I had never purchased a John Mayer album before buying Born & Raised but after listening to this album several times over I quickly went on to buy his entire back catalogue. Every album has exceptional tracks, but Born & Raised is definitely my absolute favorite - such an amazing vibe and I love every track. Have to admit it's been on repeat for almost two weeks because nothing else comes close to being as enjoyable!

A lot of people thought he peaked with Continuum and his earlier music but John Mayer has pulled has most amazing album yet with Born and Raised. Each song flows into the other and it's hard to single one out as the key track however there is the single 'Shadow Days', the lead track 'Queen of California', title track 'Born and Raised' and my personal favourite 'Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967' which stand out. Having said that i love the other songs also, "Something Like Olivia' provides an upbeat touch to the album preparing you for the more sombre tracks such as 'Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey' further into the album. Mayer delivers a delightful story and it's hard to stop listening to this album once you've started, i personally have listened to it almost on repeat since it's release and it keeps getting better. I thoroughly recommend this album if you're a fan of laid back, bluesy, classic alt rock or if you don't know what i mean just have a quick preview or better yet just buy it, You won't be dissapointed. I rate this a solid 5 stars.

Heaps of good songs to listen to

Honestly, this album rocks! The delicate instruments and harmonica perfected with John's voice. The use of country elements added an element of simplicity and peace. With his soulful tone and lyrics, I could totally relate some of my personal experience with some of the songs. I've seen some people dislike John's "long hair" & "country elements", but for me it shows that John is a great musician and able to explore a variety of sounds within his own style. In the end, his creativity in music makes him much more than other pop singers.

In a risky attempt to stray away from his trademark blues and jazz inspired sound he has made a country album. this is not john mayer and not the sound I love. I'm disappointed.

This album is very close to being up there with a good 70's album, like Gordon Lightfoot & such. John Mayer could keep some of this kind of rhythm going without ever get me upset. AND why hasn't "If I Ever Get Around to Living" become like first or second on the buy-ratings. This whole album is good. Every song should only be available "album only" or just emulate my album-purchase style... buy the CD! I'll need a new copy soon. It's getting worn out, in a good way.

I've always loved Mayer, and always will. Any criticism this album gets is ridiculous, because every song is great in it's own way. This is real music.

This album is not what we are used to from John but still different is not bad. His a versatile artist and he has that freedom to play around with genres because he's extremely talented. EXTREMELY RECOMMEND IT

JM has definately found his groove. This is an amazing album, and sjows what this guy can do when he isnt writing music for the masses! This album is so honest and mellow, and filled with brilliant nuance and great lyrics. Definatly his best yet in my opinion. I wish we could get hold of more songs like this from him!

It's true in this album, it's less rock and much less Continuum. But I just have to say this: Listen to Age of Worry and Submarine, through earphones. If those two don't rekindle your love for the blues rock John, then yes this album won't be fulfilling for you. For me, those two are the best tracks on this album.

I hate people that say, "I don't like this album because its so different then the other ones I love." Ok John straight up told everyone this album was to be completely different. He was going to show a different side of himself. He's a musical genius! Every song is so mellow and so meaningful. Don't just hear the words, listen to them. This album has a country vibe to it which I love. I hate country because of the way the artists sing. But John puts his angelic voice with country riffs. It's a masterpiece!

In his usual fashion, Mayer reinvents himself yet again. And like every other time, the result is an incredibly unique, captivating masterpiece. Since his early days, he has shyed away from showing off his skills on the guitar and put all of his focus on the lyrics and delivery over simple but very catchy tunes. This is by far Mayer's most dramatic and impressive reinvention. His maturity and understanding of himself and his music is more than evident on every track, from the nostalgic and powerful “Born and Raised” track to the analogous tale of his struggles told in “Walt Grace’s Submarine Test.” This may be his best album yet, if not for the classic Continuum. Definitely worth a purchase on iTunes, you won't regret it.

Liked it the first few times listening to it, but it took until about the 3rd time to fall in love with it. It's a little different, but still an absolute masterpiece.

I love the blues feel of this album! John really expressed a side of him that Is different in many ways! He has done many different things with his music like with the John mayer trio and I think this blues album is one to remember

I have been in love with 'Room for Squares' since I was introduced to John Mayer in 2003. I didn't think anything could compete with the way that CD makes me feel. But 'Born and Raised' has done just that. I can't get enough of listening to it. I'm am completely OBSESSED!! Worth every penny!!

Born and Raised is an innovative new step for John. Long term JCM fans and musicians will fall in love with the album more easily, but everyone should give it a chance because John executes the organic cowboy sound perfectly. This coming from a young guitarist and a huge blues fan of JM, BB King, Hendrix, SRV, etc... I believe that John is one of very few artists capable of adapting his style to his maturing mind and heart and putting feelings into music apathetic of what mainstream listeners will think. Think about it, Room for Squares and Heavier Things were both primarily "pop" music. John then showcased his abilities as a blues guitarist through Continuum. In Try JM's mastery as a guitarist really shines through, and at Where The Light Is (Live in LA), it is obvious that John can play and sing several genres perfectly and put on an amazing show. Battle Studies took a step towards a new John but with his Playboy fiasco John kind of fell off the radar for a bit. But Born and Raised is JM's return as a new and matured man. Now on to the review. In Born and Raised you can feel John's sincerity through every song. Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey, A Face to Call Home, and Born and Raised are a few of the deeper acoustic driven songs that I've liked so far. Queen of California and Something Like Olivia both prove John still has the style and ability to create intricate guitar pieces, but is putting his efforts more into creating relatable, well-written, organic sounding music now. The harmonica, pedal steel, and violin accompanying John on his new Martin guitar throughout the album give Born and Raised a unique feel that is hard not to enjoy. I feel pretty lame for writing a review this long but trust me the album was worth the wait, even if you are a huge fan of his old style. Just give it a chance.

John Mayer has grown up since his last album. I have always loved how John Mayer loves to change his own image, genre, and feel of his own music. After reading his story about moving to Montana, I fell in love with the album all over again. Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967, was a song that struck most interesting to me. It was a song unlike I had ever heard before, it was himself portrayed through Walt Grace. At first, I didn't quite understand it. I went to read the lyrics and after reading his own story from the past 3 years, it made so much sense. It became much more relatable. John Mayer knows how to keep his fans intrigued and excited to see what he will come out with next, and he did just that with his Born and Raised album. 5 STARS!

Don't get me wrong, this is a good album, but come on! It's John Mayer! My expectations were a little higher. Out of all his albums, I like this one the least. Some of his songs are sounding country, and I don't know how I feel about that. What happened to the soft-rocker who sang No Such Thing and Waiting On The World To Change? The only really good song on this album is The Age of Worry.

Love John's new Album. I think he can do just about any genre he feels like doing.

I play harmonica mandolin and guitar... After listening to a couple songs I was in that kinda trance that musicians fall under when improvising... This was album I was meant to buy.

Why are there so many people wishing for Mayer to release something that's reminiscient of his past work? He'll do it if he feel's like it. I, for one, welcome this new change, and I really love this album. In fact, if it's not country, then it's the closest to country music that I'll ever admit to loving. I'm a dyed in the wool, true blue, through and through Rock 'N Roll fan, and hearing this new direction from Mayer is a wonderful and gratifying breath of fresh air. I'm really enjoying how many big musicians are doing their own versions of Americana themed music. The track that really brings this home for me is "Love Is A Verb". Man, this is inspiration at its finest.

I was never a John Mayer fan until I listened to "Continuum." Even after hearing that album, I figured it was probably a "one off" and I had heard what would inevitable be his one and only truly great record. Then Born and Raised was released and I realized Continuum is really where John Mayer turned a corner, and since then he seems to only be getting better. This album, Born and Raised, is the best record I've heard in years and is a perfect mix of soul, rock, and folk. But most of all, you can't help but appreciate the clear honesty in the songwriting by perhaps one of the most intrinsic popular songwriters in music today. Give this record two or three listens and you'll quickly realize you'll probably be listening to it for the rest of your life.

John Mayer's recent effort into musical adulthood has taken a reflective westwardly detour from his decidedly urban blues collaborations with established industry talents. Born and Raised takes Mayer fans out of the dingy, smoke filled rock and blues clubs and classic urban haunts we've come to expect from his journey from 20 something singer/songwriter/guitarist to bona fide industry hot shot work horse and promptly plops them down in the mythical plains of Western starry skyed love songs. His exodus from poppy blues rock towards the more western soul filled ballads and haunting guitar licks longing for true love and a sense of home directs the listener to slow down, stop and listen to their heart and to come to terms what the definition of love is to them. Make no mistake, Born and Raised is classic Mayer and will find it's way naturally into it's place among his life long works. On the other hand this latest musical endeavor will neither define him as an artist nor leave the most ardent fan satisfied. Surely the best is yet to come from one of America's very best musical talents to come along in the past 30 years.

Yet another great album!

I am going to see John in the summer when he plays in my town. I bought this CD to really get to know his new music and to enjoy his concert even more so knowing the songs but I am completely addicted! I love every single song! I bought this CD for my brother who is a musician with a similar style. He plays acoustic guitar and harmonica and I told him he MUST learn some of these songs. What a gift John has with his amazing voice and song writing genius! Thank you John! So happy he got through the throat scare. I can't wait to see him live. I even have my Mother falling in love with his music and she is a senior citizen. Lol! I hope he includes Why Georgia which is one of my favorites besides Shadow Days!

I hear more of blues then I do country and its amazing!

Honestly I have skimmed over this album many times in the last 4 months and really just disliked at first but now that my ears are tuned to it I see the blues and mellowness which is absolutely GREAT

Here's the thing, the album is not John's typical line up. Its a nice, easy, mature sound, and is certainly like no other Mayer album, and I really like it for that. That being said, it is a little bit more country than i expected and there is almost no fast paced song on this album. It's still a fantastic album and can't be missed.

The more I listen to this album, the more comforting I find it. He covers various aspects of life and with clear lyrics, an easily enjoyable album.

It is different then his other albums but it is better then i thought it would be.

I'm a HUGE mayer fan and I have always argued him to be one of the greatest guitar players ever. But this album just isn't John mayer to me. It needs to be about him and the guitar not these sappy country sounding songs. I was a huge fan of his blues music and I hope he releases some more blues music in the future

It definitely was out of John Mayer's style of music. But the lyrics are just as good as any other record. I would describe this album as more western sounding. Not country at all. I applaud John for going out of his normal style of music, and making something completely new for him, and his listeners. All around a good album.

His best album yet! I cannot stop listening.

The problem with John Mayer is he never really stays consistent in his genres. Comparing this album to my favorite previous one, Continuum, it sounds like a completely different artist. This record is frankly too country for him, and it sounds out of nature. But I give him credit for experimenting with his sound.

I felt compelled to write a review, finally (15 albums now! WOW!) from "Your Body is a Wonderland" to "Why Georgia", or "Victoria" to "City Love", "I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)" to "Say" the endless list of songs that will forever stay in my iTunes library. John I want to thank you for Continuing (pardon the pun) song after song, album after album creating amazing fantastic beautiful music. Born & Raised is just one more to add to an already sensational life of work. I feel blessed to have had you happen in my generation. Its so awesome to follow you through your career. Keep it up man! You rock!!

Honest. Raw. Unique. Yet indistinguishably John. Possibly his best album to date.

This cd is boss just like all his others but not as good as continuum

I love how John Mayer can write and record music in pretty much any genre and good for him for doing so. There are so many artists out there who put out album after album and they all sound the same so every time Mayer puts out a new recording I can't wait to hear how different it's going to be from the previous one. Born and Raised certainly doesn't disappoint with such excellent songwriting, with each song telling a story, whether it be about Walt Grace's Submarine or about coming to terms with his own maturity over the last 2 years. I was lucky enough to hear Queen of California and Something Like Olivia live in Vegas last year and have been anticipating the release of this album ever since. Even if you aren't a huge Mayer fan, give this album a try and you just might become one!

Man, the 'firsties' got to the board fast this morning. Generally suspiciious of major names 'gettin back to their roots', but John pulls it off and he 'looks marvellous' while doing it. Gravel road likes Born and Raised (reprise) - more stripped down arrangement.

Three letters ; W-O-W

A great combination of rock and folk and pop and everything in between. Classic John with so many wonderfully new twists. There's so much emotion jammed into it that it's practically overwhelming, but in a terribly good way. There aren't a lot of words to describe the music - just listen and you'll feel it, you'll understand so many new things and you'll be so satisfied and still left wanting even more - but if I had to choose just a few, they would be "expectation-blowing, heart-pounding perfection."

Well, I had written out an extensive review to the album, and then I clicked back to my recently added to listen to one of the songs I was discussing, and I clicked back to the iTunes Store and it was all gone. Something seems wrong with that iTunes... Fix it. Anyways, the bottom line is that this album is genius songwriting, and even though some may find it draggy because of all the mid-tempos, Mayer saves himself through the sheer excellence of this group of songs. He proves he's pushing himself in the jam-section of "If I Ever Get Around To Living", where you can hear some nifty jazz licks that I didn't expect from him, despite the time he spent at Berklee. "Love is a Verb" is simple, beautiful and over too soon (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). It does start to feel a little bit like a grammar lesson, but it's brilliant nonetheless. "A Face to Call Home" ends the album on an excellent and epic note à la Coldplay. Some of his best lyrics are found on this song, - for example "You know my paper heart / The one I filled with pencil marks / I think I might've gone and inked you in". In fact, most of the album is lyrical master-class. It doesn't feel like he's just spewing out information for the sake of being honest; he's revealing things about himself in a way that is not uncomfortable, and is very calculated. "Born & Raised" goes as far as to bringing up the separation of his parents, but at no time does the listener feel awkward for Mayer. Another major factor in this album that makes it so special for me is the understated musicality. I'd just like to throw in that the inclusion of Crosby and Nash on the title track was awesome. But anyways, not everyone will get this album. It doesn't smack you in the face with blatant and impossible-to-ignore singles; it's very much an album, where you have to listen to the whole thing to appreciate its scope. I prefer this album to Continuum as a studio album; it'll be interesting to see how the two albums stack up against each other in a live setting.

Secret love.

Let's face it, most music today is brutal. It is nice see such a talented artist like Mayer playing what is considered passé . He is a great player and song writer. Old school meets young dude. Despite the negative comments, this album is fantastic. If you are a true fan you'll like this. If not, stick to your "Greatest Hits" albums of your favorite artists!

John mayer is one of my favorites and this is his best work. It has a nice mix of his old stuff with a hint of country. Buy it!

This may be very well be John Mayers best album. For sure lyrically the most complex and beautiful words he has ever wrote. Continuum may be the bar set by John for most people. But I think this is the album that proves he is not only one of the top ten best guitarists alive, but also one of the best voices and song writers of our generation. His voice has never sounded better, a touch raspier, but filled with warmth and amazing tones. It is a larger body of work than Continuum and a more focussed set of songs that come to life under the themes of self discovery, loss, love, letting go and growing up. The fidelity of this recording makes it sound like he is singing in your living room. Don Was has done a great job recording and engineering this album. This is a countryfied John Mayer that has beautiful organ keyboards, harmonica and stellar acoustic guitar playing. Standout tracks are every single one, but a few noted below really stand out: 1) A Face To Call Home, a beautiful inspirational love song, that builds to an incredible blowout finish of stunning, blazing electric guitar work that must be played loud. 2) Something Like Olivia, a very fun tongue in cheek, swinging catchy little song that is so fun and bluesy with an infectious guitar riff throughout. 3) Walt Grace's Submarine Test, 1967, this song is John's most unique and unusual writing to date. A kind of epic folk take that is unlike anything he has ever written, haunting background vocals layer in behind John's powerful quivering voice as he spins the tale of a man escaping a dull reality. I say this song is his best vocals ever and one of the best songs he has ever recorded. 4) The Age Of Worry, a sing song kind of track that is very inspirational, that you can see playing in a bar somewhere where people rally round each other singing loudly 'Worry, why should I care!' 5) Queen Of California, love the line; 'heading out west with my headphones on' A song about letting go that captures Johns journey of self discovery lately. 6) Born and Raised Stellar title track, painful self realizing lyrics, amazing harmonies equal one brilliant song. All the songs are amazing, there is a craft to this album of songs that is rarely seen anymore, a perfect album that is the new benchmark in John's career.

John Mayer never fails to impress. While Born and Raised takes on more of a folk-sounding theme, it still has the undeniable origianlity of John Mayer. Great album going into summer. Thank you for giving the world some genuine sounding music to listen to for a change.

Though this album has gone in a different direction, it is refreshing. Each song has a story. I think I expected this change somewhere in John Mayer's musical career and wasn't overly confident he'd be able to pull it off, but as other's have said, he did it again, amazing album!

I have been following John Mayer since his first album and was disappointed by his last (being too generic and 'pop'ish). I must say, this is much better and more to my liking. I can't give it five stars as Continuum would be my 'five star' pick still. Thanks for coming back, Mr. Mayer!

Very "old school" sounding. Great cruising with the windows down or sitting round the lake music

An amazing album, completely different from its predecessor, which was completely different form IT's predecessor. I could go on. For sheer versatility and the ability to embrace new musical styles to suit his state of mind, few can come through like John Mayer. From the opening bars of "Queen of California" we're taken on a mellow, contemplative journey. Songs like If I ever get around to living Walt Grace and Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey are songs belonging to a bygone, beautiful and nostalgic era. Shades of CSNY, Bob Dylan and America abound. The lack of Gramy recognition is a shocker for this beautiful album.

Okay first of all I'm a huge Mayer Fanboy and I'm not ashamed to say it buy I simply love his music! But this album is simply A-Mazing..... Song like Something Like Olivia, Shadow Days are just Flawless...... but the highlight song of this album is Queen Of California which is no doubt the best song of his carrier... Amazing John Mayer keep up the awesome work!!

Really really great work, imo his best album yet :3 even if he does look like johnny depp now. Age of worry is instantly one of my fave songs ever :D

Forget that other thing that happened last year, this is the real follow up to Continuum. Having said that, it's still really no where near peak, Continuum Mayer and I begin to worry that we won't see him back there again. I'd really like to see him be able to add to that legacy tho and in doing so qualify to be remembered as a true blues / rock / r&b / soul artist. Maybe next time. Until then, this a much better listen than Battle Studies.

After Battle Studies, I was unsure on what he would produce but this is simply amazing. Truly great.

Though I do like this new sound of John Mayer, I still yearn for the Room for Squares/Continuum days of old...This stuff won't hit the radio and be big hit-wise. I miss that Bigger than my Body feel about his music, wish he'd go back to that stuff. This is a little too folksy for me, but, that said, he is my fave artist so of course I will buy and listen to it. Shadow Days is great!

an instant favourite. i have listened to this 4 times in just on 2 days. With appearances by Graham Nash & David Crosby on the title track, John has come along way since his "sweetheart" days of Room For Squares & Heavier Things. In my opinion John came into his own at Continuum & it's good to see he hasn't sat back & punched out the same old same old. I love everything from inside wants out right through to this & it's good to see him grow as a respected songwriter & musician. Hard to pick a standout track on here & honestly this is the first Mayer album where i can't really find a bad track. There were a few for me on each of his previous releases but i can't fault this record. BIG FAN Love this album.

An album worth buying in its entirety, the kind of album you listen to from start to finish as an album. A musical story. Sometimes foot tapping, sometimes reflective, always beautiful, always John Mayer. Highly recommended!

I have been a fan of this talented musician since the very beginning and have had the pleasure of seeing his art live many times. Born and Raised raises the bar and see's John produce amazing music with more honesty through the lyrics then ever before the whole album is like a story book. If your a JM fan you have to buy this!! The wait has been worthwhile folks. This is without a doubt the best album that John Mayer has released, that might seem like a big claim, but one listen will justify it. His venture into the pseudo-country/folk territory has brought along a deeper feeling to all of his songs. The starting track 'Queen of California' starts the 'folk feeling' that is ever-present throughout the majority of the album, making you subject to the involuntary tapping of toes for the next 40 something minutes. 'Something like Olivia' brings back John Mayer's sound reminiscent of Continuum, but gives it a country twang that builds upon the sound. The standout track on the album would have to be 'A Face to Call Home', bringing a very familiar John Mayer Ballad to the album, filled with slow acoutsic build-ups and a guitar delay solo that gives the song an almost transcendent feeling. My picks on the album are 'Love is a Verb' and 'Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey'. This is a must buy for any John Mayer fan and is definitley one of the best music releases so far this year. Cheers, SC

I love the new direction John has headed towards, its easy listening unlike other music these days :( Love the beautiful sounds he gets out of the harmonica to create some beautiful melodies! And every song is catchy, Love Is a Verb is amazing and is the best form of poetry I've heard in a long time, love the pop/blues in Something like Olivia. Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 is hauntingly beautiful and Fool to Love You ahhh, i love it!

This album Is worth the wait! I love the new direction that John Mayer has taken. I love the laid back and stripped down sound. Love it

Everything John has said this album will be he has told the truth, it's Melow honest and shows he is a true song writer and performer. Walt grace submarine test 1967 is my favorite song on the album I think it really shows John imagination and how deep he digs when writing a song with his connection to a made up character.

If music is art, this is John's masterpiece. A stunning collection of candid and honest songs, lyrics of life and beautiful melodies. He just perfects all genre's and styles he tries and Born and Raised is no exception. My favourites are: If I ever get around to living, Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 and Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey. Enjoy this album.. I know I am.. (review by Jessica Knuckey)

Really looked forward to this album, and by god was it worth the wait. Age of Worry is very unlike his typical style which I think is what makes it so brilliant. Fiona and I just finished a higher exam today and its so relevant to our day. Has a slightly Scottish/country/Mumford and sons feel to it. IT'S JUST BLOODY BRILLIANT!

I've loved listening to this man's voice for years but I can't shake the feeling that he's done this album for the American country lovers that are so in fashion at the moment. Nevertheless still great album and a fantastic voice to relax with

Amazing Beautiful lyrics and melodies very understated but utterly Brilliant

As ever, JM delivers a great album. Sounds a little different but still somehow classic Mayer.

Some amazing aspects to this album, and yet some truly disappointing aspects. Mayer's voice is truly amazing throughout the album, but where are the blazing guitar solos? His unique brand of jazzy blues? It's so frustrating to hear hints of his amazingness just tucked underneath slide guitar and harmonica. I just can't help but feel he's tried to hard to make it country and just slapped on a few filters and some slide guitar.

One of the best albums I have ever heard-and I only downloaded yesterday! Simply wonderful.

The album starts of slowly, not what you'd expect, but yet, you listen to the songs a few times and it get gets better by each listen, if your a John Mayer fan, worth every penny!

John Mayer, what can I say? He will always be one of favourite artists of all time and sings some of my favourite songs of all times.This album does nothing to change my mind.Nothing.

Deep, meaningful and varied.

For me this is a nice relaxing album. Different to John's usual stuff and very laid back. I wouldn't say at all 'Country'. I listen to lots of modern Country and this isn't it. Some people think because a Pedal Steel is involved it has to be Country music. Not as good as Continuum which he'll probably never beat but still a good album.

What an excellent album, for it whilst browsing iTunes! It's one of the best albums I've bought, if you don't like his music then you must be deaf!

As a massive John Mayer fan even bought a Mayer strat all I can say is brilliant I thought I wouldn't like this album as much as continuum but I found myself constantly singing songs from it when I'm out and about, thought provoking and inspirational lyrics Not one bad track born and raised a classic and I love something like Olivia John I would like to see you make another blues album please.

Completely amazing! Definitely one of his best albums yet! I'm hopelessly in-love with him so maybe I'm bias but oh well! Everyone should buy it, it's perfect!

John Mayer never fails. Incredible honest record!

I fell in love and mended a broken heart to Continuum. I feel this album isn't as magical but maybe it's a grower. I prefer the less country songs, and haven't found lyrics to match Stop this Train or slow dancing in a burning room.

'Born and Raised' is an album of great understated beauty. Despite my reservations to this new laid back country-folk direction, JM has seamlessly changed genres, without losing his songwriters craft. It's not an immediate first time listen, but becomes a more rewarding grower. The guitar is a little more reserved than on previous albums ( I miss the incendiary blues licks of 'Continuum', or the more up-tempo polished rock of 'Battle Studies' ) and yes, there are times that John seems to want to re-invent himself as Neil Young, but I'm more than willing to forgive this, balanced against an album of such exquisite songs.

I would say I'm a fairly decent John Mayer fan. Got all his albums, but don't really follow his life, know much about him and never been a gig - which is something I want to change. So I didn't really know much about this album and just bought it because it's him. Initially, I did listen to the previews and I was slightly surprised to hear the new style he'd taken and nearly thought to wait. But, I fought through the doubt and remembered how good he is and I have never been so glad I did. I'm not a huge country fan(and I know it's not solely country but there are some very obvious country influences), being from England it's not a huge genre over here, but John Mayer has moulded his genius with different styles to create such an addictive album. His way with composition(i'm presuming he writes his music) and lyrices(I hope he does them too :P ) are his best yet. Just pure listening pleasure and I'd have to say my favoruite is Walt Grace's Submarine Test and Love is a Verb :) :) :)

Having been a little concerned to hear JM was making a country styled album (as it's not my thing) WOW was I wrong. This album is without an doubt in my top 10 albums of all time (and I've been around 42 years on this plant!).

When I first heard about the new album I was so excited (This is from a guy who has all his stuff). And even though I was skeptical due to Battle Studies and also the thought that it would be quite country orientated, this album has been on repeat on my phone and my itunes. Probably one of his best albums, second only to continuum I sincerely recommend buy this album Insta-Classic Peace :) Josh

I'm really impressed with this album. Really didnt take to battle studies it wasn't the John I knew! (haha not really) But still I was apprehensive about this... Bought it day of release and not stopped listening since!! It's a must buy!!!!

Simply breathtaking. As many people have said there are no fillers on this album as there was with continuum. For me the best song on the album is Born and Raised as it is a perfect illustration of how I am feeling. I recommend buying this album, you will not be disappointed! If you haven't already got John Mayer's Where the Light Is album I would also recommend getting that album as it is simply perfection.

Another excellent offering from the talented John Mayer. Once again he steps to the side and offers you a different sound with Born and Raised, showing that he can evolve over time and is capable of becoming the complete artist. Get a cold beer out and stretch back on the deck or porch this summer. You couldn't get a better soundtrack to listen to.

This album is breathtaking! This is a new road John's going down with the folk/country feel but the lyrics are just sublime! Very impressive, I think room for squares and continuum are better albums but it's a very good album! Must buy!

Ive always loved John Mayer ever since i first heard him 5 years ago. Despite criticism i enjoyed Battle Studies a lot however, this goes far beyond what Battle Studies was. There are no fill in songs as with other artists these days and i can comfortably listen to the album all the way through. Fingers crossed he gets well so he can tour England soon! Favourite song: Walt Grace's Submarine Test. Awesome!

This is a step up from Battle Studies and on level with Continuum. What a brilliant album.

A strong album with no surprises, either good or bad.

Must admit to not being a huge fan of this guy up until now but this album has changed all that. Superb - quite simply the best album I've heard in a long long time, bought it a couple of days ago and can't stop playing it, recommend you try it for yourself.

This album is John at his best! The atmosphere in songs like "age of worry" and "If I ever get around to living" is beautiful. The wait was defiantly worth it! If you haven't already buy this album! I lost my voice the week before this came out. What a stroke of luck! My new lower register means I can sing along with every word. Fabulous lyrics. I haven't listened to anything else since it was released. Queen of California makes me want to just set off and drive in the sun (How sexy is that last 'Get down'?) Walt Grace is really moving and Love is a Verb is a favourite. This album seems lyrically more relevant to me somehow. Get well soon John and come to the UK please!

Sure this isn't the usual blues/rock John Mayer but I respect this album. It's more country/folk which is better for storytelling. John Mayer is maturing and a lot of these songs are inspiring. Amazing lyrics and melodies. If you want more upbeat stuff listen to his old album. John Mayer will most likely take on a new genre in his next album depending on where his life is but for now I'm happy with this album and glad it's #1.

Best £7.99 I've ever spent!

Been a fan of John's since the very beginning and his latest album shows that he has yet even more to give and more diversity in his music!

Highly anticipated. Didn't disappoint. This album is deep and emotional. John needed the time out to get himself back together and that he has! A summer album. Sure to get to number 1 :)

I really never buy entire albums, but for this and Mayer's other albums I've made an exception. Born and Raised is a great summer album the melodies are sweet and harmonic and the lyrics are meaningful. I would recommend this album to anyone who can appreciate good music and exceptional talent, this album demonstrates both. Well done John, another fantastic album!

Well... All I can say is if you don't get this album or say good things about it you're absolutely tone deaf, he has excelled himself even more that I thought was possible 5 stars :)

I honestly don't say this lightly, as Contiuum was a source of pure joy to me for years, but this is in a league of its own. It's absolutely incredible, from start to finish. Not one filler. I think it's his best yet, a real mature step forward esp in the depth and soul of his lyrics. I think it's the most vulnerable, authentic John Mayer we've seen yet. There's been a lot of comment on here about this being a 'country' album. That makes me think deep south, Dolly Parton. This album is NOTHING like that stuff. It's like a perfect mix between modern blues and folk, with the odd country feel here and there. However, you can't shy away from that it's definitely still Mr. Mayer at his best, in a well written, well thought out, deep and soul filled album. He's clearly been working a lot on his character through these songs. Queen of California, Born and raised, Love is a verb and A face to call home are personal faves. He seems to give everything he has, to every song. And I have no problem at all paying for that commitment. I recommend sticking your headphones in, and going for a sunset walk when you listen to it first time. Some seriously chilled, thought provoking tunes. Unbelievable achievement.
