raw

I love the vibe of this album. It was given to me as a gift 4 years ago and I have never stopped listening to it. John Mayer is talented and intentional. One of my favorite artists. Inspiring.

- :)

one word. Talent. can't express how much talent is put into these albums. this being one of the best by John. he is a true inspiration, favorite musician..no doubt about it

- like nothing he has ever done

I can honestly say that he can not do any worst than this from now on. Thank god he did Paradise Valley. This album doesn't compare to the others. It lost it's JM charm and talent. He strayed too far from his roots. I get he was trying to mature but the sound wasn't right.

- Brilliant!!

Honestly, is there really a bad John Mayer song?? He’s a master of music and the fact that he gives us something different with each song is amazing.

- Good album

Nice stuff. A change from where he was at a few years ago.

- JOHN EFFFING MAYER

This album is so so good. And seeing him perform live is even better. #mayerisback

- Love this album

Cant get enough!

- outstanding

This is the best album John mayer has every made. It is different than all of his other albums and I can tell that he put a lot of effort to make this album a true masterpiece. I love this album and this shows that an artist does not have to be attached to a certain genre. Just be your self and John shows this in the album. Every song on here has a hidden meaning and after you have listened to the songs for a while it will lace onto to you. I believe that this cultivates all of his ideas and really shows he has matured as an artist. He really displayed that he one of the best in the industry and I would recommend this album to anyone.

- Another Round of Amazing

I love every single song. Your phenomenal once again impressed and blown away...

- Blues/Rock/Folk/Country

This album will grow on you if you give it a chance. Been a Mayer fan since 2007 and this is totally different which is what I love.

- One of my favorite albums of all time

I have listened to this over and over. Absolutely genius and it continues to grow on me and never gets old.

- Mayer turning a corner

I really like how John's music is evolving. Every song on this album is worth listening to. I would say it is a blend of folk and pop, with a little country thrown it. It's very interesting and warm. I hope he continues to make this kind of music.

- A New Genre

" What is this im listing to you ask? WHY its John Mayer! The diverse, mindblowing genre!" Mayer pulls through every time as far as im concerned. If it was up to me he would be his own genre. I love this man.

- Not happy

Honestly, I wish I could get a refund for this album download. What was Mayer thinking?

- Seriously ...

The mark of an amazing artists is there ability to be a chameleon in different genres. John Mayer proves that he's not a good pop musician, but an amazing artist. Good job John.

- Younger generation

I'm part of the younger generation, & I am in love with John Mayer. I wish people my age would listen to him much more! <3

- Meh.

It’s not that I think any of the songs are bad. Some I like, some I don’t. Mostly, it’s just a very dull album. It strays very far from what we’ve heard on previous John Mayer albums. You could say that he abandoned his fan base with this one in search of something else. It’s not something I would recommend to a friend, whether they were a previous fan of John Mayer or not.

- Don't go in expecting something Pop

This album is amazing... People just need to sit down and listen to the lyrics and just feel the music. You can't go in expecting something pop or too much blues. This album is not for everyone, and that's exactly what he wanted. I think he really got his song writing and recording technique down in this album can't wait for the 2016 release of his new one

- He never let's me down!

I looooove this album!! It's a must get! Can't wait to see him in born and raised tour!!!!!

- Best John Mayer album

He shines a'plenty, but he stays within the song and lets the songs and the band shine also. Really like this one, and have liked it for a long time.

- This grew on me hard

This and continuum all day

- Late-comer

I am late to the party of this album but timeless music is never out of style. This album is absolutely fantastic. John always carves a lane of his own. Truly amazed at this body of work. It's a classic album with very heartfelt lyrics and melodies from start to finish. There isn't a song I don't like on this album. :) So good!! I guess will now explore the one after this. Lol.

- fresh

something different about this album.. sounds a little western.. you'd hear a lotta harmonica etc. i guess you could say there was a lot of influence from folk music

- Just sad...

What happened to John Mayer??? Continuum was his last great album but that was really the end of it. What's up with this "western" crap? I certainly don't like it, and there's too many sappy lyrics and not enough of the old John, aka amazing guitar playing and solos. What happened???

- Born & Raised

This album will never get the credit it deserves. Totally one of my favorite of his albums, can't get enough. Paradise Valley is amazing as well, but they are both very different. I love the difference from this album and his others. Well done JM, well done.

- Great album!

I can't even tell you what genre this album is, but I can tell you it's great. This is one of my personal favorites out of all his albums.

- Refreshing

I love this album. It’s folk-y and personal and it makes me happy. I just started listening to it again recently and it sounds like he has been playing a lot of it on his solo tour so yay!

- I know Country; this ain't Country

For those saying this album is too country don't obviously listen to country. This is so far from a country album that an album could be. John Mayer is distinctive and has is own genre of music. It fits in the John Mayer style. He has always pushed boundaries and diversified his sound. I hear more bluesy than country. Great Album once again from him

- I appreciate Born and Raised, but not what followed.

Walt Grace's Submarine Test shows John's gift for storytelling and lyricism packaged with a nice melodic line that sticks in your head. I enjoyed the flow of the rest of the album as well. Obviously the stylings of this album are a marked departure from his previous installment, but John Mayer the person was also making a marked departure from his "previous installment" as a person. So all of that makes sense, and it really comes through in his single "Shadow Days" in particular. However, you can only write one album's worth of personal redemption, and I honestly think John's spent after this one. The evidence is in the entirety of Paradise Valley. That album isn't worth the crumbs of any of his other albums...Anyways, I hope I'm wrong and that John somehow manages to reinvent himself a third time. To clarify what I'd like to see, my favorite albums are 1) Continuum, 2) Battle Studies, 3) Room for Squares 4)Born and Raised 5) Heavier Things. Your opinions may differ, but that's quite alright.

- Terrific

Subtle story telling with a beautiful melody throughout. This is not an album to be listened to song by song, but all at once. Put it on and let it play. Truly incredible music.

- Nooooo!!!!!

I can't believe after CONTINUUM and Battle Studies, he had to go and move to Montana and start doing COUNTRY. I just can't accept it. Move back to L.A., John, please! Country is not your style!

- Way underrated...

This album didn’t get the attention it deserved. Amazing... just amazing some of your best work🙌🏼💕😭

- Simply amazing

Simply amazing.

- Want to Like This

John Mayer is an absolutely fabulous talent, and a strength of his is his ability to absorb myriad influences (Clapton, Stevie Ray, Albert King, many more), and from those influences create his own sound, This album, though, is, time and time again, ruined by the lead guitar work that, on “Shadow Days,” for example, is the expropriation of the Marshall Tucker Band guitar sound: I didn’t like it when the Marshall Tucker Band did it, and I don’t like it any better here.

- This album always puts me in a great, chill mood

A truly great listen. Mayer finds new ways to inspire us... Thank you!

- True Masterpiece!

This is not only Mayers best, most complete album but one of the best albums ever! One thing you always get with Mayer is well thought out compositions and deep/ insiightful lyrics. His music making and songwriting is second to none. You have to appreciate the fact that he puts so much work and love into it and always gives you his best. The more you listen to 'Born and Raised,' the better it gets. Respect the art Yeah it is different than his other works but every album of his that he has produced has been more mature and quite different than his previous. The same people said the same thing about Heavier Things when it came out and Continuum as well, If you want to hear one of those albums then listen to them. You wouldn't expect a true artist to paint the same picture over and over again? Then why do some critics want that out of musicians? The bottom line is that, like it or not, artists evolve. I like the direction he has headed and I will buy whatever Mayer records regardless of the direction he goes because his art is so well composed and we can always count on him to give us high quality music!

- Great cd

Worth the wait, every song delivers.

- The Best!

A different John Mayer yet still very, very beautiful! I can feel his soul and his love for music in this album, and how genuine each lyric is for every song. Money well spent for me here!!

- No good!

I don't know where to start with this album. Boring and uninspired is probably the best way to describe it. It's fair to say John Mayer's best work is behind him not in front of him. Rather than work to his strengths he just does whatever seems to interest him in the moment and not really care whether he's suited to it all. Country is certainly case in point. He does a really bad job of it. I won't be so quick to buy his next album that's for sure.

- Great lyrics; derivative music.

The lyrics are pure Mayer; the albums melody's are derivative of every tune/melody/riff in the last 50 years of country music. Liked Shadow Days though. I don't want him to repeat himself endlessly, but how tiring the music is as it stands. I used to feel upbeat listening to him, but now I want to go to sleep.

- Fantastic :)

The Age of Worry - John Mayer perfection!! My new favourite song :)

- Fantastic Album

This album is defintely a departure from anything that John has done before, but I believe it rates as highly as the popular Room for Squares or Continuum. It takes a couple of listens to get used to the new sound and style, but once your in there, the songs are infectious, and the soundcapes and musical arrangements are fantastic in their simplicity. With each listen, you'll discover something new. Its an album you can listen from beginning to end, which is a rarity now in the world of disposable rock, pop and r'n'b. Close the lights, put the headphones and let this album take you on an an amazing journey!

- UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!

With a very eclectic music collection and an album for every mood and occasion I find it hard to put this album away at all. This type of quality doesn't come along often. Every song is brilliant ! I recommend this album to everyone. It's sure to set the mood for a lazy afternoon or whatever...... JUST BUY IT!! Two thumbs up from me:) Thanks for the music John!!

- Love it

Have been a fan of John Mayer since I bought Room for Squares. I have bought every album since. Every album is a musical journey of life and it is really wonderful listening to his stories. Born and Raised has country music elements to it. It is quite different from the previous ones, musically anyway. The lyrics are still warm and inviting and touch on life experiences we can all relate to. I guess that is why I love listening to his music so much. If you can accept the new direction on this album, and not compare the death out of it to his previous work, then you will find yourself listening to it over and over again.

- I like John Mayer but...

If I'm going to listen to this kinda music I'l stick with Ray Lamontagne - any day. Just doesn't grab me at all. Nowhere near the same insight as in Continuum.

- LOVE

Love love love this album, i listen to it all year round’ John can do no wrong in my eyes.

- Soundtrack to my life

This album is certainly a change for John Mayer, although a very likeable change! Following up a much darker 'Battle Studies', the much more carefree 'Born and Raised' never fails to set me in a good mood. And 'Shadow Days' sums up the feeling of the album, a weight has been lifted off Mayer's shoulders and his "shadow days are over". There was an instant connection for me with 'Born and Raised', both lyrically and musically. And whilst I love every song on this album (which I believe separates a good album from a great album), two stand-outs for me would have to be the title track 'Born and Raised', about Mayer's emotional growing up, and 'Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967', in which Mayer really tells a great story, with a beautiful melody and spine-tingling lyrics. I can understand that everyone has different musical tastes, but this album has really struck a chord with me.

- Great work

I have always been a Mayer fan and this album is just perfect. Not a song I dislike on this album

- Too country and western.

Good album but way to country and western compared to the 'Where the light is' and 'assassin' JM I love. Listening to this album from even heartbreak warfare is a vast difference.

- Melodically magnificent!

John has produced another brilliant album indeed! There's no solos to show how much of a guitar freak he is but honestly this album Doesn't need it. Its Simple. Soothing. Smooth. Stunning. Loving the folk influence a lot and enjoying his ever clever and honest lyrics. beautiful melodies and harmonies. Walt grace's submarine test an instant fav for me! Pour yourself some bourbon, sit back and enjoy!

- A truly awesome album!

Initially I was scared of this whole country phase he was going through and was disappointed about this album. But when I heard it properly and gave it a chance, wow! It definitely grows on you. One of John Mayer's best albums, musically and lyrically. I love every song on there. Great melodies and beautiful lyrics that are really expressive, soulful and deep. My only criticism is that he gets a haircut and takes that hat off!! :)

- This album is excellent!!

I wasn't sure if I would like it but I have come to love this! the quality of the recording is much better than the battle studies album. I don't know why people are saying its not as good as the other albums, it is just as good; if you listen to the lyrics you will understand that they are just as powerful as any other! Love the album, I hope he comes and tours for this!! Awesome

- Amazing!

Love the different style that John has gone for with this album! So versatile but still with that classic John Mayer sound we all know and love :)

- Another masterpiece by John Mayer

What a perfect blend of John's amazing voice, his unique guitar, and incredible lyrics, combined with the captivating sound space of the entire band! As always, music at its best. Thank you, John.

- Amazing

Born and raised by john mayer i think is one of his best, (this and continuum) I had recently purchased this album, and had contemplated buying this album many times, and today i finally bought it, and i'm glad i did, this album is unique and completely different to his previous albums, gone are the days of continuum, room for squares and heavier things, fans of mayer since his first album may be disappointed by the lack of guitar solos unique to john mayer or the absence of his iconic guitar. But i believe that you have to look past it's country exterior and just listen to it, the album is amazingly written, you cannot deny that mayer has grown not only as an artist but as a human being, songs like shadow days clearly show us that he has grown and matured from the john we saw in that issue of rolling stone. To those who are disappointed by the massive change, he has not forgotten his blues roots as 'something like Olivia' is clearly blues. The album has a kind of vintage feel to it and i love that, and i could easily think that those who lived in the 60's or 70's would be listening to this music. I hope that john continues to grow as an artist and creates more amazing albums like this and that more people will stumble across his music like i did. I highly recommend this album and if you are having second thoughts about buying this, buy it you won't regret it as it appeals to me a 13 year old girl.

- Half a great album from John

John continues to straddle the fence between brilliance and mediocrity. I want to give it 4 stars, but it just falls a little short.

- The best

John Mayer is on a new level with this yet again great work each album he makes is different from the last and that is why is still topping the charts after 11 years love the hard work this guy puts in every time he makes an album just awesome

- Absolute Quality

This album is basically all acoustic but that doesn't mean it's not a great album. Other fans of his previous albums like myself might be a tad disappointed at first to not hear mayer's revered stratocaster chops but listen to this album a few times and you'll be hooked. it can bring calm to any space, every song is quality. mayer's lyrics are inwardly directed for the most part and reveal an artist that is growing up and coming to terms with his own mistakes experiences. I hope people give this album a chance because if they do they might just find the best thing that they've heard in years as i did and a more than worthy addition to an already impressive catalogue. 4 1/2 out of 5

- Hmm

John Mayer has been my favourite artist for about 8 years now and I have loved everything he has done... until now. Thoroughly disappointed. Thank gosh he is already writing the next one. Bring back the blues!

- Beautiful album

It's John Mayer - enough said! Lyrical genius, sultry voice, guitar freak.

- John Mayer born and raised :)

I'm a 13 year old girl but I love John Mayer, his voice is so swift and calming and has a wonderful guitar riff

- John Clayton Mayer … WOW!!!!!

LOVE this album. Can't wait to see him do it live when he comes back to Australia. EXCELLENT!!!!

- Great Album

Love it and I like the country feel to it. Every song is good. This is music with meaning.

- This is great!

I have never really noticed John Mayer until I purchased this for "something different"- now he is one of my favourite artists! I can't stop listening to the album.

- LOVE IT

its classic John Mayer but still so fresh. I love it so much!!! worth the 2 year wait.

- Does it again

This album is growing on me by the second. Initially I was scared of this whole 'country thing', but I really needed to just give it a chance. Musically it's just brilliant. Beautiful, warm, sweet. Lyrically its even more amazing. Must buy.

- Straight From the Heart

John Mayer has made this album for his fans, so they can follow his journey, and it's come from the heart. I particularly love Age of Worry, Walt Graces Submarine Test and Born and Raised. I think that each of his albums has taken on a new sound each time. Open your mind and your heart and embrace his new sound, you wont be disappointed!

- My First Mayer Album

So earthy, love his guitar work.. Allan

- Warming to it.

Johns the best no question. He's captain America :) on guitar. I love his songs like slow dancing continuum cd was awesome. This album is awesome variety is good but a few more like continuum would be awesome John. This is still great and worth the money.

- Great easy listening album.

I love nearly everything he sings, he is just so relaxing and calming to listen to. This album is a grower and doesn't disappoint me at all.

- Amazing album!

John has really outdone himself with this one. This an absolutely beautiful record. If Born and Raised doesn't win Album of the Year at the Grammys next year, there is seriously something wrong with the music industry.

- Born and Raised

I love this man with all my heart and soul, but I was disappointed with Battle Studies. Having said that this new Album has returned my faith that the real John is still there. This offering is another facet of his personality and it has all the good qualities that make John a musician's favourite. Melody and well structured songs with meaning. It has a country flavour and though I am not a country fan John gives it soul and enough blues to make you listen to it over and over again. Stand out tracks to me are "If I ever Get around to living" and "Shadow Days" I also like "Something Like Olivia" Over all a great Album. Cant wait to hear it Live!

- absolutely perfect

this is the first john mayer album i bought and honestly it is amazing; couldn't say anything i don't like about it! BUY IT! and check out his other stuff! his talent is addictive

- What happened to Walt?!

First time I listened to the album, the new direction took me a little by surprise. Second time around, I noticed something new. Listens 3-222 or thereabouts pretty much confirmed that this is one of my favorite albums to date. 'Walt Grace's submarine test' is by far one of my new favorite songs, after 'Clarity' and 'Stop this train.' Another Grammy sweep by master-lyricist JM I'm thinking! Definitely worth buying, especially if you're after songs with meaning.

- ❤

Amazing album Loving the new sound

- Reflective brilliance

Beautifully restrained and well harmonised; the ability to make an album as introspective as this while carrying an injury is a true testament to his musical ability and fighting spirit. His best effort yet!

- one of my favourite albums

This John mayer album is one of my favourites as it has a more chilled out folk style to it my favourite track is speak for me as johns guitar playing is superb although i love all his music i still think this is his best yet

- one of the best

just so you know, i love john mayer. before any person would try to bash me because I'm a jm fan, i honestly would say, this is one of the best albums he made. i love Continuum because it was the first Mayer album I ever listened to and that was his best studio album he recorded. i understand the hate on this album but it is one of the albums that everyone would love slowly. It's not the easiest album to love if you don't like the folk, country and americana feel to this album. I admit I love this album and thank god I ran to JB HIFI on my lunch break when it was released then I bought the album on iTunes and everyone thought I was really stupid for buying the album twice (because I happen to want to have a digital copy and the actual album itself). I like how John expresses himself in this album. I like how he writes his lyrics. I like how he moves me. I think John Mayer grew up in this album. I like how he matured. He seems lonely though. Still through the JM community and posts about him made this album commercially successful. We all know he can't promote this album quite well because of granuloma and he can't tour for a while, luckily this album was a success. I still think I'm not stupid for buying this album twice, it's just I like to support him on wherever path he is going with his career. I still would never forget how he changed my life with his lyrics.

- John can do better...

For anyone else, this album would probably be fine, a good album, however this isn't what made me regard John Mayer as one of the greatest singer songwriters of our day. It lacks the exuberant energy & introspective exploration of his earlier albums and to be honest, to me, it didn't really feel like an inspired undertaking.

- His best album yet

Bought this CD from a Service Station in Northern NSW on our way driving around Australia and I have to say the depth to the songs and story telling is refreshing in this day and age of plastic music with no soul , love him , hate him , the guy can put a tune together and keep you captivated and entertained with his voice and music , this stayed in the 6 stacker for 8000klm's , that's gotta tell you something

- Love it, Love it,

I have lost count at the amount of times I have thought about buying this album, having never really listened or heard much of John's music …. Yesterday I succumbed to the temptation, having read excellent review after excellent review, I decided to buy it, and boy am I glad I did. It is a lovely collection of songs perfect for relaxing to, driving to, chilling out to, doing your chores to, remarkable, one of the best albums I have bought in a long time, and it won't be my last John Mayer album ….

- I hope his Shadow Days come back.

This is so disappointing. Bring back the days of Continuum and and Room For Squares! If his Shadow Days are really over and this is what happened to his music because of it... I want his Shadow Days back! I loved you more when you weren't a cowboy John. Come back from the country... I will welcome you with very open arms.

- Sensational!!

He can do no wrong; just amazing!

- Perfect.

This grew on me like all JM's albums do... It's the slow burn that makes them magically brilliant.

- Great Again

New Sound, broken down but still Mayer. As always Lyrics rule the Album. Outstanding songwriting. Whilst the Jazzy blues will be his Forte, the bluegrass sound is good. Please find Him a girlfriend though, sounds like he needs one.Plenty of regret in his words.

- Love

Everyday i listen to this album I love it more and more everyday.
